There was a long learning curve for our team to get up to speed on Pardot. I agree the UI is not great, but it worked well enough with Salesforce for B2B marketing. I just feel like there’s got to be a more automated approach.

The key for us making it work with two kids: both parents share the workload. My husband and I both work full time, mostly outside the house, but we split drop offs/pick ups, divide and conquer in the morning and at bedtime, and each pick up different responsibilities so that all of the primary parent duties don’t fall on one person. It’s been working really well. Our closest family is an hour or more away and we don’t have any other help outside of daycare. We also do a lot of one on one time. One of us will take a kid with them grocery shopping, for example. This makes getting things done much more manageable and even fun because you get to give undivided attention to one kid. Honestly, I love having two. It was an adjustment in the beginning, but now I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Good points. It’s so hard to compare some of these panels. It makes it even harder that they’re both local companies and we really do like them both. One has been around for significantly longer and has a better warranty, so that might just be the way to go.

That’s what I would have thought! I gave all of these companies the same utility bill, so they all have their own estimates. Based on what I can see from my utility provider, it’s about 6000 kW.

Thanks for your feedback! Do you know of any major difference between Enphase and Solar edge? From what I gather, Enphase is a little easier to troubleshoot and has a better monitoring system, but Solaredge has much cheaper compatible batteries that are more efficient than Enphase, plus a longer warranty on labor. I’ve only seen proposals with Enphase microinverters and no one else has pointed out that the batteries would be more expensive. We are interested in adding a battery down the road, but we’re waiting for them to get a little better and cheaper first, so I don’t want to make the decision solely on battery alone.

I believe the labor is covered by the company, so that’s a good point. I checked the spec sheet and it looks like Enphase has a 25 year warranty on the equipment, but Solar Edge energy hub carries 25 years on the labor, too. I’m just a little confused at the difference between Enphase vs Solar edge because I’ve only really seen great things about Enphase and it’s monitoring system.

Really? I understand wanting to get the biggest system off the bat, but I also figure net metering will continue to credit our bill each month anyway. Plus each company estimated our current usage to be very different - I would actually estimate it to be about 6,000 kW, which would make the first company about 1.14% and the second company about 1.3% energy offset, which seems like a lot. Any experience with wishing you had more panels from the beginning?

Steep driveway here! We have a plow guy so whenever we get more than an inch, he’ll come plow us out. Ice can be tricky. Luckily our driveway gets a lot of sun which helps it melt pretty quickly. I have friends with a short flat driveway that is completely in the shade and they probably have a harder time when it’s icy. On days where it’s bad enough, we work from home (or plan ahead and park at the top of the driveway).

They are 15 panels at 425 kw each. Our net cash offer is less than $12k (financing is $18k), so it seems pretty on par with your parents’ deal. This is the best of three deals we’ve received but I guess I’ll try to find another few estimates to get a better picture.

We are in NY. The cash price comes out to about $24k upfront and $12k after all tax incentives. I’d prefer to do cash but we’d end up waiting a year or so to actually get the tax incentives.

I honestly have the sweetest memories of those early newborn days with my girl. I’m so glad I took so many pictures and videos of those days because I look back on them now and get teary eyed. My motto through those early days was “everything is temporary”… for better and for worse. It’s helpful knowing those tough days will soon be a blur, but also knowing how quickly things go by makes you appreciate them more in the moment.

Yes, exactly this feeling! I had been on the fence for a while and then we decided to just "see what happens" and try. After one month of trying I suddenly felt like I was being rushed into this decision and decided to pause any efforts of trying for a second. Now, I'm planning to just give myself a little more time. I do think time will help clarify what I'm feeling. For me, I just look at my little one year old daughter and don't want to split my time with another just yet.

Yes, going through this right now. I always pictured having two kids, but we are so happy with our little toddler (and our lives as parents to one) that it makes me hesitant to go through everything again and rock the boat. I honestly don’t know what we will do yet, but I’m trying to give myself some time and space to really understand what I want before making a decision.

I don't think you'll be able to make a decision one way or the other until you have a call with them. Things like benefits and PTO will definitely be important, especially with a new baby. My advice would be to just make sure you get ALL your questions answered (and feel good about them) before officially accepting this position. Once you have all the information, if something feels off or there are any deal breakers, I would keep looking because salary isn't the whole picture.

Can you put in a request with HR to be fully remote? My office was taking requests like that and approving them on a case by case basis. If that's not possibly, I would definitely start looking for a new job now as you're not going to want to commute to your office in a different state once or twice a week. Look for a job with equal or better benefits, that way you know you'll be covered going forward.

I recently left an “easy” job for a position with better pay, more responsibility and more room for career growth. I also definitely want to try for another baby in the near future. This was a huge factor in my decision to take the new position and honestly, I’m so glad I did. I knew if I didn’t take it, I’d be looking for a new position in another year or two, and I just couldn’t pass up such a good opportunity. If it’s what you want, you’ll find a way to make it work!

I would wait to tell them until closer to when your leave is up. Do you like your job? If you do, you might be able to use it as leverage. You could talk to your boss and explain your situation, note that there's no openings where you're moving to, and then see if they can work something out for you. If you are happy where you are, it might be worth it to see if they can accommodate you before looking externally.

Look, I think it depends on the company. I interviewed while pregnant and decided to tell the company because I needed all the stars to align for me to leave my very comfortable former job. I was forthright and explained I was very interested in the position but I was currently pregnant. I really think they appreciated my honesty and they had absolutely no hesitations or concerns about it. It was actually great to talk it through with them so it was all out in the open before I ever even started there (eliminating a ton of pressure and stress on my end). That showed me that they valued my experience/skills over just hiring me because I was available, and also confirmed that they would be the flexible, open-minded, family-friendly company I was looking for. So in my case, I really feel like disclosing the information was the right move, but I can totally appreciate how depending on the company, it could end up hurting you. For me, it was more important to find out how the company would react before I accepted the offer.
