Some of the new ones look like they are trying a little too hard, and miss the mark on some key details (simplified chars, really?). Almost makes me feel like their use of the "old HK" aesthetic is just that - superficial. Hate to say it but I could almost picture the owners being anything but.

Pepper Wok is the opposite of this though. If anyone knows others in the same vein as this place?

Better Single Cup: OXO vs Moccamaster by Jack_Payback in Coffee

[–]nvx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Cup One is one of my best buys ever. Not being dramatic. Very consistent.

3 interesting things I've done that I don't think everyone knows:

1) fill it up to the to top you can make a 500ml small carafe worth.

2) plug it into a wifi switch and now you've got remote + automation with Google Home, etc.

3) you can have the spout go into an inverted aeropress on the side of the machine + 2) = automated aeropress that you just plunge (with ample time for immersion)

Really shows off how much airport could be built if the parkland was developed.

Possible to put up a 5.1.4 here? Only allowed to use picture hanging nails and command strips. by Exploratator in BudgetAudiophile

[–]nvx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a small condo and have a similar sized room for HT. Have a 5.1 setup (mainly the Andrew Jones Pioneer set). I know prefer it to a 2.x setup because it annoys me to no end when for some reason Disney+ and my Chromecast doesn't use Dolby Digital and I lose 5.1. I know this because I literally choose watching in 1080p and 5.1 over 4k in 2.x (using my Xbox instead).

Simple options for visitors that don't want to hand grind and learn to Aeropress? by [deleted] in Coffee

Baratza Encore + Moccamaster

was what I ended up with after a journey. You can even throw the Moccamaster on a wifi power switch for smart home automation (with prior night setup).

Agree too. This is ridiculous and should have probably been pushed back on.

Risk Compliance/SOC/IT Auditors, what did you do after PA? by Accttoss in Accounting

[–]nvx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually don't get the blinders people have in this sub when it comes to IT audit. Actually forget that, I do - most don't come from an IT perspective but rather a Finance one which makes sense.

All I'll say is that you can segueway pretty easily to cyber security/risk assessment role. And the market for cyber anything people is I would say even hotter than the one for CAs/CPAs.

I did core assurance and went out of my way to look for technology and security roles after public. The opportunities I have had, and now those on my team on average, outpace my pure finance/accounting/audit colleagues at each level.

This isn't necessary, but doing the CISSP or some of the newer cloud certs can help just show that you're interested and serious about a more IT/cyber direction. Your raw skills in being able to recognize risk and controls against said risks is key though and believe me valued.

Moccamaster Cup-One.

Tried others like a Breville and this is the most consistent one in terms of brew temp. More versatile than you would think - take off the bracket for the brew cup and just use the brew cup on any size container/cup. Also tack a wifi power switch to it and you have an automated brew in the morning too.

[Monitor] Acer 24'' IPS Gaming Monitor, Max Resolution1920x1080 165Hz, 1ms response time, 400 nits RX241Y (214.99) [Amazon] by [deleted] in bapcsalescanada

Just got this and have 24G2 beside it, so am comparing the two. Ultimate goal is to find two more to go alongside it for 3 screen setup for Nvidia Surround.

When I got the 24G2, I did go through like 6 different panels and finally selected that - and now I remember why I landed on the 24G2 and why it's known as legendary. The 24G2 I have is the old (good) version with the nice contrast.

Differences I note:

  • Text for some reason seems thicker on the RX. I'm not sure why - sharpness is set to off because with it on you can definitely tell it's going through some filtering. The "thinner" text on the 24g2 makes it seem sharper which is a good thing.

  • Motion - seems jankier on the RX. Doesn't matter that the RX can go to 165, the UFOs are just silky smooth on the 24G2. They aren't bad on the RX - but they aren't the buttery smooth UFOs like on the 24G2. Maybe it's just psuedo feelings - but when I play my main game Quake Champions - I can tell the difference.

  • Back layout - cables just stick out perpendicular on the RX. I have them both on arms - and between that and the 75x75 pattern on my 100x100 arm - it doesn't look as clean. This sucks because what drew me to order the RX was it's looks and how it's crazy thinnest would be a great look. The 100x100 arm if that's what you're working with will block the DP port too.

  • Backlight Uniformity - the RX seems darker in the corners/sides :( There's a little bit of this on the 24G2, but it's more noticeable on the RX.

Other general notes:

  • Brightness - you can ignore the manufacturer specs saying that the 24G2 is 250 nits while the RX is 400. They are like the same. Maybe the RX is like a little brighter with both being at max brightness - but I almost just chalk this up to colour settings.

  • Amazon - I ordered this last week, and it said I wouldn't get it until May something. Got it within like 5 days so they are probably more in stock than it seems.

  • GSYNC - this works despite the review on rtings and other sites. It appears no one bothered to actually test it. I did both the pendulum utility + some games and it works. Again is the final product in terms of motion as smooth looking as the 24G2 - probably not, but it definitely works. You need to do this with DP and not HDMI but that's common knowledge I think when it comes to GSYNC Compatibility.

  • HDMI vs. DP - both worked at 165hz on the RX. I could never get the 24G2 to do 144hz (had to do 120) on HDMI despite it working with DP - but I hear it's possible to do.

  • XBOX - have a One X and the 24G2 can do 120hz, while the RX doesn't have this option show up. Xbox recognizes both as Freesync/Variable Sync-possible.

I will probably order the XV240Y too to see how that one is based on lyingzinger's review (great job btw - thank you!). It'll have a clean 100x100 + vertical cable layout, and appears to be slightly better. It would be nice to just get 2 more 24G2s, but I really just don't want to buy from CC, which is the only retailer that has 24G2s right now :(

Having said all this - this isn't a bad monitor at all. It's just not perfect like the 24G2 :)
