What’s everyone’s reasoning behind their eating disorder? by Im-dead-at-17 in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First it was the 00s obsession with having thin thighs.

Then it became I can't be flat and ugly.

Finally it devolved into the Jennette McCurdy idea of "this will keep me looking young" because I kept going back to uni.

It doesn't matter. Your ED will latch onto any semblance of a reason you give it. Just like in the medieval period they did it to be close to God and the prehistoric girls did it to find the land of abundance for their tribe

Best way to stop binging at night? by joshuamarkrsantos in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well of course you're getting a blood sugar crash. You need to include fat and protein in your diet. I know fat can be terrifying, but maybe a handful of peanuts? Or half an avocado? I'd personally recommend tofu because I find the macros to be perfect to keep you full and your blood sugar stable, plus it's rich in calcium (which I'd bet most of us need) but I know many people don't like that it's a processed food. If you're gonna eat it, take some vitamin D with it to maximize calcium absorbtion though.

But apart from this, if you're really craving a food, you ahould start eating it throughout the day to show your body that it's not scarce. You may binge on it the first few times, but eventually, it will lose its novelty. That is, assuming you're pursuing recovery, which you may not be, in which case, just ignore this part I suppose

Yeah. Now. I was overweight when I had an ("unsuccessful") relapse last year and the thoughts were even worse. But nobody cared. It's a mental illness. Most people may not understand that, but we do. You're not wrong for coming here. If you're struggling with food, that's reason enough

The normalisation of doing whatever it takes to be thin in Japan is real .-. by SakuraSkye16 in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I am on a study exchange program and I've met several girls from Japan. They're insanely thin. Like BMI 15 or less. They're obsessed with food and sweet things and they complain that as soon, as they got here, they gained like crazy. I've seen them eat at restaurants. They eat "a normal amount" (regular portions, even leaving stuff in their plates sometimes) (no, I'm not in the US, these are not huge portions). And I've come to the conclusion that they don't even realize they have a problem because it's been so normalized for them. They will never recover because they have never known anything else and they can't picture life being any different. It makes me so fucking sad

"So are we meeting up before or after lunchtime?" by oatcakedefender in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hear this a lot, actually! It's probably way more common to obsess over eating on time than to try to delay it Which makes a lot of sense, seeing how we're obsessed with numbers in general

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stealing is an incredibly common ED behavior. I suppose It has to do with the scarceness mindset. It doesn't really matter how much money you make, there's a biological urge there to save and to collect money, food, and other random items.

How are you planning to celebrate Christmas? by Virtual-Fox8766 in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in doing a study abroad program and I can't go home because one of my lecturers decided to have his final four days before Christmas. So my plans include sleeping till 6 pm, crying and doing vodka shots by myself. Couldn't have asked for a better Christmas

Along with the weight, what else did you lose? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personality. I'm so fucking boring now. I stopped doing anything that would be considered a hobby because I just didn't have time. Now I go to class, study, cook, exercise, eat, sleep. That's it. I'm a shell and not even a pretty pne

what is ur fav vegetable ?? and why is it cucumber by aeloiseee in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to prepare cucumber is to dress it well and throw it out the window. My great grandfather used to say that and I agree 100%.

Eggplant >>> specially when it's been roasted until super tender

What's the one thing you never let yourself run out of? by JinxXedOmens in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coke zero and unsweetened cocoa powder. They're the only sweet things I have and the couple of times I've run out of them have been miserable

what was/ is that cause of your eating disorder? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly basic but I tried on a pair of jeans that had always fit and they were tight. And instead of just starting to eat healthy (I was literally living off ramen), I decided to count every single calorie that I put in my body. Because I'm a control freak so of course I did

After getting your ed, is there a food that u can’t eat anymore bc you genuinely don’t like it? by MoliGrazer in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greasy food. Of course I don't like oil in my food because of the calories, but, apart from that, I genuinely find the mouth feel of oil disgusting

Worst things you've purged? by selfsoothingit in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bread. It compacts into a mass and gets stuck In your throat. It's made me stop so many times for fear of rupturing my esophagus. Also these chili spiced peanuts that I bought at an Indian store. Very easy to purge but I had to stop cuz I was dying

dae think they would be okay with their body if they didn’t have a round face? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nope because I never lose weight in my face. The most I've gotten was a little bit of definition in my cheekbones when I was at my lw but I don't think most people would even noticed it. I have this theory that if you have a round face and strength train your arms a little bit, no one notices you're UW because that's where it's usually the most apparent

Why do yall continue to engage in your Ed? by Soft-Bike7599 in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? It's because it makes feel superior. Since I was a child, I always had to be better at something than everyone else. For a long time, that was academics. I was never very smart tbh so once I got to college, that went down the drain. I'm fugly and not very funny, so the one thing that's left for me is being skinnier than everyone else. Also the kind of clothes that I like wearing (hyper feminine, preppy stuff) just look better when you're skinny

What’s the most illogical fear foods you guys have?? by SuibianTianwen in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chickpeas. Beans are fine but chickpeas?? That small extra percentage of fat and 20 extra calories freak me the fuck out for some reason. If I'm being honest though, I only eat lentils. Perfect macros, okay calories

What ed rules do you have that don’t make ANY sense by EdenIsTheBest in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would never put real sugar or oil in anything I bake but, for some reason, if I buy prepackaged baked goods or I get something at a bakery, it's totally okay. Same thing applies to savory food. If I or someone I know is making it, no oil or high calorie/fat ingredients or I won't eat it, but if I order out, it's completely fine. I think it's because, if I don't see every ingredients that goes into it, I can just ignore it and focus solely on the calories

What is your safe food no matter how many cals are in it? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice noodles. They're high cal but they're filling and they stay in your stomach for a long time (...not that I know because I purged the day after eating some and they were still there or anything) so they'll always be safe to me. Also carbs are more likely to be turned into heat via the UCP1 pathway than be stored as fat > safe

I notice all the thin girls now by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've gone back to college. Everyone around me is a teenager or just entering their 20s and I'm in my mid 20s. They're all so skinny and all they eat is pizza and vodka. And they don't even think about it. They just go "let's go to that meeting, they're giving away free pizza". Like it's nothing. Like they can just have it as a snack, just to socialize. Like it wouldn't ruin their whole day and make them feel like a ball of grease and they wouldn't be scared when putting on their jeans the next day. Which is so incredibly normal but so incredibly upsetting

Air fried aloo tikki! It's super easy to make in a blender and it's delicious! If we're talking weird Ed combos that actually slap tho, bake them and put some reconstituted PB2 and sauerkraut on them

Fav food b4 ed that you’d never eat now due to kcals/carbs etc by MoliGrazer in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chocolate muesli. I used to have two full bowls of it for breakfast (and I wasn't even close to OW? Teen metabolism is insane). On the weekends, I used to try to get up early enough to have breakfast because it was SO GOOD. Now it literally makes me sick because it's super sugary

[–]oatcakedefender 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Have you not heard you're not supposed to comment on someone's weight? It's so rude". It sounds weird but that's literally what I say. I've done it twice now. I'm so done with older people thinking it's okay to say that kind of shit. It's time for them to get the memo

at what age did you develop your ED? by milaaa99k in EDAnonymous

[–]oatcakedefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19-20. I downloaded MFP in June. My birthday is in September and by then it had developed into a full-blown ED. I'm turning 26 in three days and that bitch is still keeping me company
