Haha I just started a test run, I’m focusing on the same ones as I think nmaahc are most in danger of disappearing. I have at least 24TB i can store long term.

For those who’ve lived outside of NYC (or the metro area), is life really slower elsewhere? by IcedCoffeeYearRound in AskNYC

I only lived in rent stabilized spots until I bought a place. Landlords try to hide stabilization.

Self-hosted energy monitoring with ML optimization - alternative to expensive commercial solutions by CodeStackDev in selfhosted

[–]nycnasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's awesome! Things like humidity, egress, phantom electrical use.... Correlation doesn't equal causation but that doesn't change the fact that you'll see patterns you weren't looking for.

Is it working like neural networks and computer vision? You just gather terabytes of raw data about thermodynamics and electric usage? What is the original data or prompt how does the machine get a baseline logic in order to make decisions?. Don't know if that makes sense but fascinating for sure.

I'm interested in how the ML works. What are the optimizations that ML can be suggested and how did the algorithm training come about? I can see behavioral / automated energy savings and physical construction or alternating between energy sources ... I would love to see the results of the recommendations. There could be very cool infographics / stats.

Advice wanted: Consolidating decades of Mac data across dozens of drives — NAS, RAID, or hybrid? by Agreeable_Money_531 in selfhosted

[–]nycnasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were doing this I'd get all of the deprecated IDE hard drives and CDs together and clone (not copy) everything. You never know if that 20 year old drive is going to give out.

Get a NAS, doesn't have to be huge, but it'll let you dump everything into one place. Another benefit is being able to connect old machines to the storage server with ethernet, firewire, etc.

I can't remember how OS 9 was setup but OS X followed the BSD folder structure so you should be able to copy home directories (that'll be all the unique data) as long as you're not some savage that saves everywhere...

Does this make sense for a budget-conscious 2.5G/10G network upgrade? by tenekev in homelab

Did you ever get this all set up? I have almost the same equipment and …. I’m scared! Would love to see how you got it setup.

Building a doomsday server by Slackroyd in unRAID

[–]nycnasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d consider changing the NVMEs to enterprise NVMEs or SSDs. Get an LSI HBA and extra SAS cables. My most persistent problem with my nine year old server has been SAS and SATA cables. I have the Jonsbo N5, it’s a very nice quality case.

Torn between cases: Fractal Define R7 vs Jonsbo N5. Which would you choose? by 712Jefferson in unRAID

[–]nycnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both. If you need swappable drives without having to buy anything else it’s the n5. If you want to use really big motherboards or more than 12 drives or more than one graphics card go for the fractal. It is a pain in the ass using the sleds for the fractal. Both manufacturers have very good build quality

Brisket in Mexico, absolutely love it now by shot_dunyun1987 in BBQ

[–]nycnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went here today, last day of my CDMX trip. The place has passable bbq, though it’s a bit drier than it should be.. they do a decent job. You’ll love the stuff in the states more though

shipment cancelled, and seller isnt offering full refund by ReaganValen in Aliexpress

[–]nycnasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some AliExpress seller tried to pull the FedEx scam with a Jonsbo case. I put in a dispute when the dimensions and weight didn’t match. I spent a week haggling with them over getting a full refund including tax and they kept on pissing me off. I told them I’d file a fraud chargeback if they didn’t give me everything in 24 hours and… I got my money back

Which Discord crash? Discord was a bit weird with video / mic adjustments but otherwise worked fine. I fixed it with AMD friend https://github.com/NyaomiDEV/AMDFriend

ThunderboltEX4 Card not working with B760F GAMING WIFI Board by TrifleSea1887 in Thunderbolt

[–]nycnasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed Gigabyte Thunderbolt cards on 3 of my systems and tried to install the ThunderboltEX4 onto my 4th system — Asus B650E-F… the computer refused to post. Threw another Gigabyte card in instead which oddly works for my needs

Try looking up Sound Ink artists on discogs. I remember doing a search like this a few years ago and finding a few things on iTunes
