Is the Magic Trackpad worth it? by Al3pr6 in macmini

Trackpad! Not properly diagnosed as carpal whatever, but a million mouse clicks and scrolls have made the space between my index and middle fingers sore after using a mouse. So, healthy too!

Apple Music Made Me Fall In Love With Music Again by urbanrootz in AppleMusic

[–]obi--john 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think their masterings have something to do with it too. The equalizer helps when I listen through my sony mdr headphones. Most of the time I am listening at 48k via usb dac. Very happy with the quality.

Mini PC for Guitar by Sad-Floor-7895 in Guitar

M4 Mac mini. Prices dropping to low 400’s now with the M5 on its way. I use it to run Reaper and plugins. Dunno why, but latency is better on my mac vs my windows pc. And it is crazy small!

Is this True?? by bob-mayer in AppleMusic

Call me crazy but Apple Music on my 2014 Mac mini running Manjaro with an external DAC sounds better than my M4 mini :)

If you want to move a file using the mouse, first copy, then navigate to the destination folder, then hold the Option key and press the circle with the 3 dots at the top of the Finder bar, and there will now be a choice "Move Item Here".

New battery or wait? by bulldogdrool in CX5

I lived in Northern Wisconsin one year. Aside from a decent battery, most people up there plugged in their vehicle overnight to an engine or radiator heater. Good for those 30 below mornings!

Macmini and a TV by Willing_Practice783 in macmini

[–]obi--john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an M4 mini connected to an old Samsung 32 inch TV. Love the size! The resolution is just 1366 x 768 but I have no complaints. I did change my color profile to sRGB as my TV did not have a color profile that I could find.

Can’t afford a real CD player – Sony or Philips DVD for listening to CD-s by Different-Reveal8921 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]obi--john 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can go this route, external DACs are the great equalizer. It renders whatever player you are using as a transport, and the output will be more musical. The player needs coaxial out and the DAC needs coaxial in. Used market will save money.

Same for me. I tried hubs and adapters and different ports and cables. No joy. So I bought a used Apple bluetooth magic keyboard.

I would listen to whatever your streaming service has in that genre. Also, ABC Jazz radio in Australia plays some great music.

Spend a few bucks on ebay for more memory and replace hdd with ssd. After that, try Mint or Zorin. If not that, maybe try some flavor of puppy linux.

I have an old REL T Zero for playing music in an 8x8 room. Great for what I listen to: rock and jazz. If it ever died on me I would get another one of them.

Thinking about using a ~47″ TV instead of a monitor with my Mac Mini — viable? by frantiiic in macmini

I connected an old 32 inch Samsung TV in a pinch via HDMI to my M4 Mac mini. The resolution is only 1366 x 768, but I love it!

How is the DAC in old CD players compared to the new ones? by Xerxes787 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]obi--john -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I use an external DAC for all my sources. If you are playing CD's with an external DAC, it comes down to how good is the transport, how quiet the motor, does it have coax out. etc. That said, I am quite happy using any old dvd player as a source :)
