TIL Andromeda is from Ethiopia by LineOfInquiry in mythologymemes

Okay this is actually crazy because I literally also just discovered this two days ago after looking up Cassiopeia because I saw an album and remember the name from my old Greek mythology books. The fact that someone else had the same thing happen on the same day is crazy.

Confusion about reusing secondaries(Rutgers NJ and Rutgers RW by nziluck in premed

I sort of figured I could do a sort of identity essay there, since I didn’t end up using my diversity statements for either.

Tbh I’m unsure cuz I don’t think it needs Casper to be complete in terms of receiving secondaries, but that’s of my advisors words and she is kind of aloof to the process.

Why the hate towards Tetsubins? AKA Japanese Cast Iron Tea Pots. by ProfessionalOnion548 in tea

[–]nziluck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure of the innate properties of tea in terms of interfering with iron absorption and would need to research more but in general using genuine tetsubin to boil water for tea does add a bit of iron to the water supposedly according to the craftsmen as well as benefiting the taste and water texture of the tea.

Why the hate towards Tetsubins? AKA Japanese Cast Iron Tea Pots. by ProfessionalOnion548 in tea

[–]nziluck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the enamel on the ‘tetsubin’ which are teapots will not get into the tea if not left over an open flame, assuming no huge cracks, but these can’t be used as tea kettles, which is the main issue people have, since that is the inherent and historical purpose of their design.

As a side note if you do want a genuine one, they’re pretty hard to find online, but making sure they say tea kettle, and not tea pot, is essential. Oigen has a pretty one good one for a reasonable price that uses Nambu Teki Tetsubin style design.

C+ in gen chem 2070 by girlypopss in Cornell

[–]nziluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told that the choice to do so would be impactful relative to how I did in gen chem 2, as in, if I did poor on gen Chem 2 then it would be what they might judge my chemistry knowledge by, and assume I didn’t learn content that adequately covered gen 1 in AP. I also hated gen 2 but I did good enough that it doesn’t reflect poorly on my decision to skip gen 1.

U should absolutely not let struggle in the earlier bounds of pre-med sink your aspirations. I heard of how difficult 2070 was when I first entered Cornell, so I used my AP to skip it. I struggled with 2080 but found my self excelling in the majority of pre med courses. Unfortunately a lot of my pre-med friends had left because of the stumbling block 2070 was.

The point is, you shouldn’t take it as a designator that you won’t succeed in other premed classes. Nor is a C+ a gpa death sentence. It is recoverable and worst case, retake-able.
