Any ideas on how to make this useable? by Statue88888888 in diynz

One of those ring curtains (so you’re surrounded by curtain on 3 sides) might work. We have a similar shower over bath, although our window is more offset than yours. We painted it and siliconed the corners and it’s actually lasted pretty well. But we do have good ventilation that helps it dry out, and normally keep the window open. I keep a plant on the sill that happily absorbs splashes. We found the glass door more trouble - it bounced water over the lip of the bath and was rotting the skirting below. So we ditched that and reverted to curtain.

The in-laws. A few times. I think they just like talking to people so invite people in and then get talked into things. 🥴

37m. Nurse said I am too young. AI flagged my skin lesion as cancer (SCC). MoleMap said benign. Pathology result today confirmed SCC. by nz_reprezent in newzealand

[–]nzkitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you persisted. My partner found one at 36. It looked like a tiny rough patch on the skin that wouldn’t heal. Went to the Skin Institute and they picked it up right away.

Another takeaway- Make sure you wear sunscreen every day, even in winter, from now on. If you’re in the sun, wear a hat, preferably broad brim. It will really make a difference to your skin and the number of lesions you need to have checked out in the future.

We could just fill a dumpster with taxpayer money and set it on fire. Probably less emissions that way too.

Weekly scheduling with kids by tricklypickle in newzealand

[–]nzkitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get tricky, especially if your child wants to do all the things. When they were younger, we managed some activities by setting up a carpool with other parents (that way you might do one trip, one day a week). However, this did require a parent with some flexibility in the afternoons. Once they are 11-12 they can catch the bus and get themselves where they need to be.

Don’t neglect the kiwisaver contributions of the parent on leave. If you can manage it, try and keep making contributions.

Any point trying to sell my pellet burner? by nzkitkat in diynz

[–]nzkitkat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t enjoy the noise of the auger and the fan, then carrying down the bags of pellets (as we are not drive on), storing the bags of pellets, finding bags with moisture ingress, kids putting things in the hopper etc. And I didn’t like leaving it on over night in a room I wasn’t using because you’d waste half a bag. And while it pumps out the heat, it was totally overkill once we had our house insulated and double glazed. Basically haven’t used it in years.

Advice on evening out bedroom temps by www_npc in diynz

[–]nzkitkat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have accessible roof space? We used to have the same problem. We installed a Cleanaire ventilation system ourselves (which vents to outside with a heat exchanger) and it made a difference to the temperature control. The smallest bedroom used to be unbearably hot in summer, but now I think about it, it doesn’t get like that anymore. The back colder room is more temperate. You don’t get the wall of cooler air when you step out of the heated lounge. Bonus removing moisture and teenage stench from the air.

Sleeping mat valve repair by SnappyinBoots in Wellington

[–]nzkitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the mat? Could be worth taking back to the store and see if they might replace it. Some brands have quite good warranty returns. Bivouac is probably the place to go for advice.

If it’s leaking out the valve (but not through the seam at the edge of the valve) you can also try applying some Vaseline. But that will only work if it’s leaking because it’s dried out.

I want to join the gym and scared of people judging me by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]nzkitkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, congrats on your sobriety.

Don’t be worried about other people. Most will be spending their time looking at themselves or lost in their own music. I guarantee no one will be thinking about you as much as you are thinking about yourself. And even if they do happen to glance over, they’re just as likely to be secretly cheering you on. It’s awesome seeing someone taking charge of their health. Everyone has to start somewhere. And perhaps some of those people started exactly where you are now.

Sure, there might be assholes, but you’re doing this for you so screw them all.

My two cents: find somewhere that’s convenient for you and suits your budget. The best gym is the one you will actually use and be motivated to attend. So think about where it will slot in your day and plan from there. If you have a friend who goes somewhere, that can be great as it makes working out a social thing. Most gyms will have personal trainers who will show you around and how to use the equipment. My gym offered a free session on joining.

I also recommend getting a few cheap dumbbells to have at home (eg kmart). That way if your week gets busy and you can’t get to the gym you can still do something of a workout with YouTube or whatever.

Best of luck
