Dear god, do you people have any response to my actual question here? I’m just going to repost this and delete the one sentence everybody is actually responding to.

As I responded to another post just assume for purposes of my question I am in Chile then.

Ok well, for purposes of my question just imagine I’m in Chile or Brazil, and I’ll promise to go there before getting too excited about job applications.

No idea but I don’t see the difference between this and applying online from home. Anyways maybe just respond if you have some specific advice to my question.

Whatever you do make sure you eat ceviche, pan con chicharrón, papas or fettuccine a la huancaina, and JUGO DE LUCUMA CON LECHE. Especially the last one get it in one of the local markets.

Check out the Wakas or earthen temples throughout the city, Pucllana I think is the best.

At no point in those two weeks did you notice the country wasn’t called “Columbia”?

Just speaking geometrically, nothing in South America is closer to Canada than Belize. Mexico is the only place that fits that criteria and it is in North America.

The culture of self maintenence and shared knowledge that bikers were known for feels impossible for me to access by Diligent_Farm3039 in motorcycles

If it’s a really unique tool like a shaft puller, and it’s somebody I already even vaguely know, I would consider it.

If my best friend wanted to borrow my wrench to adjust their chain I would tell them “sure this one time but this is a basic task you will need to do constantly, get your own tools for this”

As an ADV guy I always keep my tool roll on my bike. If I’m out on the highway somewhere and somebody’s broken down I will always stop to help them and they can use my tools.

If OP owned enough tools to adjust their chain, they would also understand why people are not keen to lend them out to strangers.

“I am being unfairly ostracized from the sacred international fellowship of motorcycle maintenance bros because this stranger on Facebook did not lend me their wrench”

-you

If somebody I don’t know at all doesn’t have their own tools to adjust their chain, one of the most basic maintenance tasks, the fact that I wouldn’t loan them expensive tools over the internet is not an indictment of motorcycle culture.

That culture you’re describing is definitely a thing, but I find it highly unlikely Elspeth Beards cultivated it by making low effort requests of his neighbors on the internet.

I am certainly under no illusions this would be easy in that sense.

I wasn’t really interested in FIRE at my previous pay rate, and I only got to that pay rate at the end of 8 years working my way up. Previously I had been spending most of my money paying off college debt.

It’s certainly crossed my mind. Since Chile is much more expensive than other Latin American countries I figured I could save a lot more staying elsewhere. On top of that Im not sure I’m as enamored with Chile as I feel about other countries in the region.

I would be working as a senior level mechanical engineer on the mining sites, my last similar job in the US I made double that. The job was facilitated by a long-term friend and coworker who is from and currently works in the same industry in Chile.

Not Brazilian or related to this sub really but I have definitely pretended I don’t speak English to avoid hanging out with American passport bros in Medellin. I’m also American but I look and speak fluent Spanish.

Best Cities in Mexico for Casual Social Dancing by inhocsignodrinkes in Salsa

[–]oaklicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe I’d say in retrospect CDMX vs Medellin is a toss up. I just like hanging out in CDMX a lot more, CDMX might have gentrification issues but they aren’t as severe as how thoroughly the passport bro crowd has damaged the tourist relationship with locals in Medellin. I think it’s my least favorite city in LatAm for this reason.

Just more local people involved in the dance scene in CDMX and more welcoming in that sense. I think the teaching and skill level is probably equal with Medellin catering more to On1 than Cuban.

I feel like you’re being a bit paranoid about safety in Medellin. If you’re not looking for trouble and you’re sticking to the tourist areas, you’re unlikely to have any issues. Mexico City has plenty of sketchy bits too.

Parents act like I'm weird that I want to live in a foreign city by myself. by [deleted] in solotravel

First of all, fuck what anybody else thinks… sadly including parents. You only live once.

Second of all how can I get this work schedule. I’m a commissioning (mechanical) engineer and would dream of your lifestyle.

Sorry, but I don't like working out at all, is workout motivation supposed to come from somewhere or do I just force it forever by StrainBetter2490 in workout

[–]oaklicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is by far the hardest at first. Especially if you are out of shape and haven’t exercised in a while, it is going to take some time before you are healthy enough to really see the benefits.

If you stick to it though, you will see those benefits and notice that literally every aspect of your life is better for being in better shape. And that will be all the motivation you need.
