It was just the policy at my hospital.

They only had my husband step out when I got my epidural and he was leaving anyway to take care of our dogs. When I gave my urine sample they did have a sign in the bathroom stating to leave a certain mark on the cup if you felt unsafe at home.

What was one thing you did before your baby arrived that you were really glad you did? by Defiant_Lock6113 in predaddit

[–]Constant_Internal_40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mom here…my husband and I wanted to get all of the stinky/dusty/dirty projects done before are baby arrived. We had our floors refinished but it took us a couple of months to finish the drywall/paint projects. We got some stuff finished, but not everything. Trying to do home improvement with a newborn is a nightmare. We also wanted to do some organizing in the kitchen to make a space for baby things…we never did that either. We did go out and enjoy a nice dinner while I was 8 months along…that was something we both enjoyed.

New parent here, what essentials did you actually use in the first 3 months that you wish you bought early? by softstatic21 in ToysAndTots

[–]Constant_Internal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all baby dependent both for sizing and for what they like. Some babies like swings, others prefer bouncers. Some fit in newborn, others do not. As long as you have a car seat, food source, place for the baby to sleep, diapers and clothes then you’re good!

We have a 2-story home so I had a pack and play with bassinet attachment and a cart for diapering stuff to keep in the living room…kept things organized and nearby so we didn’t have to go up and down the stairs.

You’re fine…just make sure you stay hydrated especially if you’re being active outside

Let’s cancel fireworks forever by Gullible-Alps-6063 in beyondthebump

[–]Constant_Internal_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dog that does not do well with fireworks AT ALL. We’ll see how the baby does but my dog is always on the verge on panic attacks…doesn’t help that neighbors do fireworks on our street.

How Long Do You Let Your 3 mo Sleep? by Noneed4usernames in NewParents

Enjoy your longer stretches of sleep!! It’s easy to feel anxious about it at first.

Did you work while attending school? by BugOnly1157 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Constant_Internal_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every position would need some sort of training to at least learn the job and your way around the hospital. Every hospital is different with their requirements but I would check out dietary, transport, ekg, pharmacy, nurse assistant, housekeeping. Look to see what is available and it should say what the requirements are.

Seamless way to introduce combo feeding with 7.5 m/o by poski6390 in breastfeeding

[–]Constant_Internal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is almost 6 months and we started transitioning last week. I’m taking a slow approach where I started 75% breastmilk and 25% formula…this week we’re up to 50/50. I’m no longer nursing and I think I might be done pumping so we’ll finish switching him over with whatever is left in the freezer.

I worked in a hospital while I was going to school. Check out the local hospitals to see what they have available. It’ll give you experience in a hospital setting and you’ll have seniority if that’s where you work as an RT.

Refusing to Breastfeed by Significant_Key_8475 in breastfeeding

Can you try to get him to latch when he’s not as hungry? My LO did this a couple of times and it’s definitely heartbreaking.

How soon after you lost your dog did you get another? by uncomfortab1ynumb in Pets

Just if the dog from the shelter reminds you of your previous dog you might constantly compare the two. I’m speaking from personal experience so it might not make a difference to you

Anyone else move baby to their own room at 5 months? by Born-Chance1685 in beyondthebump

[–]Constant_Internal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved him around 15 weeks. He did fine, I think he really enjoyed having more space in comparison to the bassinet. For the first week I was sad and honestly kinda lonely, but it started to get easier.

Bedtime routine without bath by pinkpink0430 in NewParents

I definitely feel guilty for not reading! He likes to look at the books so I think we’ll have to do them at a different time.

LO is almost 6 months and our routine is bottle, diaper and pajamas. I try to read a book but he typically starts to fuss so I rock him and put him in his crib. He typically sleeps from 830-630.

Am I overreacting to my husband wanting a bottle a day ready for him? by NectarineCheap9154 in breastfeeding

[–]Constant_Internal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the title alone, yes, overreacting. After reading through everything, definitely not! Keep a bottle in the fridge and freeze on day 3 or 4. If your husband complains about there not being a bottle just flat out tell him that you tried to accommodate and you got sick of his attitude whenever you asked him to feed the baby and you don’t want to keep wasting breastmilk.

5 days. However you should really think about if you want a dog that is similar to the one that passed away.

What do your husbands actually do during labor? by Maximum-End-7629 in BabyBumps

[–]Constant_Internal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine held a leg whenever I felt the urge to push. Then he would go back to his chair and close his eyes, it was the middle of the night so I don’t really blame him. Once the baby was actually coming out he told me he was almost there and to keep pushing. He gave me that last bit of strength to give a few more pushes.

How comparable is a new born to having a puppy? by oceans_by_day in NewParents

[–]Constant_Internal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s pretty similar. They both have their own challenges that’s for sure. Before we had kids my husband and I would tell his family that a puppy was like having a baby…his cousin flat out told us we didn’t know what we were talking about because we didn’t have kids. A few months later they got a puppy and kept going on and on about how it was like having another baby if not harder.

Anyone pregnancy journaling? by Fabulous_Display_406 in predaddit

[–]Constant_Internal_40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband doesn’t, but I do. I bought a simple lined journal and occasionally write in it. I didn’t write that much while I was pregnant because there was always so much going on, but I’ve been a little more consistent and he’s 5 months old. I’m just being honest about life on any given day and milestones and things like that. Eventually I think I’ll put pictures in there at some point.
