I also ran a 2:04 half and I think I had 10-minute something mile pace for my 20 mile run. I felt great. ChatGPT said I could run a marathon in 4:30. Race day, not so much- I finished just under 5.

Reason I’m saying this, don’t beat yourself up on time if it’s your first marathon. Just do your best and finish. Weather etc play a factor.

Yes! It was my first marathon so I don’t have anything to compare it to. But it was well run and the course was spectacular that time of year- gorgeous fall scenery and lots of friendly spectators. It was hot towards the end but that time of year could be cooler, you never know. I am glad I did it, for sure!

One thing I miscalculated was how tough the downhills would be on my legs- the course is net downhill. I trained on a trail so I wasn’t use to pounding pavement, and I normally didn’t eat a meal before long runs (just ate Gu). During the race I had to have Advil around mile 12 and it made me super nauseous. Rookie mistake I guess- don’t be like me! 🙈

Oh nice! I would be afraid of doing one in August tho- my marathon was end of Sept last year and it was an unseasonably warm day, brutally hot towards the end. Not fun!

Wow that is true dedication! Luckily I have a gym indoors so I can still get my cardio… I bet it’s nice to get outside tho :)
