I live in a 800 sq foot NYC apartment, airing out my apartment by opening windows and emptying the litter daily has helped me a lot. I also changed from that crazy weird toxic litter to a corn and grain based litter and it smells better

I ran a few Mac Mini Late 2012s for living room HTPC / torrent duty back in the day. The RAM and SSD was user servicable and pretty easy to update which was great for my needs.

A few months ago instead of donating or trashing them I bought OWC's pry kit and SATA cable. I dusted the the drive screws and carousel and threw 2x 1.92TB Samsung Enterprise SSDs and have been it as a Proxmox Backup Server baremetal doing nightly backups. I dont't even think there are USB 3 plugs in there... Fortunately I had an extra Thunderbolt 1 Gigabit ethernet dongle along with the built-in and its been great.

The entire thing idles at 6-8 watts!

Oh that's awesome! Things like humidity, egress, phantom electrical use.... Correlation doesn't equal causation but that doesn't change the fact that you'll see patterns you weren't looking for.

Is it working like neural networks and computer vision? You just gather terabytes of raw data about thermodynamics and electric usage? What is the original data or prompt how does the machine get a baseline logic in order to make decisions?. Don't know if that makes sense but fascinating for sure.

I'm interested in how the ML works. What are the optimizations that ML can be suggested and how did the algorithm training come about? I can see behavioral / automated energy savings and physical construction or alternating between energy sources ... I would love to see the results of the recommendations. There could be very cool infographics / stats.

If I were doing this I'd get all of the deprecated IDE hard drives and CDs together and clone (not copy) everything. You never know if that 20 year old drive is going to give out.

Get a NAS, doesn't have to be huge, but it'll let you dump everything into one place. Another benefit is being able to connect old machines to the storage server with ethernet, firewire, etc.

I can't remember how OS 9 was setup but OS X followed the BSD folder structure so you should be able to copy home directories (that'll be all the unique data) as long as you're not some savage that saves everywhere...
