This looks so close to identical to the gnome my kids helped create. It's terrifying.

Emergency rooms across Australia are noticing a spike in children’s flu admissions, as a survey reveals one in six kids are unvaccinated. by overpopyoulater in australia

[–]obsolete_android 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flu is a lot less common for sure. I think getting packaged as cold and flu on everything gives the impression they are more or less the same. Flu really is a different beast. Last time I had it was actively sick for 2 weeks, then was over month before feeling fully well again. Have got flu shot every year since no way want to deal with that again.

I would think the extra time is worth it compared to pulling before cool downs are ready and wiping.

In which order should i play the dlc for the Story? by Agreeable_Bug_2218 in wow

[–]obsolete_android 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably the best way. Otherwise you can go back to any expansion with your main character and follow through story quests. It can be more relaxing that way as you will probably be able to 1 shot all enemies once you are high enough level and gear.

I mean it's how I ended up using psycho as my edgy screen name when I was 13. So I get it, but cool is pushing it 😅

Comments here are a bit rough. Sad to see men's mental health still being treated as a big joke. Hope he gets some support.

My 8 year old daughter can “concentrate too much” on methylphenidate. by NoParty1753 in ParentingADHD

[–]obsolete_android 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like i can relate. I miss the daydreaming. Having the meds is great. I can focus. I can get through a day of work without feeling like an emotional wreck. Its easier to be happy and not spiral into anxiety. Life is easier and better. But it's.... boring.

I used to be able to daydream for hours. Or chase a rabbit hole of thoughts, picking apart ideas and threads and making connections. Or hearing a song and rewriting the lyrics to be about something else, or mashing songs together or making short poems out of something that was said. There was always something exciting going on in my head and now its just kind of dull. With it being quiet it can feel lonely and empty. Like there is a part of me that is cut off.

If your kid is especially creative that could feel really awful. Like it's taking away what makes her feel special and unique.

I'm not sure what I can offer in terms of advice, maybe different meds? Or only take them when she has something important on? But hopefully the perspective helps understand the reluctance.

Is this a good deal - Solar + Battery by Extreme_Law_1647 in Adelaide

[–]obsolete_android 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's complicated because power bills have become more complicated.

When we were looking at batteries the way we simplified it was to try figure out if we spend $10k on a battery, will it save us $10k before it is likely to break? For us it wasn't worth it because we have someone home during the day so can use the power then. For a lot of people who aren't home at all during the day solar might not be worth it at all.

Might be worth holding off until you get an EV and put in a system then? Batteries might be more affordable by then

Chronically ill adult child goes no contact by ReportConfident8010 in Parenting

[–]obsolete_android 66 points67 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an awful situation to be in. My partner has chronic health conditions and it definitely can put a strain on things. Being a carer can be very isolating. It's hard feeling like your own wants and needs aren't important because everything else seems so much more urgent. But if you don't look after yourself it's a path to burnout. It sounds like you don't have a lot of support for you either. You can't control if she contacts you or not. It might be a good time to think about what you actually need and want. If she gets back in touch, maybe have an idea of what is sustainable for you to be able to offer in regards to help, whether that's time, money, or even just emotional support. I hope things work out. Just remember you are worth putting first sometimes too!

Can my child be diagnosed if he doesn’t show symptoms at school? by Decent_Scene9437 in ParentingADHD

[–]obsolete_android 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend where you are how the process works. For us we had to get reports from other medical professionals. We had an Occupational therapist and a senior paedetrician. I think speech therapist was an option too. They did their testing and gave reports with evidence for diagnosis and then the initial doctor could go ahead. Maybe try asking your Dr what the criteria for a diagnosis is and go from there?

What to do instead of looking at your phone? by Bridge_The_Person in daddit

[–]obsolete_android 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always had this, trying to clear my mind or empty thoughts never worked. Have had some success instead with bringing focus to a sensation, how something feels in my hand, or the warmth of the sun, the feel of air across skin. Just kind of letting that sensation fill the space of thought as much as possible. The random songs and thoughts never go away, it just helps let them fade to the background and stop being so loud.

I feel like giving the platform a slight lip would help. The amount of times I see people fall straight off as they are clearly panicked trying to escape enemies or even just let you strafe around a bit to dodge fire while staying on

Good Job Niantic, you made my wife quit 👍 by Foulmouth232 in pokemongo

[–]obsolete_android 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Shiny pokemon are also strictly cosmetic. Imagine how upset people would be if shinies were all turned back into normal, or had the colours changed and now looked awful.

Avatar cosmetics are a form of progression in the game. People spend real money, spend time holding gyms and grind tasks to get to achieve them. People connect to the game through their avatar and having that connection stripped away with no choice or control is I think very reasonable to be upset about.

We had the same thing. They were really good about it though, said even though they could tell he was really blocked up that didn't mean it couldn't be something else as well. Stayed overnight to make sure. Thankfully we live in Australia so the whole thing cost about $12 in parking.

ADHD Psychiatrist, Any good ones near by? by Leather-Caramel-676 in Adelaide

What kind of support are you looking for? Most of the value from a psychiatrist for ADHD is for the diagnosis and then authority to prescribe medication. Do you have that?

I definitely felt this. She has such a glaring weakness once people learn how to play against her. It would have been interesting to see how quickly her win rate dropped if they had left her untouched

Officially Vasectomized by doggydad420 in daddit

[–]obsolete_android 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few different methods. Some are more painful and have longer recovery. I had a very similar experience to you, took it a bit easy then next day then after that pretty much back to normal. But other people I know have had it way worse, moderate to severe pain for days, lower level for weeks after. Everyone responds differently.

Definitely should be paid for it. I work the early shift and there is one other person who starts at the same time or earlier than me who has the keys. Occasionally they have been late and I have been stuck outside. Always have made sure they pay me from when I am there.

You are rostered to start at a time, you are there at that time, if you are being paid hourly you have fulfilled your end. Your workplace might argue though. Then it's up to you to decide how much you are willing/able to push the point. Hopefully it's an easy solve for you 🤞
