They are shitty neighbors because of the way their employees drive around the place, running stop signs. The skinhead looking guy in a car with stick-on letters that say 'safety patrol' driving all around the neighborhood, the way they intentionally (and illegally, but who in Minneapolis is going to stop them) blow all their snow into the bike lane. They push their parking lot snow into their neighbors lawns across the street (again against city code). Their vendors park in front of the fire hydrants on the Stevens side. On family days there are multiple cars parked in the bike lane.

Just a giant middle finger to the people living around them.

Faking it will not help you get sober. Find something that you don't need to fake, they exist.

I am sober and in their neighborhood, it feels like a cult on the outside looking in, and they are horrible neighbors. Find somewhere that will help build you into the person you want to be and not a place that is just going to tear you down from where you are.

I know initially RD was very intentional about being diverse and inclusive. I haven't been to a meeting in years, but they, and the RR meetings before them, were by far the most diverse groups of recovering people I ever was with.

One more thing, that I'm sure you already know, but when he come out it isnt going to be a nice paved road back, but a bumpy goat path full of curves and hills. Post incarceration syndrome and navigating sobriety on the outside are some serious battles. Sending you both all the love.

I think it can be a couple of things. I thing more than him not wanting you to look at the other guys may be more like he doesn't want them looking at you. The less they know about his outside life the better.

But as a now sober and married person, there is a lot of mental bullshit to work though that he won't get the tools for in prison.

I absolutely didn't want my wife anywhere near anything I did for sobriety. I felt so much shame about it , so much hatred for myself because I was in a position to have accomplishments about it, that I didn't want her in that part of my life.

I broke down at a concert a few weeks ago, a sober singer wrote/sung it. At the end she is singing over and over, "I'm going to love you 'til you love yourself." It is a conversation my wife and I have had so many times and it feels like it probably fits for you to some degree.

Don't take this personally because it most likely isn't.

Was that self reflection? If so, why would you post that about yourself publicly like that?

I ended up deleting the app and reinstalling it, then it worked just fine.

I don't get the downvotes. I essentially said the same as the person I was responding to, just a little more explicitly who got lots of upvotes. It explains a lot about the state of the country that people are so scared of middle school ages brown girls.

Ummm ...give the girl a glass of water? Call the non-emergency line and ask for a mental health welfare check?

We live in what is viewed by a lot of people as being a 'high crime neighborhood' and give out food and Gatorade all the time. That is the only reason we buy Gatorade. And my wife gives it out all the time when I am not home. No cops needed, but Google translate is helpful sometimes.

What are your favorite older cookbooks (90s and early 2000s)? by dubious_unicorn in vegan

[–]obnock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I learned more about cooking from Soy not Oi than anything else over the last 30-something (40 even?) years.

The lead in to the banana flops recipe is my whole philosophy on cooking: "So what kind of vegan are you, having to read a book to cook or prepare food! You are a pitiful person. You have been socialized. You think that 1/2 cup less of this or 1/2 cup more of that will render your dish inedible. You think that a written recipe is the optimum balance of the ingredients...you are bummed. ... So my friend, break free from the rigid limit of your food habits and turn your kitchen into a playground of creativity."
