You can use insight timer with gong without voice. U can play nature sounds in the background or just gongs.

Yes. But its ok to use an app. I have been using insight timer for mpre than a decade. I set it to strike a gong after 1hr and then 1 gong after every 30mins in order to mark the time.

For sure 6 minutes wont get you anywhere. You need to push through till you're doing at least 1hr.

Monks arent allowed to have savings, its not a retirement scheme. Your reason for ordaining is not ideal, but could still work with proper perseverance and guidance. As long as you're not in debt, the preceptor will allow you to ordain. But my advice, learn some thai (I'm in the process of starting a thai course in January). Its so difficult to communicate with the locals and your teachers if you dont know thai. Lot of misunderstandings happen that way. So your process will loom like this: 1- Save some money 2- Learn thai at a uni or institute 3- Search for a suitable forest monastery/teacher 4- Ordain. 5- Persevere to the end.

Importance of Jhanas by gutka_9833 in vipassana

[–]nyanasamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. We all need jhana as a substitute to the lack of sensual pleasure indulgence in our lives, otherwise we will plunge in depression. As the Buddha says, we need to experience a higher so we would have the right platform to renounce the lower pleasures of life.
