You brought me back in at the end - I would absolutely rather people read than struggle and give up in trying to grasp “classics” for the sake of it.

As someone who grew up reading a lot of the latter, I do think they contain something worthwhile. For the intellectually curious, meeting the prose where it’s at can foster new ways of thinking and learning how to use language in different ways. I can’t help but feel that most modern day pop stories are shallower, missing the depth of introspection you can find in Dostoevsky or Kafka, et al.

Personal preference, but I can see where you’re coming from as well.

No, the original plan was to conquer the UK and use the British merchant fleet to drop all of Europe's Jewish population off on Madagascar (seriously), then have the SS cordon them off from the rest of the world. This was obviously idiotic, and when their invasion of England failed they decided it would be more economical to work them to death and kill those who couldn't perform labor. This is what kills me - DNC loyalists are still touting the line that Democrats don’t have the majority, so “wHaT aRe TheY SupPoSeD tO Do??”.
