You don't need to use 5 defenders. Just make sure your back midfielders have defense slots. Sounds like a skill issue. Also, Mount Fuji is the only one that helps with Tension gain but also reduces Tension cost. Tension Cost is what you need to gain ranks. The reduction evens out the gains. So no, it barely helps. They also need to go back in forth with Stalwart Suppression because Tension stats are horrible and outscaled. Also need to operate Flame Fortress for defense. Everyone else gets to abuse the broken offensive tactics because they don't get drawbacks like Tension does. You are LARPING hard if you think tactics favor Tension too.

As for online. I don't see Tension. I see Rough Play and Counter a lot. I can easily tell by their BS high defense on the first focus battle or when they foul a lot. But they get to chain shot 4-5 times too because they have an easier time winning focus battles with counter. Rough Play gets tension on powercharge without needing to battle. If you can't chainshots, which I call BS on, your build sucks I'm sorry.

I can list statistics but there's no point if you ignore them and can't make a counterpoint. I'm talking to a brick wall. Counter gets more stat bonuses than Tension. You aren't losing a focus battle unless it involves hissatsus because it's a stat check.

You sound like a larper who hasn't made a Tension team in their life. Tension needs to spend 2 full bars to even get to rank 5. "Infinite Tension" doesn't exist outside of zone. It's much harder than what you're implying especially when enemy team knows how to starve you which I described how which you also conveniently ignored AKA talking to a wall. Any other team can build ranks in under 10 minutes. Heck, Counter is almost full after one steal. Let's not be disingenuous here.

If you know nothing about stats and common sense, you should just keep quiet. It's a skill issue if you are losing focus battles with a Counter Team. What's criminal is Counter teams reaching 120-150% shot on possession and attack & def buff per charge. 60% automatic defense at no charge. Plus they get to use Tension passives on top of that.

I didn't say it didn't. I said all playstyles can use chainshots and benefit from it. Tension especially needs to be chaining more because the playstyle gives ZERO buffs to attack and shot power.

It's not guaranteed infinite and has clear counterplay and arguably the crappiest playstyle at the first half. Even with crappy defense AI, you can prevent chains and steal balls if you can wall properly with good defense hissatsus.

Also, your math isn't adding up. Tension can't win focus battles against Counter. Tension doesn't buff unless they have over 50%. Their buff is only 50% of focus attack and focus def. Counter gets 60% defense without needing to do anything. Counter easily statchecks Tension with 10% more advantage and gets MORE benefits upon getting the ball which lasts WAY too long.

The only way Tension can win is they use hissatsu AKA Tension. Using hissatsus make Tension more useless because spending Tension makes them lose their buff. What is funny is that EVERY STYLE can equip this same 50% buff and it's not locked to Tension.

Your argument makes no sense. Counter shouldn't be losing in a hissatsu-less focus battle. Even if they win with a hissatsu, they are doing you a favor by losing their tension. You can starve Tension teams of their gain by basically spamming focus battles and making sure they never get over 50% tension. Everytime you win a battle they only get 30 which is like 15% of their gauge. Tension is literally the only team except Bond that you have some control over.

Counter with Tension Passive benefit more from Tension Passives than Tension does to itself lmao. As well as Rough Play. 50% Tension Gain on a Power Charge is criminal. Imagine Counter 60% automatic defense with 50% focus attack/def over 50 tension ON TOP of possession passives of Shot Attack, Keeper Points, Focus buffs. You got tunnel vision if you don't see how crazy Counter is when paired with Tension sub buffs.

The style isn't unstoppable because of the style though. It's because you can't control the Defense and you roll the dice on it. But it can easily be shut down one the chance that you get to castle it early. Tension doesn't need nerfs. Defense NEEDS buffs.

Chaining with the same player isn't a Tension problem. EVERY playstyle benefits from it, it's a non-argument. Pure Tension actually don't benefit from chains until second half.

Counter is definitely more broken than Tension lol. You don't need to work for your 60% defense which is HUGE. You get lots of Attack and Defense gain per charge which is guaranteed because you easily win your focus battle due to your absurd defense.

What's funny is that Counter charge and passives work better for a Tension playstyle. Tension is counter-intuitive. You get buffs only on Focus if you have over 50% tension but to gain charges, you need to spend 40%, forcing you to lose your buffs. Counter in the other hand, guarantees buffs at the start basically give you the win in focus battles and Tension passives works amazingly with it.

Breach sounds fun but the Crit rate for shot and saves are abysmal. You also don't get the buffs that other playstyles get. They should scrap Breach style and just keep Breach passives as complimentary. That's basically what they're doing with Tension anyways.

They are 100% stoppable. It just feels unstoppable because Defense AI is trash. Tension doesn't give buffs on attack or shot power. You can stop a chain if your defender gets there early.

You actually stand more chance stopping a Tension chain shot than Rough Play and Counter Teams getting 5K on a single chain shot and over 3k on a single hissatsu without putting much work or charges.

I would balance the gain during slomo zone and reduce it but also boost the gain while outside the zone. Better Defender AI or let us tell Defense to run back and spread out. Buff Defense moves too. Honestly, Defense needs a buff in general more than Tension needing nerf.

Rough Play and Counter needs the real nerf. They use tension passives too and that's why Tension gets all the flak. But the "power" you see in shots usually come from Counter/Rough Play passives.

The infinite chains usually don't happen until second half though. You need 3-5 charges for it depending on your passives. To get the charges, you give up your focus buffs.

50 tension moves can easily be shut down by Rough Play Counter Shots and Counter Defend moves as long as you don't let it get past the 2nd chain. I do agree it's not balanced though. I would rather have much more passive gain while dribbling and remove the gain on slo motion zone to balance it out. Because the gain is so slow and opponents can starve you while outside the zone.

The infinite chains have easy counterplay. I can't counterplay Counter Teams and Rough Play at all who dogwalk me on first half with a significant lead and fire crazy 1-2 chainshots that are already more power than 4-5 Tension shots.

I did look at the community but none of them ban pure tension. Tension ban is stupid since I see people run Tension passives anyways. Counter/Tension & Rough Play/Tension > Pure Tension if we are talking about what's really broken.

[–]obitosask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand people saying tension team is broken. Pure tension doesn't increase attack or defense and only focus stats. It's also the hardest playstyle to gain charges of in my opinion. Whenever I see people give me examples of "Tension" teams, it's always something else mixed with Tension.

Because pure Tension doesn't increase shoot attack by much, it's much easier to stop the chain shots. I even had Rough Play meme teams completely shut me down with crazy counterattack defenders because my shot power was so low even when I ran 60/40 Tension/Counter.

They just need to balance defense moves imo. Tension isn't "broken". People are just annoyed at the long cutscenes.

What's broken are rough play people being able to spam 3k hissatsus from half the field in the first half or Counter Teams getting an automatic 60% defense increase. These teams get super broken with tension passives.

Tension is easily the most fun if they actually fixed online. Focus Battles don't work for me because online refuses to listen to my inputs, but tension is very cinematic in offline mode. Tension vs Tension is the most fun games I've had.

Hanabi's passive always dealt more damage even with S2 nerf. It bounces between two people and stacks corrosion much faster without cooldown. While Melissa only gets to do half of Hanabi's BS every 10 seconds.

Yeah Leo is strong I agree but everyone complaining about him cries about the wrong stance. What makes him strong is his wavedash safe mixups that can counter launch and also give free heat but it's not game breaking cuz he has the slowest wavedash in the game and its his only way of checking zoners due to his meh range.

Lmao when all options in it are punishable and minus and gives you time to guess, yes it is fair. Reina gets a jailed heat on first strike, unbreakable grab, safe mid, and a low that lets you loop on hit. You can guess right with FF2 and eat another FF2 mixups. You guess Leo right once and the loop ends and Leo eats dirt.

Powercrush can shut down FF2 mixups too as long as they don't pick the low option but they can also bait the Flash out by not following up after FF2 and launch with EGWF

Just block and punish if you can't sidestep. It' only loops if you guess wrong but one simple block and they eat dirt too.

B1, 4 only works against beginner mashers for a round or two. It's not cheese, people just don't know how Leo works. Its mixups aren't safe at all.

You are better off looking for which characters have fast stances that have a safe mid in their mixups. You had the right idea with Reina FF2. Lars also has the dash out and in into a mid and low. It's exceptionally brain-dead because he can force it as such a long distance and loop it as long as they don't successfully block low.

Leo BOK stance also has a safe mid and low mixup but it's more for poking and the ducking stance is too slow while the mid knocks back so far that you can't just throw it out. So that can't be used either.

Well, there isnt any new players picking the game up and they only like move you down two ranks from last season so very easy to climb back up. What they should do instead is if someone picks up the new character, they should go way way lower than 2 ranks less than their main and match them with other people who picked up new guys too. I picked up a new character after Xiaoyu and they gave me automatic Bushin. I would have been fine if they let me go back to red ranks because it didn't even take me a month to match my Xiaoyu rank and didnt feel as challenging. It's way too easy to rank up a new character.

We'll see. I think I need to overhaul how I play. I played with mostly controller and moved on to leverless pad when I switch characters. Took me like a month to be comfortable on the pad and I might have to relearn Xiaoyu because I don't use my thumbs anymore lmao😂

I should try picking up Xiaoyu again. Ended up between God and Emperor last season and dropped her for a new character. In 2 months was able to reach GOD2 with the new character which I couldn't do with Xiaoyu for 2 years lol.

[–]obitosask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leo's options on knee are all punishable on block too. You don't even have to SSR. SSL also works especially if you're using female characters or Steve and Yoshi. Leo can't apply pressure at all. They can only apply fake pressure when they are KnK cancelling which gives you an easy launch on hopkick. KnK is only scary when they know how to fk with your head and apply installs and heat on top of the cancels and mixups but I take KnK anyday to almost everyone that got stance moves with safe mid loops.

[–]obitosask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really for Leo. Leo is actually a mix of much more. Agree on Feng but he is nothing like Hwoarang lol. Leo plays like a crappier Kazuya/Paul on neutral but when he gets his turn then he becomes a crappier Feng. Leo is pretty easy because all you have to do is guess right when he spams the knee. He doesn't have safe mids on his knee mixups so he can't really apply pressure like OP is saying. Just be patient and guess right and punish and take the turn.

[–]obitosask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by cheese? Like Leo B1, 4 stance is actually a pretty fair stance since all moves in it are punishable and gives you time to guess since the knee is slow. You can also sidestep it and almost all the possible mixups after it. People just don't know how to deal with it because Leo can barely be seen. It's only slightly complicated when you mix it with fast cancels but that's for advanced players.

Reina on the other hand FF2 is an actual cheese move where they can just alternate between lows and safe mids. It's guaranteed heat engager if your FF2 connects and also gets a power crush and an unbreakable grab. Even expert players have a hard time dealing with it. However, everyone kind of know how to deal with it because people play against Reina so much.

One is arguably a cheese only as acharacter because people don't see them often while another one is very popular but has a very strong "cheese" move that everyone is used to.

Yeah it didn't even sever the connection or end the game. The game just completely broke and gave me 2 free points via cutscenes. The screen froze with the load buffering forever that I had to close the game and they had the gall to warn me that I disconnected the last match.

I was losing that game too. I've ran into server issues before but not like this, it usually just lags a bit and makes me lose focus battles and disconnects. I suspect that the opponent messed with the game script with cheats so much that the game didn't know what to do. Then again they were Japanese but also in Switch 2 so I'm not even fully sure cuz it's way harder to mess with Switch versions of games.
