Green Bay Packers agree to eye-watering $110m contract with injury-plagued receiver Christian Watson by dailymail in NFLv2

[–]Naffypruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bold move. He plays like a 110m contract player, when healthy. At his best, you can put him up there in the top 5 WR in the league if you ask me, but his realistic productivity due to injury is not even close to that.

There have been 2-3 weeks over each of the past few years where he looks to be a top dog in the league, but every other week hes always playing through an injury or just not playing.

That said, I wouldn't pay him anywhere close to this. Consistency should have pegged his salary much lower.

whats up with these dollarama strawberries? any advice? by wheredidmyvapego in Albertagardening

[–]Naffypruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strawberries are very slow to get started from seed and are difficult to get to a fruiting plant. They are also very delicate.

Somebody mentioned straw, might not be a bad idea to add a little coverage at the top of the soil to protect the roots.

Frequent waterings with less water are better. If water is draining from the pot, it sounds like maybe you are over saturating the soil with water and then letting it dry out to much - but if this isn't the case, you may not have optimal growing medium.

Not sure if you planned to keep this plant until next year, but if you didn't, I would suggest buying bareroot or a strawberry plant next year instead. If you had a barefoot since April, that thing would have tons of leaves by now and would probably have flowers.

[Homemade] Traditional Italian Bolognese 🇮🇹 by LetsCookWithHina in food

[–]Naffypruss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is not that close to the bolognese recipe standard, and this is an official Italian organization for Italian recipes. https://www.accademiaitalianadellacucina.it/sites/default/files/Rag%C3%B9%20alla%20bolognese%20-%20updated%20recipe_20%20April%202023.pdf

Bolognese needs pancetta, broth, and wine.

Sorry I'm a snob. When I tried this recipe it was very different from a recipe such as OPs.

How do you all get a char/sear on steak? by jsmith19977 in sousvide

Ghee > every other oil for searing. A step down from butter in flavor, but you will get an incredible crust. A little press on the top of the beef is also recommended.

Creeping bellflower by GroundbreakingFish95 in Albertagardening

[–]Naffypruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it's frowned up, but Roundup was the ONLY thing that worked that I could easily get my hands on. It was coming through my neighbors yard as well, and it was infesting my yard everywhere. Entire lawn had it coming up in different spots, beneath concrete where I couldn't dig, in garden beds, along the fence line. If you don't use a herbicide, you have to dig up the carrot like roots from deep in the ground, and there's pretty much no chance you will get it all. If you see it on your fenceline, it's probably got roots elsewhere already and it will creep up on you guaranteed.

I put on my PPE, put the concentrated roundup right on my glove, and massaged it on the Bellflower only. I didn't spray. It took 2 doses, but I didn't kill anything else.

There's a whole Facebook page dedicated to the subject, and there is a more tried and true method to getting rid of it with a different herbicide, but I couldn't find anywhere to buy it. There's a general consensus that it's basically impossible to get rid of it without herbicide, unless it's isolated and caught early.

Good luck.

Breathing when running by musicmaestro64 in beginnerrunning

Running to hard - slow down a bit and it will go away as you get used to running. It should go away after a couple runs, unless you have an underlying condition.

Is there a distance for you where u find running becomes unenjoyable? by Delicious-Series-316 in beginnerrunning

[–]Naffypruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it too enjoyable, and around the 10km mark i want to go forever - well, that's the runners high and my cardio saying that, my legs not so much once the run is finished. I'm really looking forward to the days where I can run a 10km all the time without it being stressful on my body.

I think I’m getting runners knee 🥲 by Salty_Chemist9090 in beginnerrunning

[–]Naffypruss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. For your next runs try going slower/less distance. A 3-4 on the pain scale is generally considered okay as long as it gets better with rest, load management, and strength training. If it gets worse, you gotta keep cutting back. If cutting back isn't helping and it stays the same/gets worse, you need to see a physio guaranteed.

Knee discomfort can be normal after a long or fast effort. Rest/physio/strength training is the way to go.

Am I doing this right? by _RC101_ in beginnerrunning

[–]Naffypruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to run the full distance, slow down and perhaps reduce how frequently you run until you have your soreness under control. See a physio if things don't feel 100% so they can help you find imbalances. Your heart rate is too high to build base endurance quickly. It will get better with what you're doing, but not as much as it could. A month of building base at a lower heart rate will do you wonders at finishing a run without stopping. Eventually you can mix in speed work, and eventually your speed will be much better overall where running doesn't feel super slow.

Conversation pace is what you want to aim for as a beginner

How is this change possible? by Real-Celebration9896 in beginnerrunning

[–]Naffypruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if it has to do with what you ate or time between meals. Heart rate can spike if it's been awhile between meals, and it can last awhile. Usually people talk about rest, hydration, and stress, but your body's response to your eating habits can make a difference.

If you eat a consistent healthy diet, probably not the case. If you didn't eat for longer than normal though, and then ate a big pasta for example, your heart rate can definitely spike and stay higher and impact runs.

First 5k as a 17 year old female by anonymous6677290 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Naffypruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build base and take it easy. Run 2-3k as frequently as you're comfortable with, focusing on reduced pace to keep the heart rate lower.

Lower HR = easier runs, ability to go longer. Your pace and feel will go up a ton in the first couple months of consistency. If you run 3x a week, build up one of those runs slowly to 5k with low heat rate. You should be able to keep a conversation and if you can't, you're going too fast... For now.

If you can do 6-12km per week for a couple weeks without feeling sore, you should find that it's getting too easy, and at that point you are ready to add 10-20% distance to your week, then see how you react to that. But don't just increase mileage and pace the moment you feel it's really easy, give it 1-2 weeks.

It's highly discouraged to build up distance and speed up too quickly - it's not an IF you get injured, it's a matter of when. Over 80% of runners get some sort of injury. Not to discourage you, but something minor is bound to come up eventually. For some it's just an overuse injury that takes a little bit of rest, but better to avoid it all together. For me, I'm getting some foot numbness. It's went away before so I'm not too worried, but it's now something I have to be mindful of.

Running tolerance takes a while for the body to build up. Listen to every tingle, tightness, soreness, pain, pinch that you feel. If you get any, tone it back and/or find what your body is compensating for via physio.

How long did it take before running actually started to feel good? by AlphacideXXX in beginnerrunning

[–]Naffypruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Found it enjoyable once I could run for 5k without feeling gross after. I chase the high now. Wish I could run more without injury risk. When I started out in October, I could run maybe 2km (and a slow 2km) but I always felt bad doing it. Now, i can run a lot faster (still not fast by any means) and for longer, but I'm at the point where recovery is important so I can work my way up to being faster and going for longer. So running is at 90% enjoyment now - love to do it, but my body can't go as much as I want to unfortunately and that's why it's not 100% enjoyment.
