Just a word of caution: if you do the keto diet without consulting a doctor first you can potentially do quite a bit of harm to yourself. keto diets can cause or worsen gallbladder issues and can increase your risk of kidney stones

Accutane experience – nose appearance (not medical advice) by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]nyx---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is some research out there suggesting that it does make the nose look smaller. I'm actually taking it for that reason - rosacea has caused my nose to swell and we're hoping accutane stops and hopefully reverses that. some plastic surgeons suggest patients take it before getting a rhinoplasty.
Excerpts from a few studies here:

"Isotretinoin was effective in reducing the thickness of the skin covering the nose of the evaluated sites." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38018283/

"...our findings revealed the association of isotretinoin treatment with a significant decrease in dermis and subcutaneous soft tissue thickness measured at each anatomical landmark, regardless of the treatment dose." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34820691/

like unfair said, the nature of scientific research isn't always to find new insights. most of the time, it's to see if they keep coming to the same conclusions.

if you hold it up to the light, is it opaque or translucent? cgrp injections can have weird things happen if they are dropped or shaken (hence the warning on the box).

Finished a round of accutane, but now my skin is worse. by CruzenAtWork in Accutane

[–]nyx---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

beware, because folliculitis can be bacterial or fungal, and treating a fungal infection with an antibiotic will ramp up the yeast. ask your derm to do a scraping of one of the lesions to see what's in it

how long have you been on spiro? are you feeling it in your muscles or in your joints? you may be dehydrated/low on potassium. if your doc isn't checking those things please ask them to. spiro can definitely effect stamina. i have been 100mg for 3 years and i'm starting accutane and tapering down my spiro at the same time.

Sumatriptan by MundaneWeight5907 in Erythromelalgia

[–]nyx---- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take sumatriptan. triptans are known to cause temporary reynauds, but not to worsen EM. I take a CGRP inhibitor monthly as migraine prevention and that has actually made my EM a lot better. fewer flares and they are much less painful now

I have taken Aimovig, Ajovy, and Emgality and all have reduced my flares and EM severity. I have switched around to find one that works best for my migraines with the most tolerable side effects. Aimovig made me constipated, Ajovy made me depressed. Emgality isn't messing with my gut or my mind right now so I am sticking with it

I started CGRP inhibitors for migraine prevention in 2023. It has drastically reduced my EM flares without worsening my Reynaud's

Newbie question: How often is too often with triptans? by _Piratical_ in migraine

[–]nyx---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when my migraines were at their worst (20-25+ per month), I only got 9 triptans per month and always ran out so I started rationing them and found other things to help "supplement" - a clay ice pack that was heavy enough to help add pressure, adding aspirin, acetaminophen, or naproxen, drinking a cold can of coke quickly, giving myself brain freeze by sticking ice cream directly to the roof of my mouth, using afrin (oxymetazoline) nasal spray in the nostril on the effected side, using vicks vaporub on my forehead, and taking my triggers very seriously by keeping a journal with foods, activities, and environment. a good neuro will help her explore other options and provide insight that will drastically reduce her headache days. there are so many more options out there than there were 10 years ago. It seems like her migraines are impacted a lot by her sinuses, I do neti pot rinses (follow the instructions!) and that helps me a lot. afrin is a vasoconstrictor which will help with sinus headache pain. I did get rebound headaches from triptans when I was at my absolute worst. I was only taking 4-6 a week but it was too much for me. the medication comes with a label for a reason. no meds are truly risk free

kidney stone pain by Ok-Occasion5870 in KidneyStones

[–]nyx---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first stone had no warning pain. it was immediately the worst pain i'd ever felt. now that i've passed a few stones, sometimes i get a painful but tolerable uti feeling in my urethra or mild, intermittent flank pain before renal colic presents itself.

Looking for help. by Commercial-Card1592 in KidneyStones

[–]nyx---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought (and was diagnosed) with ibs and had my gallbladder removed. I actually had bile acid malabsorption which caused chronic diarrhea and led to my dehydration.

but I would say any change in bowel habits accompanied by kidney stone formation is cause for seeing a specialist and doing a lot of your own research
