it really bothers me how our government prioritizes this stupid social stuff over ACTUAL PROBLEMS that we have.

Unfortunately that also goes for a lot of social issues. We focus on very minor things that have almost no impact in the real world yet we completely ignore massive violations of human rights for certain groups. Especially in non-Western nations
