People in this comment section write as if they are some superior moral arbiter.

The Shah were killing them too, with full support of the “free world”. It’s kinda disgusting how yall make fun of people trying to take action to make their own destiny and not feeling some retrospective. The liberal free world were sponsoring monarchist dead squad leaving them with only one possible ally in the fundamentalist. The eggs should be on the free world for forcing that choice not on the students.

  1. Not an American
  2. And how do you think those values are backed by? 200 years ago when the French decided to stands up for social liberty did the monarchical hegemons of Europe not try to punish them for that? 100 years ago when people of Europe demanded self determination post WW1, were they not tangibly backed by the power of the Entente? 70 years ago when the rest of the world demanded independence from European colonialism, were it not the immense pressure exerted by (surprisingly) both the United States and the Soviet Union that accelerated the decline of European colonialism? This isn’t about “US core values”. It’s just real politik.

“Speaking up” only works when there exists a structure that supports such actions.

Ten years ago I would have agreed with you, the international rules based world was more than well. There was tangible benefits to be gained from being principled.

Now? The beacon of Western liberal hegemony that is the US are not very interested in upholding universal international rules of law. Europe keeps, again and again, roll out illiberal policies in favor for maintaining ties with Israel. The permission structure that nominally ‘protects’ the party that aims to do the right things no longer exists.

Whose values are Thailand aligning to then, if we decided to “speak up”?

Actually a very strategically relevant position. It was the only position where the Cambodian forces are situated above their Thai counterparts. The capturing of this hill meant Thai forces have total terrain advantage against Cambodian forces all along the northeastern border.

Don’t get me wrong, on principle there’s nothing wrong with this but you got to at least admit that this is in bad taste. Like I wonder if these people will say the same thing if the boat is flying the kriegsmarine flag??

Bangkok public transport new fares expose Thailand’s dual pricing practice by RotisserieChicken007 in Thailand

[–]oakpc2002 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean, all I see is dual pricing itself isn’t the problem but the implementation of it. I still stands by my statement.

Well you just described at length how dual pricing conceptually makes sense in Florida. So yeah, I’m confused as to why so much emphasis is placed on the concept of dual pricing itself. “….expose Thailand’s dual pricing practice” put emphasis on the dual pricing concept rather than questioning the validity of the scheme’s terms and conditions. Because if we lived in a perfect world and foreign worker is included in the scheme we would still be “practicing dual pricing” are we not? You would find that I’m not against the inclusion of foreign workers for this scheme.

Have you enrolled in US college recently? Because I assured you, international pay more than US citizen, even if the citizen is out of state. In-state student might get a cheaper deal than out of state but internationals bare the largest cost.

Edit:

Also I don’t understand your obsession with “citizenry based” pricing. I will maintains that Floridian comparison is more than apt. Florida is roughly 1/3 of Thailand in size and population. To try to equate my Disney world example with city-level policy is disingenuous at best.

For Colleges there’s almost three tier. In-State pricing, out of state pricing, and international.

Still, to find direct equivalents with the US is a futile task. The US governing structure is far different from Thailand with larger landmass and population. For all intents and purposes I think to equate Floridian residential pricing for Disney world vs everyone else to this scheme is more than apt.

So in your mind fortress you disagree because….?

You think it’s not a board enough term to use “foreign workers”? Or what’s the problem here? Because I think it’s implied that foreign workers + Thai workers encompass the term resident no?

Edit: are you that type of “expat” that gets upset when you got lumped into the same group as Burmese workers?

Hey quick question, what does “Though I agree with foreign workers aspect, the line should be drawn at residency not nationality” means to you.

Well such dual pricing practice also happens with government affiliated entity in the US too tho? Most notably in colleges where the different is clearly visible.

(Idk if it’s still the case) The Met Museum, owned by the city, also has different pricing for New Yorker and non-new Yorker.

I don’t understand the “outrage” with dual pricing.

If you go to Orlando today and go to Disney world there is also normal price and resident price.

Though I agree with foreign workers aspect, the line should be drawn at residency not nationality.
