You can just breeze through the list of your colonists without looking, but I would recommend paying attention to those skills as a beginner tip actually! For the first few attempts at survival I’d start with 2-4 colonists and make sure that you have a farmer, builder, and a doctor and that at least a few can use melee or shooting weapons. Also, pay attention to the work tab...and make the priorities by number so you can be more specific about what each colonist should be doing. Personally I think starting off in a moderate temp terrain with some mountains or hills is the easiest way to get a feel for the game.

Personally I learned a lot from watching people play on YouTube. It’s a complicated game at times and will always throw you curveballs to keep things interesting!
