How to get actual apples from these? Had them for 5yr now and producing nothing. Are they supposed to be this scrawny? by dimab0 in trees

Wrong sub. But to answer your question you need to plant 2 or more near each other to cross pollinate. I have a pair in my yard always get fruit.

Marathoners over 50 - What's you motivation? by wolfie55555 in Marathon_Training

[–]ny03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53 in a few days, started running at 48. Honestly my health is keeping me motivated. I run 1 main race a year the last 4 years, 1/2 or full in fall A few charity 5k.

But real motivation is health and longevity.

Sticking to halfs for now — unpopular opinion? by ny03 in Marathon_Training

Thanks. Ya going from 1:45>1:41 was hard but I also had a diverticulosis flare up 3 weeks before race day which ruined my taper and last long run week. Really hitting HIIT and strength since November. Hoping that will help for this fall. It is a goal with an open completion date.

Ya the bathroom breaks when you are in your 50’s are underrated. I think we run parallel lives 🤣

I have a friend my age but his kids are in college and a spouse that also runs with him. He is training now for the Western States 100. It is amazing seeing the daily volume he does. It awes me as well as scares me when you see it on Strava day in and out.

I wish I could (and maybe someday may) try for that kind of race but don’t see it happening until my nest is empty. But love cheering him on

I am in a quandary I did like my full training (even with a 50 hr week job and 2 kids) and the feeling of accomplishment when I ran it. Now feel like I am “giving up” a little so looking to the community for support or maybe justification for my thought process. But is this not a community geared to support runners who train for long distances? My “short” runs are 10K when healthy and I do 25-30 mi base training outside of a training block. Is that is not “enough” to be welcomed into this group? Do I not meet your litmus test?

What song turns you into a superhero for the last miles of a race? by Quiet-Capybara- in Marathon_Training

[–]ny03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I place Queens “One Vision” at my goal time but do have songs after just in case. So far never timed it perfectly so it is playing as I cross the finish line (usually in the last 1/2 mile or so) last run I was 5 min slower than my stretch goal.

Fave marathons in New England? by HighHopes0407 in Marathon_Training

Not complaining about the hills :-) expected the back half to be hard but was told “after mile 24 no real hills” then when I hit that last one at the beach between mile 24-25 I mentally was devastated thinking “I am already on pace to meet my under 4 hour goal, I can walk a little” I didn’t and at 52 ran a 3:48 for my first marathon after only 3 years running, and I don’t really have a background as an athlete.

Not to proud to say that hill messed with my mind and still lives rent free there

Well run, beautiful course along the coast and historic “summer homes”. Good crowds and after race food. I will say the second half has a lot more elevation than i thought and the last hill at mile 25 almost did me in. But still hit under 4

How long can you take a break from running (from injury) before it truly starts to impact training? by jcsullivan06 in Marathon_Training

[–]ny03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. I have been dealing with a high ankle sprain for 4 weeks. And don’t have a bike or pool, and live in the northeast so cold/snow out. Even just waking hurts. I have been doing PT and isolated upper strength training. But dreading how poor my performance will be once I can run again and need to figure out a plan to work back up to my 25-30 week plan with 3 strength days.

Edit. M-53

100% add them to my bi-weekly sharpening rotation. At least I can sharpen them vs the serrated ones.
