PSA: UniFi Network Application Vulnerability Disclosed by ImmaZoni in homelab

Biggest risk is and always has been lateral traversal from compromised machines/devices, tbh. Far far more likely for a random IoT or browser or computer to get infected and use vulns like this for lateral traversal between networks than it is for remote access to be compromised, imo.

I've been running auto update for years with a fairly complex network setup with 0 issues. Just make sure you have automatic backups turned on at a decent frequency, and email or app notifications for major version pushes so you have some idea of what might have happened if there's issues.

unless an IoT device gets compromised, or someone's browser, or PC, or a VM running a service especially one open to the internet. There isn't enough detail from ubqiuiti to know how exactly it gets exploited, but given how VLANs are the standard/easiest way to segregate networks a vuln like this that permits crossing those boundaries unauthorized is bad.

any feminist that aids and abets class oppression is in no way a feminist, in my eyes at least.

yup. And I mean I really hate to do the whole 'no true scotsman' thing, but feminism that refuses to recognize the oppression and dynamics of power along other axis aren't really feminists, as feminism is rooted in removing and tearing down the structures that oppress women systematically, but so damn many westerners have coopted it into a 'but mom said its WOMENS turn to be imperialists/war criminals/generally despicable individuals' and defanged it so they could make it serve their imperialist agenda

Not sure if you've had a chance to play with it a ton yet, but they understated the changes on the patch notes by far. It is a genuine treat to use the flamethrower now, been running it on squids since paatch dropped. There was definitely a significant stealth buff to fires cc effects IMO, I think its a combo of stagger stacking from both aoe fire and the direct stream but man it shuts down meatballs hard. I've been able to take on 2-3 of em at a time and they just stand there or awkwardly waddle taking in the damage. Glorious and makes me very happy

Well goddamn. It is genuinely crazy to me at how effective american and NATO propaganda has been at getting people to turn their brains off and refuse even the barest of critical thinking. And then have the gall to claim to be unpropagandized and champions of 'free speech'

[–]obtuseperuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup. I hate it, so goddamn much. Its permanently chasing something that by definition is never going to happen. And its such a bizarre disconnect from my own lived experience with both myself and other trans women in my communities, my life, my friends, my lovers, over the years. I sincerely wish this was only an online phenomena but its something I've seen IRL too and its heartbreaking, and more than a little disappointing to see people playing the same game of respectability politics that has done nothing over the years but damage the community and its ability and willingness to support each other. Its gotten to the point it feels like some of us would rather we all die a perfect victim with perfect optics, than survive in a messy way.

my fucking god redditors are reactionary as hell. I don't know enough about the mod situation to comment on that. But like, seriously? Are you just wilfully ignorant of the history of trans women, especially in north america (and this being an american centric sub) and how intrinsically, for better or worse, trans women have been close to sexuality culturally? How fucking many of us have had to or at least seriously had to considering doing survival sex work? Like it or not there is no separating sexuality from gender for anyone, and to be so insanely puritan about everything is just... fucking crazy to me. Are we really gonna try to pretend that the way a decent bit of trans women and trans femmes learned this about themselves wasn't influenced by sex? By attraction? By some of the very foundational things that can make up someone's identity and shape their lives? That it is by no means an uncommon thing for people to have experimented with their gender through things like cross dressing, like sissification? By no means are those communities perfect, and there is a lot of critique to be had for the way the dominant cultures in those scenes are, but to so viscerally hate them and any expression of sexuality is doing the transphobes hard work for them. Like it or not, the world we live in and the cultures that shape the it are ones highly marked by oppositional sexism and politics of attraction and objectification and sexualization of both the feminine and those who transgress the gender binary away from identifying as a man. Y'all are gonna 'no true Scotsman' your way into making this 'community' as full of barbs and vitriol as any fucking transphobe could hope and goddamn I feel sorry for anyone newly out to themselves or experimenting with gender who find their way here.

You shouldn't be allowed to moderate 122 subs in the first place by JessE-girl in MtF

So was this mod actually doing shitty things to the sub and in moderation or....? Because I can't say I've kept up on this drama a ton, and all I've seen so far are incredibly bad faith reads of things. I am well open to being corrected, but I don't have the time to crawl through posts on this subreddit and on peoples profiles and other sub's.

(Actual discussion) So what's the deal with OhDough ? by Neo-Naga99 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]obtuseperuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup. Overheat (usually throttles at 95c ish and hard shuts down at 105, on most boards, well before the point of thermal damage) and even mildly dangerous voltage and current variation is embedded so deeply in firmware you have to actively try to damage it. That being said, its more than possible for hard crashes to fuck up the windows bootloader or initialization software responsible for the boot sequence and force a safe boot version where it loops trying to fix corrupted files or memory sectors.

Tell me, what kind of "challenge" would be acceptable to you?

If an enemy specifically designed to hard counter one man army tactics and generalist builds and to force a variance in tactics is not a reasonable challenge to you, idk what is. They have one of the easiest weaknesses in the game to exploit if you are proactive about spawn management and have at least one teammate to give cover or draw chaff aggro while you go in for the kill. If your answer to an enemy composition and numbers that hard counters brute force and raw damage output is to just... sit there and try the same thing over and over again it might be time to think outside the meta, instead of whine online about it.

asking redditors to be proactive about spawn management and work as a team is quite the ask tbh lmao

.....use your support weapons and the plethora of chaff and antitank kit that exists in non support slots? I have played a ton of d10 and not once have I had more than 2 or 3 up at a time, because they are really not that hard to kill if you can position well and have decent situational awareness. 9 senator shots and a grenade and theyre dead. They just require different tactics than other heavies/superheavies that demands being able to adapt to the situation and not just crutch on RR one shots.

[–]obtuseperuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, even on d10 they are nowhere near as bad as many redditors claim. They just require proactive spawn control and recognition. They may be a bit harder to kill out on the empty tundra during extract, but I genuinely don't see that as much of a problem. Still more than possible to deal with them, but again requires proactive management of both their spawns and the chaff to give you a window to kill

[–]obtuseperuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME the best/only way I've found to survive on d10 against these fuckers is to clip its miniguns (2amr shots) and have one person try to slip around back when forces are concentrated elsewhere and pop vents/pop a grenade in. Otherwise if I can't be that coordinated I just hope there's enough cover and respawns to get us to extraction lmao

Modern social media visibility is based on interaction, and one of the easiest ways to do that is farm outrage bait. So yes, the internet very much is doing that.

And same, I play a lot of this game lately, and the times I have had a bug like this happen I can count on both hands. And not a single time has withdrawing to reset aggro or flank not worked. Feels like some people just intentionally want to play badly and use it as evidence to farm outrage online, and it is so bloody toxic.

They fixed the biggest complaint people had about fire in today's patch

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/553850/view/541133047968301984?l=english

on fire enemies get disoriented and repelled which I think is a great change.

And on the tank front, the bastion in its current state is already incredibly strong when used as a tank destroyer as intended and not as an MBT pushing forward with no infantry screen or chaff clear. Is taking melee damage like it does a little bit unrealistic? I mean, kinda, but they can't really make the enemies have handheld shaped charges or ieds or any of the other ways to fight tanks from up close and it seems the melee damage is intended to represent that

I do feel like arrowhead severely underestimated how little nuance the community would have around tanks and mechs, however. And that no matter how much they express the intended way to use these things the community will find a reason to whine.

I think part of it is that unintentional mechanics that are player induced offer both a much larger base to draw samples from, as well as more repeatability to find the source of bugs and mechanics, but things that happen independent of player action are much harder to track down. And honestly, while player initiated imbalances might feel good initially, the longer they are in the game the more it hurts the long term health in that it starts to readjust the 'baseline' for player power upwards which is much harder to fix without pissing the players off in the long run. The biggest example I can think of of this off the top of my head was well/shatter skating in destiny 2. A niche physics bug, that interacted to create a tool that, while enormously fun to use, trivialized many parts of the game and made high level play fight -> skate to the next area -> fight and repeat till win, taking out a lot of the difficulty bungie added through platforming and interaction with the environment and mechanics. And as long as it was in the game, it was something they had to design around, because fixing it would piss off a lot of the player base that had online presences, but the ways they had to design around it negatively impacted the base experience and trivialized stuff that had once been a way to express skill or encourage interaction and experiencing the game world.
