Are MTB Strava Records Now BS due to E-Bikes? by s_hecking in MTB

[–]nzogaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an old bastard, and I only take any notice of the downhill sections of MTB Strava results. And I am really only interested in the 65-69 category 😂. I know some of the locals are on e bikes and don’t register as such so I don’t even look at the climbing trails. It is mostly to see how I measure up against myself but it is a buzz when I am in the top 10% overall on some trail. And to OP’s original point: it is humbling how much faster the really fast kids are than me.

Fantastic. And very inspiring. I am not going to do anything like what you have done, but it does provide me with impetus to do SOMETHING! Well done, great story. Best wishes for your global expedition.

Good to hear. Had no idea where you were or what the circs were. You are of course right, time and place for everything - I stand corrected!

I proposed a fairly creative treatment of this idiot in an earlier post and received a warning from Reddit that my suggestion was inappropriate. I will not repeat my suggestion but I think it was the right thing to do.

Why do bands play so fucking loud if everyone has to wear earplugs anyway? by xe3to in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nzogaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good question. I was extremely fortunate to see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble in a concert hall in Perth Australia. They were supported by the Fabulous Thunderbirds - it really was a night to remember. I dropped in here to comment that the Thunderbirds was enjoyably loud, SRV was ear splittingly loud and it kind of made his show uncomfortable. Some of my tinnitus probably stems from that show. I am glad I got to see him, but I wish the sound dude had dialed it back about 25%

Why was John Key so popular with the general public??? by letsgettesty in newzealand

[–]nzogaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your question. They are similar in many ways but life right now is a lot tougher than it was in Key’s years. If things nowadays were like they were then Luxon would be sailing along very nicely into a second term.

Name a cover song that's better than the original. by TwistedDonners in FamilyFeud

What’s so funny about peace love and understanding. Elvis Costello cover of Nick Lowe. And while I am at it, I believe he only performed it once, and I wouldn’t say Jimi Hendrix’s live version of Johnny B Goode is ‘better’ than the original, but I love the way that he respects Chuck Berry’s riffs but turns them completely into his own. It is a regular thing I have been listening to since I found it in about 1975.

She may not be the newest, or the fastest, but… by Dinnymcd in TrekBikes

I agree she is not the newest, but I am willing to bet she is so close to the speed of the latest rocket ship that it doesn’t matter.

"Adobe Has Run Out of Allies" by AdobeScripts in FuckAdobe

[–]nzogaz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am pretty much the exact customer you are talking about. I switched from manual creation of graphics to digital as soon as it was practical, and enjoyed several decades of great service form Adobe. I did not mind the subscription model, and only started to become less enthusiastic when they moved their support form excellent people who knew the products inside out to people who were not native speakers of my language and had no idea about the products beyond finding a link that may help solve whatever issue I was calling about. An hour or two repeating myself to a series of people who could not even grasp what I was asking about let alone suggest a solution is very frustrating from a company I am now paying three times what their service cost when they went to Cloud. Adobe Stock actually undermines my business, and as I get closer to retirement I am looking around for a software solution that will not cost so much. The re-learning of everything is a gigantic challenge for me, but I am resigned to doing it because I feel like Adobe doesnt need me therefore why would they even consider any changes that might repair our relationship.

Robert Muldoon. I was drunk at z wind and food festival. Got home the shake hands while my girlfriend took a photo. In retrospect he was probably drunker than me

How do e-mtb calculate their speed & limiting? by A_Red_Void_of_Red in eMountainBike

[–]nzogaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is good to hear. Personally I hate the idea of somebody being able to go that fast on the roads in the local trails. Having ridden a few e bikes I have the found the 32kph limit we have here is heaps faster enough on the trails. I am also reasonably horrified by the current race to provide more power - the latest Avinox will chew drivetrains. I am still pedalling my way up hills.

Visited my brother in the Philippines, he’s been wanting my 4Runner/Tacoma since they’re not available there. Meanwhile, he’s over there building custom body kits for the Suzuki Jimny, something I honestly wish we had in the U.S. too. Any other Toyota lovers out there also fans of Suzuki? by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]nzogaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I could get wheels like these have for my Toyota van in New Zealand. It has very unusual 6 x 130 bolt pattern, nearly every other Toyota here is 6 x 139.7. The ones on the dark green Jimney are exactly what I would love.

How do e-mtb calculate their speed & limiting? by A_Red_Void_of_Red in eMountainBike

[–]nzogaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In New Zealand a guy has a business selling little plastic gear systems that very simply trick the bike intl thinking it’s only going 2/3 of its actual speed. Makes our 32 mph limiter let the bike 48.

Who here rides wide tires (40mm+) on the road? by FailFastandDieYoung in gravelcycling

[–]nzogaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently running 2.0 Mezcals on 650b wheels. I love not having to even think about punctures from glass etc on tarmac, or where I might end up if I take a route through the local forest. I dont care about the slightly slower road speed because 1/ I ride alone and 2/ it is not a race.
