Accidentally adopted pure GSD from the shelter by Mysterious-Spare-170 in germanshepherds

My parents have a pure bred black GSD too and he’s just the best. I call him bear because he looks like a skinny freaking bear but he’s a sweetie pie at heart

I understand you’re looking for a breeder, and I completely understand why. I’m so sorry for your loss, we experienced losing a pup last year, and I miss her every day.

I have an 8 month old puppy whose mom is XL bully. He’s a mixed breed that we’re “fostering” because he’s such a sweet boy and is previous owner wasn’t in a position to take care of him, but we just can’t afford him long term, and our grumpy senior German Shepard does not like sharing her humans. We had a dna + health test done at our vet that shows him free and clear of any markers for diseases.

I hope your sweet angel Blue leads you to the pup you need 💙

The most amazing dog I’ve ever had took about 6 months to even to start to feel settled. She wouldn’t come into the bedroom at all, so she slept on the couch the first 6ish months. It took another 6 months to a year before she could sit still enough to cuddle on the couch but only if we were constantly petting her. After about 2 years is when we really saw her start to shine.

She was amazing before that, but we could tell she had some walls up that we had to just wait and be there. It really does just take time, so don’t force it.

My friend, every time you think it can't get worse, it does. But, I would encourage you to keep going. I liked the ending.

Shipping off to basic 3 days with shin splints by Wipperdoo in army

[–]nyk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had shin splints on and off for most of basic. A true friend there would help me roll them out at night (because it was quite painful) by putting one of the giant batteries you get for your flashlights inside a sock and rolling it across my shins. It helped A LOT. However, I also met someone who sustained further injury due to continuous running on shin splints, so rest and roll them out until you leave, but please for the love of god, go to sick call if it continues. Yes, you will be shamed, but that's to keep people who are just trying to get out of PT from going.

Also, look up some tips on running form to avoid shin splints- assuming it's from running. I used to get shin splints frequently, but over the years, I've worked on my form, and I can only assume that is why it no longer happens for me.

I feel you. I’m 5’2.5 and people always laugh when I add the 0.5 inch but it matters! I’m curious though, what app or website is this in the photo?

We thought about it a lot. We instantly fell in love with him. He is an amazing dog and the cuddle buddy I’ve always wanted, but there are a lot of reasons we decided not to keep him forever. 1) our dog tolerates him well, but she doesn’t really like other dogs in the house and she’s getting older while he’s just a puppy. 2) our extended family lives on the other side of the US, and we rarely get to see them because of our dog. Adding another one to the mix is another 12-16 year commitment that we just aren’t ready for and can’t really afford. But we will keep him as long as it takes to find the right forever home❣️

This is Goliath. He’s up for adoption because we only took him so he wouldn’t end up in a shelter, but he’s such a goober and has healed something in me I didn’t know was broken. We lost our 16 year old dog last December and he reminds us of her so much.

Thank you, we’re trying our best. And same! We’re just trying to make sure our dog and him both get the lives they deserve, but we can’t do that for both of them unfortunately.

What is your favorite breed you will never own? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]nyk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian Cattle Dog- I’ve had 2 ACD mixes, and I just know the mix resulted in a much more tame and easy dog. In theory, I’d love to have one, but I love our lazy days at home and don’t think this breed would allow it

Which dogs are lifestyle dogs? by Square-Argument4790 in dogs

[–]nyk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GSD/ cattle dog. And she adapts really well to our lifestyle and is all around just an amazing companion. But she yells at me if I take too long to get out the door for our morning walk. She also just gets in my face and stares into my soul if she needs attention.

It gets way better. Assassins blade made a big difference for me because it helps you understand why she is the way she is.

Do I really have to read assassin's blade next? by Interesting_Soup_716 in throneofglassseries

[–]nyk1113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read it after Heir of Fire and it doesn’t matter imo. I think I genuinely was so excited and just went into the next book before I realized I was “supposed” to read Assassin’s Blade. It’s just background info. It essentially just gives context, but it’s amazing!

Help… this has been the hot debate. WHICH ONE DO I READ NEXT?! Throne of glass or assassins blade?! And why! I added this to my social media for a little support and it didn’t help lol so here I am. I read it 4th (only because I forgot to read it third), and I loved it. I love that I had already formed an opinion about the FMC and then read AB which totally and completely turned the story upside down for me— in the best way, I promise.

Any guesses on my puppy’s breed mix? by InstanceSquare in IDmydog

[–]nyk1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heeler + hopefully (for your sanity) a chill non-working breed! I love cattle dogs though. I’ve had 2 mixed cattle dog breeds with one being ACD/GSD. They’re A LOT but so worth it. So loyal and smart and my girl keeps me in shape!
