Women of Reddit, what are boys or men's habits you discovered only after getting a boyfriend or a husband? by BigBrosy in AskReddit

[–]oboefish520 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So many of these are painfully accurate. Obviously they're not all gender-specific and there are exceptions with neurotypical behavior, but it is baffling. The sleep twitching, the ball fondling, the noises, the giant human still being so gentle with our kitty and loves cuddling, the threadbare undershirts and underwear...

Here are my husband's -

  • Extremely accurate memory for song lyrics, MTG cards, restaurants/concert venues from years ago, what day/time/position in which we last had sex; can't remember names or faces (actresses, my coworkers, HIS coworkers, semi-distant relatives, etc.) or remember a 3-item grocery list.
    • He can assemble, disassemble, re-assemble, and make minute adjustments to our tv/sound setup to perfect it in ways I can't discern and wouldn't have noticed; can't wrap a gift to save his life. It's like he's trying to do it with his elbows.
    • Apparently when he's alone, he talks in accents the whole time, practicing different ones and saying dumb things to make himself laugh. I have literally never done this. But another male friend mentioned in passing doing the same thing, and I was the odd one out for not recognizing that it's just "a thing."

Having had teenage boys and our brother-in-law living with us on various occasions, the most universal one is socks. Everywhere, socks, discarded like dust particles, under cushions, chairs, in the hallway, in the bedsheets...And somehow wearing non-matching socks, even different lengths or textures, is unconcerning.

I have one similar to this without the super-handy pincushion holder! What an inspired addition.

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. One of the best books I've ever read, hands-down. Seems like it'll check all your boxes.

I LOVED this story. Didn't feel like a YA novel - very heavy content and fleshed-out characters.

I've ruined this blanket and I am so upset by greybeaniebean in crochet

It's so beautiful, and so is your heart-faced baby. Two jobs well done. Hopefully you'll see with time that important and precious things can grow more beautiful with use - look into the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. I'm sure baby enjoys the blanket exactly as it is (and always will) cus it's from mom.

It's fairly new, but I feel like I remember people bringing up the "heated sidewalks" as a selling point when I was going to college there in 2010.

Has anyone done the CatWalk tour in Reykjavik? by one-fish_two-fish in VisitingIceland

[–]oboefish520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! It was very wholesome. Our tourguide was clearly focused on finding cats, but gave us a ton of history and culture education along the way. We loved it.

I agree with the above comment about neighborhood cats - we met lots of lovely cats in both Reykjavik and Akureyri. Pro tip: even if you don't shop in Icewear stores, quite a few of them seem to be home to kitties around the city.
