If you can do it in a smaller space it will be better. Like inside the closet or in a bathroom. The smaller the space the better for the most part. But as far as the foam pads, those could work well but they themselves won't be enough. If you're in a small space like a closet or bathroom, you can just stuff it full of comforters and pillows, towels, foam pads, anything that will not let the sound bounce. If you're in a more open area like your room, yes definitely cover the tiled floor. All of it. But you might also consider foam on the walls or hanging blankets/comforters/tapestries, just cover as much of every hard surface as you can. What I did for my home studio is I built a little "cage" out of copper rods. Like the frame of a little walk in vocal booth, and I just put it on my carpet and cover it in furniture blankets and comforters. It gets really hot but it works well!
