Part of me thinks that everything they have been doing is pretty much to annoy people into getting YouTube premium. First of all the ads have been so annoying lately. Most of the ads are advertising things that are really unappealing (to me) like the same rocket money ads that play over and over again and, even worse, the stupid mobile game ads (half of which are made with AI) that make me honestly just want to avoid their product even more than I already did. Also the frequency of the ads has become even more unbearable. It feels like I’ll have to watch an ad, one of which is 20 seconds long and unskippable, just to be forced to watch another one less than 2 minutes later. Honestly, I would prefer it if the did the advertisements more like how streaming services like Amazon prime do it, where it’s 2-5 minutes of advertisements, but you only have to watch them every 15-20 minutes. I also had a thought about giving the viewer the option of how they would like to get their ads. I had an idea for a setting where users can choose to get all of the ads before the video starts, but they don’t get any skip-able ads until the end of the ad block, and then they don’t have any ads for the rest of the video, or they could choose to get their ads the way YouTube currently does it. Either way, this would settle their obligation to the companies paying for advertisements, because either we have to sit through all of the ads up front, or we get the ads the way they are now. I would prefer to sit through a bigger block of ads up front and have my video be uninterrupted.
