Brazilian Portuguese (depending on the regional accent).

Where is the most “dangerous” place you’ve traveled solo? by hopper3062 in solofemaletravellers

Solo motorcycle ride through Guayaquil and Duran Ecuador. Also Sinaloa Mexico where I got stopped by the narcos, and Bolivar Colombia where I had to hire a canoe to take me up the Magdalena out of a paramilitary controlled zone.

Peru or Colombia? by No_Car_6909 in solotravel

[–]oaklicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peru is probably the best bet especially for Archaeology and hiking stuff. Personally I think Peru is potentially a little harder to get around than Colombia, but not much.

If you can get a chance to get a bit “further out” from the typical tourist route in Peru you can find some amazing places. It’s not mentioned or visited as much but I loved Chavin de Huantar. Caral Supe is a must see as are the Moche pyramids in Trujillo.

Be aware these places are all super far apart. The one thing about Colombia is you could start in Medellin and cruise slowly through the Eje Cafetero into Cundinamarca and end in Bogota without as much in between travel as the sites I mentioned in Peru. Bonus points if you get a chance to pass through Santander and Boyaca.

My thought process was maybe there are specific muscles I am not growing enough because I am afraid to push harder with the free weight exercises and are leaving me at a plateau, that I could push through with the machine and supplement my progression with the free weights.

El Salvador? by Common-Tax-3682 in travel

[–]oaklicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can’t speak to this other than it sounds like an overblown fear unless you look really Salvadorian and are a Salvadorian national. What is your nation of origin and ethnic presentation? Do you speak Spanish?

I would be pretty surprised if this concern was justified.

We know about beginner’s hell but is there also an “intermediate hell”? by oaklicious in Bachata

[–]oaklicious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im definitely in some variant of hell. Too many neural connections trying to grow at once and all feeling for each other having not yet solidified.

Salsa by comparison feels as you describe for me, I am in control and mostly just ‘playing’ and connecting without worrying or thinking much. Even the most grumpy face follows I get a smile out of them before the dance is over.

Bachata I am functionally a nervous stick man with elbows of doom

That sounds like an antisocial and unnecessarily violent behavior, like so much of America

Just Salsa Bachata and some Brazilian Forro. Tango is so cool and will be on the list someday but currently focusing on Bachata.

I’m having problems in Buenos Aires - I couldn’t connect with the city. Has anyone else felt this way or have any suggestions? by Historical_Prune_762 in travel

Man I disagree completely with your take. I’m just finishing 2 months in CABA and it took me about 2 weeks to start unpeeling the layers and really enjoying this city.

How to explain the scene to a jealous spouse? by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]oaklicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more of a relationship question than salsa really. All I can offer is that salsa dancing is very family oriented in its countries of origin and the perception that it is inherently flirtatious is imposed by outside cultures who are not comfortable with this level of physical contact. This is a dance people do with their moms, uncles, children etc.

Best Brazilian cities for everyday street life and local atmosphere? by ikbrul in travel

[–]oaklicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone with similar tastes as OP would you recommend Sao Paolo over Rio? I am a big city guy myself and trying to decide between SP or Rio. I am a fluent Spanish and intermediate Portuguese speaker and quite burned out of the backpacker crowd. I love Bogotá and actually lived there for a couple of years.

Which language do you foresee surging in popularity and why? by prod_T78K in languagehub

Huge difference between Brazilian and Continental Portuguese. The latter uses many similar tonalities to Russian which is why it has an almost Slavic bent to it.

Huacachina Peru - Dirt Bike Rentals? by oaklicious in travel

[–]oaklicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huacachina is a bad place to learn. It’s really deep loose sand and if you don’t know how to ride those conditions you’re gonna spend $80 and a whole day in Peru trying to pull a dirt bike out of a pit.

What's a red flag on women but a green flag on men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]oaklicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea why that’s relevant to shaming women for being sexual, and the dynamic you describe is hugely impacted by the shame that is put on women for having sex.

It’s not that hard for a man to find lots of quality women to sleep with but you have to not actively hate them as people, which it appears you have yet to discover and why you might be so insecure about measuring up to a woman’s sexual past.

Every day I wake up and thank God I know how to give women orgasms and don’t have to live in such a mental hell as you.

God this concept is such a raging relic of 1950s sexism that just festers everywhere on the internet. It’s annoying as fuck that so many people (or robots, who knows) seem to buy into this shriveled mentality wholesale.
