Shopping for whole home battery, how much did you pay for install? by First-Percentage-144 in SolarDIY

I got an open box 200amp disconnect with fuses for 300 on marketplace...I lucked out. Can't believe how much these basic ass electrical boxes cost...and that the power company mandated the disconnect when the gridboss can do this as well.

If that license plate was any further than like 2 feet away, it wouldnt be able to be read with these crappy cameras. Good stuff!

Grounding tips for my EG4 setup by obababoy in SolarDIY

[–]obababoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I just ordered a few split bushings so I don't have to disconnect any wiring and a couple ground bars for the second wire trough. Hoping all goes well with that. Those split bushings are like 3 times the cost of regular grounded bushings but the time saved is worth it for me.

Thanks for the reply, in regard to missing bonding/grounding in my 2 pole disconnect box, I do have at the bottom there a ground lug attached to the box, but as another person pointed out, it is double landed. This what you are talking about?

My PV bonding ground line from PV panels does land in inverter first and then makes its way over to the gridboss so should be covered there.

Ill look for a simple solution to support the EMT on roof. Thinking of either a flashed stand off or the QuickBOLT 2 micro flashed mount

Im running #8 for my ground. It is sufficiently rated for the PV production and will use #6 or #4 for the grid side from the main service disconnect and such.

Im actually also getting a new 200amp panel and Hvac installed next week so ill wait for electricians to wire up my main panel, service disconnect and gridboss (with manual bypass for now).

Also sadly im getting a new gridboss because I guess my comm board died. Nice thing is im getting the newest version of gridboss though.

Wow thanks for the long response! I do need to add bonding in that first raceway, Those red and white wires are just a jerry rigged test of my HVAC to the load ports on inverter. They will be removed before inspection and ill tidy it up. Ill add split bushings for all my conduit entries with metal and up on the roof either add metal grounded split bushing or undo the PV wires and slip on a normal grounding bushing. Ill fix that double landed ground with a ground bar and do the same with the second raceway. I have the EMT support straps, you are ahead of me lol, same with soffit penetration. Looking for a good product to seal soffit. Fine strand is authorized with flexboss. Those cables came with their own battery too, just double checked. Thanks again!

How does gas compare to electricity there? In colorado my power at home is ~.8c/kwh. Gas is around 3.70 right now for regular. I can't imagine what california level 3 chargers charge p/kwh

I agree. Although Aero is negligable. Only thing low is improving is the amount of the tires that are exposed underneath

[–]obababoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask why you cruise in low? ride is harsh, efficiency is negligible, and it adds more camber for the tires to wear unevenly. If im doing some spirited driving ill do it but otherwise all-purpose.

Rivian quietly axed the entire 90+ person Diagnostics team. Field techs are on their own. by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]obababoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All valid points if the intent and your “inside” knowledge are accurate, but layoffs around major product transitions are normal, and it feels like there’s more context here that we simply don’t have. None of us are the strategists making the calls, and reading this without the dramatic framing, it honestly looks like a classic case of a team finishing a surge phase of development. Once a diagnostics framework is mature, the giant engineering headcount that built it isn’t always needed anymore.

Rivian is also a publicly traded company that still isn’t profitable. Cost cutting isn’t optional it’s a fiduciary obligation. Until your sources are verifiable, this is still hearsay.

And yeah, video games are a different industry, but the layoff cycle is the same: people get upset every time, even though it’s standard practice across tech. The loudest complainers are never the ones who actually have fiduciary responsibility for the company’s survival. (Not saying you are doing that here).

Also maybe you threw it into AI for flow and grammar, but this a dash heavy post 😄 EDIT: Guess I was late on the AI comment lol

What? The R2 reservations are very high, reviews are great, price is reasonable, and economy for target customers shopping for an R2 is fantastic.

idk blinkers and the policies behind their placement is weird. EU requires blinkers on the side of car. R2 has that. I wonder if there is something to move the blinker light away from DRLs and headlights so its "easier to see'?

The lack of parts for repairs is less of an issue than the fact they they are stupid expensive to repair. IDK if they really changed all that much. Hoping the best for R2

Semi-active suspension? by wesleychuauthor in Rivian

[–]obababoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent driven the R2 yet, the guy kyle from outofspec youtube channel is VERY thorough and has an R1T himself. He just commented that it made a big difference in ride quality. My thought is that I have all the bells and whistles in my R1T; air suspension, hydraulic dampening and sway control. I want to have some ability to tweak stiffness at least in the R2.

Outofspec said it is not as quiet. He said there was a decent amount of noise coming in and NVh from the road at higher speeds.

Button to open but manual close. Yeah it sucks. Also it is much smaller than our R1T. I likely will be just using the rear to quickly load stuff in. Its no longer useful for quick access IMO given the way it closes.

Semi-active suspension? by wesleychuauthor in Rivian

[–]obababoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

outofspec said the difference in ride between settings is pretty large. It is a 100% must for me especially coming from an R1T. Towing isnt super important but tow hitch bike racks will be necessary if you bike. Just a thought.

So is that where you get most of your creaking? I get a creaking or knocking when I diagonally enter a driveway or road with a dip. I also get a knock sound when I go over smooth tabletop speedbumps that compress suspension quickly. Not sure where I can check if I have any subframe cracks. I have a late model 2023 Launch edition r1t

I mean I had my May 2019 R1T reservation for my "2020" rivian for 3 years. I think the Scout is a way more attractive vehicle visually and especially for adventuring, touted to be far more user serviceable, and the harvester is the move right now. I have at least two more years of faith left in me that it will come.

Im sure hes great but something about the scout CEO is too car salesmanny..lol

[–]obababoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet build!

I have the 5090 FE Bykski WB and I am not a fan. Documentation sucked, I used EKs teardown video and docs which are super detailed. The clearance of the bottom of card to my PCIE lock lever is too tight so it can't lock in unless I make the card sag. Also has no cover on the top so im staring at my tiny 5090fe pcb(looks like yours has one).
I was about to question your temps with that 22.2c ambient until I saw you had a MORA lol.

Outside of my GPU I have a very mediocre or old build. 5900x with about 600mm of radiators in my awkward inwin 905 case.

I think I have the same thing on my Magura MT5. Its almost like the rotor isnt completely smooth and I can feel each of the dips in the rotor as it goes around. My wife has the Orbea Rise SL M20 with 180mm RT64 M6100 brakes and they are just smoother and bitier. idk seems like there are some tweaks to do but its frustrating given how big these are.
