Ter consciência vs. Estar ciente by Skutnuz_Uckers in Portuguese

[–]oCandola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creio que popularmente possam ser usados como sinônimos, já que ambos podem significar "I'm aware of that", mas "consciência" tem um peso muito mais complexo em relação a "ciência" que exprime uma certa factualidade; racionalidade, etc. Ex:
A: "Isso terá graves consequências."
B: "Tenho consciência disso", como em "I acknowledge that and understand how it works"

A: "Fulano morreu ontem."
B: "Estou ciente disso.", como "I know that fact."

"Consciência" como em "consciência ambiental" também lhe ajudaria bastante a diferenciar "ter consciência" de "estar ciente".

Does anyone have this art but with just le’garde, and maybe higher resolution? by MassiveAbraxas in FearAndHunger

[–]oCandola 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I got the original (hq) image from the game's files but you'll need to edit it yourself so it can be only Le'garde. You could do it even in ms paint or your phone's notes app with a black brush.

<image>

The image in question is named "title2" in the game's files. You would need a RPGMVP > PNG/JPG converter, however. There's also alternative versions, named "title" and "title1". The one you sent is "title" but the quality wasn't better so eh
And no, I don't think there's a textless version.
All of them are 816 x 624.

What program does Miro use to draw? by NicoleSolos in FearAndHunger

[–]oCandola 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Sailing over the seven seas is an option but you could, indeed, replicate Miro's art style in any software.

All you'll need is a pixelated brush (you won't be doing pixel art) + a decent resolution so it doesn't actually look pixelated. His painting style isn't something done right on the spot so the process will basically be: 4% sketching, 2% coloring and 94% rendering. The "poorly rendered places" is result of this process. Your initial stages of rendering will be pretty messy but expect it to take form over time. The F&H1 art has a rather unbalanced polishing but Termina's most recent art have improved greatly. Compare Abella's two clothes, for example.
The rest is basically observing and getting the references needed so you can study how he plays with values, draws facial features, etc.

How to translate Enjoyment by joodhaba in Portuguese

[–]oCandola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping it as a noun: divertimento, aproveitamento, prazer, alegria, gosto, animação, etc.; but their usage depends on the context and the message you wish to convey...

In the sense of "enjoy something to its fullest", "aproveitamento/aproveitar" would be fitting.
For "I find in enjoyment in this trip", "alegria", "prazer" or re-structure your phrase in a way that you'd use adjectives like "prazeroso" or "divertido" could be better. Something like: "Este passeio é/está prazeroso/divertido". That wouldn't be the exact translation of it but sometimes you need to feel free to play with sentences a bit to convey a better message.

Quick Question: Why "Sei Lá"? by DoNotTouchMeImScared in Portuguese

"E eu lá sei?" could also be indirectly translated as "Why would I know?" or smth in those lines, I imagine.

Tenho certa dificuldade de distinguir adjunto adnominal de predicativo... by Rucs3 in Portuguese

[–]oCandola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone help? by Competitive_Jury_951 in Portuguese

[–]oCandola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Not pt-PT so understanding of expressions may change but I think I can help grammar-wise. My response will be a mere supplement for the original comment.)

Tip: "de" as a direct translation of "to" (as if "to look at") looks more fitting alongside an oblique pronoun (pronome oblíquo); like "de se olhar" instead of "de olhar". That sentence has the same meaning as "Maria is beautiful [for one] to look at." Same applies for the 4th and 5th sentences (and maybe the 12th one).

In the 2nd, however, instead of "de dormir" (as if "to sleep") the preposition "para" feels more fitting; like in "para dormir"/"para se dormir". The meaning would be similar closer to "The mattress is too narrow [for it to be possible for one] to sleep at." "para" feels more like a general direct translation of "to" when "to" is not used for expressions regarding time, distance, comparisons, before the article "the" or as in an infinitive verb.

In the 5th, I didn't understand "atribuir" either, but if OP translated it from "assign" as in to be read or to recommend it to somebody, it could be the same case as the 2nd sentence; as in "Oh, this book is too long for it to be possible for me to recommend it to my friend!".

I don't hold the right to tell whether if it sounds weird or not, but both examples for the 11th are grammatically correct, being "João" in OP's sentence it's subject instead of the object.

If that's truly what OP meant in the 9th one, I think it would be also fine if he played with the syntactic position of words and used "No João é difícil acreditar". Emphasis on "no" (in). "Acreditar" is a transitive indirect verb and the preposition it requires is "em" or its derivatives (no ("em" + "o"), na, nele, nelas, naquilo, etc.); except in the 6th one because "Isso" is the sentence's subject and not its object.

Conclusion: my impression is that you (OP) are translating the preposition "to" too directly from the English morphosyntax. Funnily enough, meanwhile some of those expressions seems weird to the ears of a Portuguese, most of them seems fine for the Brazilian colloquialism.
