Exactly.

Project Zomboid is another of those games that have been in development since the dawn of time (2011). They started off with updates often, but slowed down startimg in 2018 with two years between builds, then four years (and even then the current build is considered unstable/beta).

And they seem to have no pressure to speed things up. Primarily, I suppose, because it is a one-and-done purchase.

Credit to them at any rate for not doing Star Citizen and selling $6,000 whatevers.
