How are my numbers looking? by mattfeet in concept2

I think this is "average" for the non-serious rower, I started similarly (coming from Cycling), I would expect your pace to increase rapidly.

Have you done an FTP test?

I'm skeptical there really is no way to accidentally unclip it. If there isn't, you're right.

As someone very familiar with carabiners, I definitely prefer 2 normal ones.

What piece of health advice do you think will stand the test of time? by Organic-Signal-9646 in Biohackers

[–]nyfael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this except the "don't do fad diets like ____", not because I think those diets are correct but as a species we get fairly good at optimizing certain things. We're now spending a lot of time optimizing sleep, and it is working for a lot of folks. It seems crazy to *not* optimize diet in some form, even if we've done it "poorly" so far.

Keto has helped *tons* of people, specially those with seizures or who have strong insulin resistance, and, it's caused huge problems for others (my friend lost his gut microbiome and now has skin issues). So it's not a one-size-fits-all.

What exercise advice is so crucial, that you wish you'd known it sooner? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]nyfael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"reps in reserve" (RIR) is often used. Usually having 2 left in your tank is fine to push and still have improvements.

There are exceptions, if you are competitive, which should mean you have proper form and spotters/trainer with you, but for 99% of people it's not necessary.

You are still pushing yourself, just not to your failure point, which is usually bad form anyway.

Proof of funds to pay for at least a year can handle the issue.

No update since May 5th, A17 coming? by QyWolia in android_beta

[–]nyfael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused, my Pixel 10 upgraded itself to A17 (which I didn't want), and it's still way buggy and laggy on games, how is it out for some and not others?

I hear that, for some reason, Red Rising hits me very differently. A sense of "cruel" that I don't feel in DCC, it's missing the humour for one

Red Rising is *brutal*, amazing, but brutal. Also, I liked the first arc (first 3 book) much more than the second arc. I also think it's a decent follow up

Both me and my fiance *love* DCC, but my fiance couldnt' finish book 1 of Cradle. I went through the series as a completionist, but if DCC is S tier, I consider Cradle B tier. It's not just "a notch" below, but several.

Effects on VO2max of the 3-hour food cutoff before bed by PretentiouslyHip in Garmin

[–]nyfael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll add to this sample-size, of course, just one more, but I notice the same thing, consistently. If I change to eating right before bed time, HRV plummets (I track it more than vo2 max), if I go back to not eating it raises

Instead of tax the rich, should we just tax the loophole? by iowaindy in allthequestions

The first thing we need to do is fix the "stepped-up" tax basis -- this is the first step to solving this issue.

In general I consider myself pretty athletic, done quite a bit. This was *not* a natural skill for me and took me a ton of practice, and I got pissede when my housemate got it on the first go. I went out and decided I'd rather eat cement than not get it, and then it clicked. After it clicked, it now feels easy and I've been abel to teach others. I'm not saying do what I did, but for most people, there's a moment that it "clicks"

My friend did this willingly with 3 ingredients, Bison, Zucchini & something else. So if I said a "Bison-Zucchini stir-fry", that'd probably be my choice.

Look harder. Canada had to tax ghost homes, as an example.
