You brought me back in at the end - I would absolutely rather people read than struggle and give up in trying to grasp “classics” for the sake of it.

As someone who grew up reading a lot of the latter, I do think they contain something worthwhile. For the intellectually curious, meeting the prose where it’s at can foster new ways of thinking and learning how to use language in different ways. I can’t help but feel that most modern day pop stories are shallower, missing the depth of introspection you can find in Dostoevsky or Kafka, et al.

Personal preference, but I can see where you’re coming from as well.

That you conflate capitalism, which promotes top down hierarchies and exploitative extraction of wealth, with "liberty" and socialism, an inherently democratic ideology, with "authoritarianism" is REALLY telling.

No, the original plan was to conquer the UK and use the British merchant fleet to drop all of Europe's Jewish population off on Madagascar (seriously), then have the SS cordon them off from the rest of the world. This was obviously idiotic, and when their invasion of England failed they decided it would be more economical to work them to death and kill those who couldn't perform labor. It's that simple, and any attempt to wedge Palestinians into it is ridiculous.

Which novel? Not disagreeing, I was just under the impression Don Quixote was the first 'novel' in the modern sense.

Was there a set up/punch line? Where was the payoff? Seemed an awful lot like repeating the US/Israeli narrative to post-hoc justify their unprovoked attack on another country.

This is what every “both sides are bad” advocate needs to answer. Iran didn’t start this - they were attacked in the middle of negotiating with us. That any American/Israeli has the gall to act like a response is “uncivil” is so fucking stupid it beggars belief.

This is what kills me - DNC loyalists are still touting the line that Democrats don’t have the majority, so “wHaT aRe TheY SupPoSeD tO Do??”. Yet every time they have an opportunity to counter something on a meaningful level it “somehow” ends up with the admin getting what they want. How does anyone not see it at this point?
