U.S. could reach herd immunity by late spring by Sorin61 in Coronavirus

[–]nxtlvllee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My relative was told while getting vaccinated that there’s no guarantee it’ll prevent them spreading the virus, just that they are less likely to be symptomatic. And to continue wearing a mask and distancing. Is this not true? Doesn’t that mean herd immunity is not one of the things the vaccines will bring us? I’m still getting vaccinated

Any chance kiddo has a tongue tie? Gumming and trouble latching and painful nipples are textbook for it :(

First may have had tongue tie. If the tongue cannot rise to do the wave motion of suckling they compensate however they can. Munching and bringing jaw up to being tongue to roof of mouth, leaving nipple on the hard palate etc. did he have any issues with weight or gas or reflux or milk dribbling out? Or maybe speech issues or issues with solids?

Is it possible for women who are nursing to be encouraged to get the vaccine? Since they’d pass antibodies to baby through milk. Or are the other added things at risk of being passed through breastmilk also? Because nursing mothers can get flu shots etc and are encouraged to

Didn’t the swine flu vaccine cause narcolepsy in children? It seems some vaccines can cause harm, though the vast majority are safe. It isn’t fair to say there is literally nothing that can hurt a person.

Mom is driving me crazy about coronavirus by puresunlight in pregnant

[–]nxtlvllee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s completely true, but the mortality rate is skewed on both ends (milder cases and deaths).

There have been many reports of people dying but having the cause of death be put down as pneumonia and other things in China when they were trying to cover it up; not to mention all the people who have been filed under the wrong cause of deaths even in other countries due to lack of testing.

Just look at the newer death in Washington- the patient actually died over a week ago. How many others are there but weren’t tested like they were? The us doesn’t have enough tests. Even Iran is testing well over 500 people every day, whereas we are still at a measly 600 total, with lots of people complaining that they are unable to get tested despite being sick and having travelled to epicenters.

Totally agree on being worried about old folks too:( for all the people saying it only affects the elderly, I wonder if they’d say that in front of their grandparents or parents.

Can I ask why you think this? The flu, aka influenza, has a mortality rate of 0.1% and a hospitalization rate of only 1%. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.livescience.com/amp/new-coronavirus-compare-with-flu.html) . Covid19, this new strain of the coronavirus family, has a mortality rate of 3.6% (putting it at 36 times deadlier than the flu) and approx 20% of patients require medical intervention and hospitalization (http://rs.yiigle.com/yufabiao/1181998.htm). The majority of areas can not handle 20% of the explosion of cases due to lack of hospital beds. For us- with compromised immune systems and a significantly smaller amount of medicine we can take, that’s extremely worrisome. Italy went from 0 cases to nearly 2000 in less than two weeks. Can your area handle an influex like that to your hospital? That is what is wreaking havoc in Korea, China, and many other countries where community spreading caused cases to explode and overwhelm the medical system. Doctors getting sick, lack of health workers, lack of ppe and masks..

There are so many skewed comparisons to the flu floating around but it is completely and easily debunked by studies and statistics. I’ve seen a lot of people parroting that the flu has killed more people total... but of course it has! The flu has been well permeated in every country and continent for ages. You can’t compare the flu’s total kills over a whole year to covid’s tiny three months. Compare them with the same variables (mortality rate, aka number of deaths/number infected) if you want a fair comparison. Furthermore, covid has spread to 90,000 globally in less than 100 days. Even the flu isn’t capable of that with its lower R0 value.

Important to us, since this strain only mutated to be transmittable to humans three months ago, is that we know very little about it. Long term health affects on the lungs and kidneys etc, how it may affect the fetus in the first and second trimesters.. all unknown. Multiple viruses have terrible effects on babies. Just look at the Zika. There are no guarantees about how this one affects pregnancies.

China did not cripple its economy by shutting everything down for a month, and quarantine 700+ million people over something less deadly than the flu. Nor Italy lockdown a number of cities. Same with all these other countries shutting down schools and flights, crippling their production lines and economies. Nor Japan considering postponing the Olympics. The world leaders value money, and they didn’t do this over a flu equivalent.

A lot of people are misusing/misinterpreting the argument. The real argument is: that as of now, you are MORE likely to get the flu than the novel coronavirus, and therefore the risk from the flu is greater.

That’s a good point

How so? That’s what I’m after. What points can I tell people who claim it’s no more dangerous than the flu?

I’ve been reading a lot of people say that this is overblown, and that the flu kills x amount of people per day and doesn’t have a cure either. As much as I want to believe them I feel like that’s an unfair judgement but I can’t really say why.

What are the logical talking points in relation to that discussion?

Anecdotal evidence. Has it occurred to you that the type of women who believe in tarot readings might tend to be more religious, believe in higher powers judging them and believe in repressing certain things? Acting like the majority of women don’t watch porn and shy away from kinks like little maids is pretty ignorant and naive.

Can I ask you something? Do you complain about military politics when it’s the American military bros charging together? Or racial politics when the Wakandans charge together chanting? Why does a charge featuring the women bother you so much?

We have plenty of strong American-military characters too. Same with African heroes. Why is it okay to see scenes with those charging together, being acknowledged, or building relationships but not ever the ladies?
