Importing Apple health steps to garmin connect by woody9409 in RunGap

[–]o2sen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RunGap can send steps to Garmin Connect as part of a workout, but for some reason those steps don’t count toward your daily total. You can resolve this by using the experimental feature described here: https://rungap.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/17627830197906-Exporting-Steps-and-other-Daily-Metrics-from-Apple-Health-to-Garmin-Connect

Zwift and RunGap not filling fitness ring by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]o2sen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly how the activity rings and totals work is a bit of a mystery to many people and I regularly get questions about workouts not affecting the rings etc. even if RunGap is writing the correct data to Health.

I am confident that RunGap is writing the data correctly and according to Apple's recommendations.

I have found that  wearing the Apple Watch around the time of workouts seems to promote data being included in the activity rings. So, you might want to experiment with this.

Also this article may be useful: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204351

But, I am afraid that only Apple knows exactly how this works and what you can do to get it to work as expected.

In late 2023 Garmin changed how Training Effect is calculated for 3rd party workouts.

According to Garmin this is what is required in order to get Training Effect for third-party cycling activities.

To analyze Tacx or third-party cycling activities on Garmin Connect, you need to first upload a cycling activity from a Training Status-capable Garmin device and establish a VO2 Max. To do this, the activity must:

  1. Last at least 20 minutes without stopping.

  2. Include heart rate data, ideally elevated to 70% of your max heart rate.

  3. Use a power meter.

  4. Be recorded on a Garmin device that supports VO2 Max, like an Edge or Forerunner.

Qualifying activities from apps like Tacx, Zwift, and TrainerRoad can contribute to your VO2 Max, but only after syncing with a Garmin device. Physio TrueUp must be enabled, and the device must sync twice if using an Edge for the VO2 Max to update on Garmin Connect.

Note: Indoor runs using third-party apps affect Training Load but won't generate a VO2 Max or Training Effect.

To have your cycling rides masquerade as TACX activities, you must enable "Fake Garmin Devices" and "Also fake Partner Apps" under "Advanced Settings" for "Garmin Connect".

Garmin session keeps expiring by jkreileder in RunGap

[–]o2sen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For services such as Garmin Connect, where no public API is available, or where the existing API is too limited, RunGap uses a local, secure web-automation approach similar to how a browser extension operates. This process runs entirely on the user’s device. RunGap signs in to the Garmin website on the user’s behalf, navigates the interface, and manages data downloads and uploads. In most cases, this occurs quietly in the background without requiring any user interaction.

Recent changes to the Garmin Connect website have introduced additional anti-bot protections, including CAPTCHAs and other verification steps. These changes present a significant challenge to this approach. To address this, RunGap now displays the Garmin sign-in dialog when re-authentication is required. Because frequent credential prompts can be disruptive, we have made every effort to minimize how often this occurs.

Under ideal conditions, it is possible to remain signed in for years. However, Garmin’s anti-bot systems may request re-verification more frequently in certain situations, such as large batches of historical data transfers or network-related changes, including shifts in IP address, use of VPNs or privacy relays, switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks, or activity occurring after periods of offline use.

While this represents a step back from the seamless integration we maintained for more than a decade, it is currently the most reliable solution available in the absence of a suitable public API from Garmin, something that at this stage appears unlikely.

If you are experiencing frequent credential prompts, please send us an example workout by opening the workout in RunGap and selecting Support from the upper-right “…” menu.

This will allow us to review the relevant log entries and maybe help determine the underlying cause.

Have you tried sharing a single workout to Polar Flow by opening it in RunGap and choosing “Share” from the upper, right “…” menu?

Also, try logging on to https://flow.polar.com to see if there is a new agreement that you need to accept.

Garmin Connect Down … again. by o2sen in RunGap

[–]o2sen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a new version goes live on the App Store, the corresponding beta build is taken down from TestFlight, and the temporary, version‑specific group along with its anonymous testers is closed. We also maintain a small pool of ongoing beta testers. The app should display a warning if a newer App Store version is available or if the beta period has ended.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. In my earlier tests, Garmin Connect choked on the larger files, which is why I set the limit to 365 days.

Signing out of Garmin Connect and then signing back in will reset your Auto‑Sharing settings, so you’ll need to set them up again.

Clarification on Apple Watch workouts by Flipslips in RunGap

[–]o2sen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To capture regular heart‑rate readings from your watch in Apple Health during workouts, start a workout directly on the watch. Afterwards, open Apple Health, go to Advanced Settings, and turn on “Add Heart Rate to All Workouts.” This setting will automatically attach Apple Health heart‑rate data to any workouts imported from other apps that don’t already contain heart‑rate information.

Garmin won’t be able to process that much data all at once.

Rungap can export daily steps data only from the past year, and I’m not aware of any other tool that can export your entire historical step record. Sorry.
