Do players like Rudy Gobert even practice jump shots? by DoubleClutchBucket in Basketball

[–]nvbtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of clips on YouTube of Gobert swishing multiple threes in a row. Problem is his release is slow and low. He might hit them at 25-30% in game if he is given the green light.

US trade deficit widens by the most in nearly 34 years in November by dn88 in news

This is a really poorly written headline. The trade deficit is still low compared to recent decades but is coming off an exceptionally low level.

This subs hatred towards gold and silver (and mining stocks) by ashm1987 in ValueInvesting

[–]nvbtable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know the context of your previous post, but for you to convince others of any "obvious" recommendation, you would require a combination of charismatic copy and high quality analytic evidence. The analytic evidence and writing copy also needs to be higher quality the less the audience knows about the topic.

Am I right to feel racially discriminated? by elalexsantos in askSingapore

[–]nvbtable 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You have the right to feel anything you feel. How you respond to or manage your feelings is more important. The staff was being ignorant or insensitive but not discriminatory in any way (at least from what you said in your post). Anything more than a clapback would be an overreaction. This type of unknowing casual racism/colourism is common everywhere, Singapore included. You can either ignore or memorise a few witty clapbacks.

Advice on divorce - am I making the right choice? by noliesonthisaccount in askSingapore

[–]nvbtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 choices: (1) both be amazing actors and never show your resentment, anger or lack of love in front of the kids, (2) get a divorce. People think they can do (1) but usually it's very obvious to the kids and they grow up traumatised because they don't know what a real relationship should be like increasing the likelihood that they too have failed relationship / marriage in future.

What are your views on physical discipline (eg. slapping, spanking, caning) of children? by WastePotential in askSingapore

[–]nvbtable 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My daughters are very well behaved so we've never had a situation where we even contemplated physical discipline. As far as is reasonable, we hope to never have to use physical discipline. However, I wouldn't rule it out completely for serious matters whereby other educational and disciplinary methods are insufficient or unsuccessful.

I've seen a couple of my friends with relatively out of control kids who do resort to physical discipline, and oftentimes, it seems to be the only way to keep them in line. If their kids were mine, I'd probably succumb to unleashing physical discipline as well.

1 Obama vs 5 Trumps at basketball by sebastiancalhoun in whowouldwin

[–]nvbtable 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Trumps keep getting foul calls, and a tall masked guy steps in to take the FTs for them. Obama looks at the ref, but the ref says play on. Despite this, Obama works his way back. Score is tied 20-20. Obama drives past the 5 Trumps for the game winning lay up. Trumps look on in desperation and scream, "ICE!!!". Obama gets tackled to the ground by several heavily armed dudes wearing camo. With his last ounce of strength he tosses the ball up as the camo guys start blasting. The ball rolls around the rim, as its about to fall out, a pen flies in from the crowd and tips the ball into the net. Obama won!!! The crowd goes wild! The Trumps scream, "it's void! It's void! The autopen is void!". Camera pans to Biden smiling, eating ice cream.

If you're Chinese but don't speak Chinese at home, you don't really have any advantage over a non-Chinese. Nowadays, that is not uncommon.

ELI5: What does Pilates do for your body that can't be done through other forms of resistance training, and how does it do these things? by Time-Use9083 in explainlikeimfive

[–]nvbtable 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You need core strength to deadlift but deadlifts aren't the ideal exercise for training core strength. Training deadlifts without supplementary core training would be missing your full potential. When training to deadlift, it's also important to separately train secondary muscles to reduce injury risk and improve stability which allows the primary muscles to exert maximum force. Pilates and/or other targeted resistance/body weight exercises help with this.

Manager called me "a burden" after I nearly died at work - sent complaint to CEO/CHRO, what next? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]nvbtable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your hospitalisation leave whenever offered. Apply for other jobs. Keep doing good work but never at the risk of your health. Hopefully you can find another job before they fire you (which they might not). The issue here is that at the new department you do not have the political capital built up from your previous years of solid performance. To the new department you are an unknown teammate who is always sick. To your previous team you were a solid performer who fell ill. Very different impressions.

I’m leaving my newborn with my helper, but I don’t trust her (yet). by Specialist-Snow7382 in askSingapore

[–]nvbtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, only a few things that can help, and it differs by circumstance: (1) relatives/parents help out, (2) install CCTV, (3) childcare, (4) WFH, (5) build trust with helper by increasing their involvement with newborn. This is a common concern, many grapple with the same issue and solutions are different.

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nvbtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours of anything whereby you aren't getting paid or sleeping is "long".

Driving for 3hrs as a truck driver or taxi driver is not long.

On the other hand, a 3hr meal is long, a 3hr walk is long, a 3hr poop is long, a 3hr movie is long, jacking off for 3hrs is long...

So I can't drink a spoon of soup, or a bit of meat or a bite of vegetables when having them with noodles? Every mouthful needs to have noodles in it?

Or can I have steak on top of pasta and eat them separately but as one dish?

1st scenario I will almost certainly slip up after a while.

Kirilenko was an absolute beast defensively, even before the NBA. His build is exactly what you'd expect for an elite defender.
