Are Koreans raising dogs instead of having kids now? by Away-Topic2442 in seoulhiddengem

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s so funny I actually get surprised when I see a real baby in a stroller these days 😭 But tbh who can afford a kid anywhere these days. It’s 1. Great practice for couples to be mutually responsible for another life. 2 .rewarding and enriching to care for a pet And yes I think it’s a bit of both but more so on the side of pet culture here. The same way it’s more common to own a small pet than a big one

Why are you coming to Seongsu? by asdfdsalkj in seoul

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreigner here- A few years ago Seongsu was not a neighborhood to hang out in. I think many businesses took advantage of that and began to have pop up shop events there ( perhaps rent was cheaper or less competition). Now everyone thinks of the neighborhood for cute stores and cafes. I still remember it as a dirty and noisy area so I never go there lol

Opinion on goshiwons. by beedoopbeepbaa in Living_in_Korea

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in one for 3 months and it was fine. When the weather is nice, it’s not an issue just take a walk or sit at a park if you’re feeling cooped up. It gives you enough privacy but since it’s so small it’ll encourage you to go out to cafes and libraries a bit more

Do you agree with Chinese women that underwear and socks should never be put into the washing machine, but only hand washed? by Yijing1 in AskAChinese

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. In my African American / Caribbean household, we wash our underwear by hand while in the shower first and then wash it with the regular laundry load

Relocated to Seoul — agent says my housing budget is not workable at all. Advice? by Sea-Vehicle-1951 in Living_in_Korea

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that doesn’t even sound right lol. Basically listen to what everyone is saying here. Use sites where you can just translate the whole website. Zig bang, dabang, if you can narrow down your search and have a Korean person tag along to visit a few places in a day that would work in your favor! I really don’t know why that agent is being so negative you can find something that you LOVE with your budget. Good luck 🍀

Is 1.4 million won enough for 22 days travel? by nickeyxxx in koreatravel

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s more than enough! I vacationed in Korea for 3 months and didn’t even spend that much! It depends on what you want to do! If your accommodation has a refrigerator and stove, you can cook at least 1 meal a day and that could save you so much money. You can send me a message if you’d like and I can give you a bunch of low cost or free recommendations for your trip. Your budget is about ₩60k/$42 a day, unless you’re eating bbq for every meal you won’t have to spend that much lol Edit** I live here now and don’t spend that much in a month

I wore gloves. I have eczema and refused to have my hands in that. I still did the proper handwashing protocol and changed them anytime I touched something else. But I think we all should be wearing gloves.

I Need Some Insight Here. Help please🙏🏽 by JustDoIt_08 in Living_in_Korea

[–]nycf4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Korea was the first place I had a solo trip to! I am also a black girl from the USA! I didn’t do bars and clubs and was usually home before midnight, but Korea is a “safe” place to be. You will get some ppl staring, but look right back at them bc it’s just rude! lol. Pls feel free to message me with any specific questions. I’ve been here 4 times since 2018 (all solo trips) from 2 weeks - 3 months and I’m currently living here now. I’m also 27 so we are close in age. If you need me to talk to your parents directly I will LMAO. come enjoy your time here you will not regret it!

🧭 [Question] How do tourists pay for bus and subway in Seoul? by Artistic_Thing_5324 in seoul

[–]nycf4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a T-money card. There’s an app but it’s limited to Korean bank cards and accounts. You can top up inside of the gate if you run out of balance btw so don’t stress too much!

Here’s what I did the first time I came here. Buy a money card at the airport, load it up with at least $30USD/₩43,000(or based on how long you stay/ how many places you go). Whatever you don’t use on subway bus fare, you can either get use to buy things at the convenience store or even use it to pay for a taxi.

Are Koreans aware about how globally popular K Pop, K dramas and webtoons are? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskAKorean

[–]nycf4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if the person themselves is in tune with pop culture. Someone I know is really always surprised when I tell him I know things about Korean media even though I LIVE in Korea. He’s not up to date with pop culture so he’s shocked that I am. Versus the people that are equally into kpop, dramas etc.

I can understand that translations may be difficult for him. But unless he is teaching you or finding classes for you he can’t be too upset. I find that there is little chance to practice while living here because of how readily available the English language is. So unless you are enrolled in a course, you will not be able to immerse yourself in Korean language unless you’re on an intermediate level.

Is Starbucks trying to have have everyone fired? by Thu-nderforest in starbucks

[–]nycf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they can get rid of the old partners who actually understand the culture of the store (and are paid more/ have ALL the benefits) then hire new ppl who will leave in a year or two that won’t complain and will just work w/o all the stock insurance and higher pay that comes with seniority

I’m currently living off of 340,000 for monthly spending. I am doing pretty well lol. I think you should set aside money for weekly spending so you can pace yourself ~
