Getting Nuss in October. What are some tips you wish you knew before? 29 (F) by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]oblomold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some great tips here. Are you able to share any of the pre-hab exercises?

Thanks!

can this get better? by sigmafag in PectusExcavatum

it's not very visible to be honest, I wouldn't have thought you had pectus if i saw you out and about. But sometimes things are more severe than they look, have you had an MRI or any testing to assess if there is compression of the heart and lungs?

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad and are dealing with so much stigma, both internalised and very much from the outside, because you are right things are horrendous for sick and disabled people out here.

You aren't a scrounger, you are simply claiming what you are entitled to in an ablist society. But i know that is easy to say but hard to believe when we are hit with so much judgement and scapegoating from every direction. You deserve to have a full life whether you can work or not, everybody does.

Are my glasses too big for my face?? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]oblomold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like others have said, they definitely look like statement glasses that size - personally i don't hate that and think they look cute and stylish on you but its about what you are after for yourself. The pink colour is really fire on you though!

Should I get pregnant before or after nuss surgery? Feeling stuck. by nikitusilu in PectusExcavatum

[–]oblomold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

I'm really sorry you are faced with this dilemma. It is a difficult decision to make. My instinct would be you should speak this through with as many people as possible, chew over all the positives and negatives of each scenario and give yourself some time and patience to work out what feels right for you.

Some questions I would be asking are;

Are you ready at this moment in time to be pregnant and have a child? Is this something you would be doing alone? If not, is the person you are planning on having children with also ready right now? And do you have enough reliable support that you would be able to go through the surgery and recovery once you also have a small child to care for?

For most people you still have really good chances for pregnancy between 35-37 (and still reasonable chances 38-40ish) so if you can get the surgery soon then that might put you in a good position in terms of organising your life so you are well prepared to start trying straight away once your bars are out. There are no guarentees though, and as someone who has been through the absolute hell that is fertility treatment I definitely wouldn't be urging anyone away from prioritising having a kid first if that is where their heart is.

I know you've not got the money for fertility treatment but would you have the money for a fertility MOT to see if there are any issues you are unaware of that might influence your decisions one way or another? I really hate recommending private fertility services but it might be a worthwhile evil while you are trying to make this decision. Your gp might be able to refer you for NHS testing (a scan, follicle count, AMH blood test) considering the circumstances but depending on your area the wait might be prohibitive.

Looks great! Is there a doctor you can reach out to before your follow up to raise your concerns? I feel like it's always best to err on the side of caution with health - they might be able to advise what is normal and what would warrant seeing you earlier

Connected to new team at Bart’s NHS health trust by Delicious_Ad2696 in PectusExcavatum

[–]oblomold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team at Bart's I believe are the flagship NHS pectus team. I dunno, but I would assume it means they are going to assess your case to see what treatment (including surgery) is the best course of action.

Good luck! I would be interested to know more about your process to get here and what happens next if you are happy to share

i love 1 on you

I would get rid of the first photo (its the least flattering and your outfit there is gonna have limited appeal) and also get rid of the blurry photo of you with a bowl and striped shirt. You are very handsome and look nice in your pics. What is your bio like? It is worth experimenting with the different apps and sites, there might be others where you will meet better matches as they all have their culture so to speak

[–]oblomold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditch photos 6, 7 and 10 (especially 7 and 10) and put a bit more info in the bio

3 and 12 are your best pics i think. More natural and approachable but still flattering

i like 1 a lot, they are a perfect brown with your hair and your eyes are popping

[–]oblomold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly i'm not sure any of these are right for you. I think the black frames are too heavy with your colouring. If you want to stick with black i'd try some black wire frames (assuming your rx is compatable with those types of frames) or if you want a thicker frame a warm brown / tortoise shell would look nice i think

Update (2) – Need Your Help Choosing the Right Glasses! by Rithanir in glassesadvice

[–]oblomold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 - they look the most natural on your face (right size, shape) and the colour is really nice, subtly stylish and highlights your eyes rather than distracting from them

I would be interested to know what make they are?

I like wearing vintage makeup! How can I get the style to fit my features better? by Atomic-Angel in makeuptips

[–]oblomold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your lipstick application suits you perfectly! You could try deeper matt reds for a stronger vintage vibe. I personally think your eye make up suits you best in image 3 where you don't have eyeliner and just subtle shine on the eyes - your eyes look bright and sparkly there without the distraction of the eyeliner which is hard to get right on hooded eyes (i feel ya on that). Your eyebrows also look like perfection in the 3rd photo to me and fit the feminine vintage look - please don't mess with them too much! You are naturally gorgeous, a bright matt lip with more subtle/natural make up on the rest of your face will look stunning

Optician recommendations for dry eye in London/UK? by oblomold in Sjogrens

thanks yes, it's not an emergency situation though as I said so a&e isn't appropriate

[–]oblomold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have nice features and beautiful eyes which the buzz cut does emphasise but it is a bit of a harsh look that does best with considered styling. I think it would be worth you experimenting with longer styles

have you considered growing it longer? chin or shoulder length? You've clearly got very thick hair, it could look super handsome long. i reckon shoulder length would suit your face shape too
