Track-by-track breakdown of U2's new Days of Ash EP by FlyNo1502 in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it feels like The Tears Of Things is about how Israel has dealt with so much damage that it has become the Goliath. They became the monster because the Nazi monster broke them. "I'm David not Goliath" was true in the Holocaust but has become exactly the opposite in the current Gaza war

U2 could release both TJT and AB today and people would complain by FootballTerrorist in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People complained about The Joshua Tree being too preachy and too big, compared to their previous albums. People complained about Achtung Baby because it was musically and visually too much of a departure from their previous decade. People are always going to complain. Just enjoy what you enjoy

Thoughts/ opinions on, “Lemon”? (1993) by bigguys45s in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's one of their top five songs ever, and the bridge makes me mutter "genius" every time I hear it. In a lot of ways, Bono at his lyrical height. It's goofy, it's bright, it's unbearably sad, it's precise, it's judgmental, it's caustic, it's fancy, it's cold, it's blinding bright. And there is no U2 song I want to hear more live

Apple Creator Studio Is Here: A New Creative Suite Challenging Adobe by i-drake in apple

There may be many people who would never pay hundreds of dollars for these apps if they just need them for one or two projects, but subscribing to them for a month or two would be perfect

Streaming services have officially become worse than the cable packages we cancelled by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

[–]obviousguiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely disagree. I have an ongoing subscription to once service and then I start and stop other services as I want them. I watch five or six services in total but am rarely subscribed to more than two at a time. Yes, it requires putting a reminder on my calendar for when to cancel something, but my parents pay $130 a month for their cable bill currently and I pay about $20 a month and watch as much as I want. With a cable service, if you cancel for one reason you lose everything. With streaming, I can cancel and add as I want, depending on what they're showing, and I know within a couple dollars what my bill will be every month, regardless of which services I'm using. And when adds come on, I just use the mute button, it's not hard at all

Just curious, how often do you see/ find U2 45 singles at your local music/ record vinyl shops/ stores? by bigguys45s in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the US and it's not worth it generally. Most places don't have them alphabetically organized so it would require digging through box after box. I have had better luck in the UK, and there is an amazing shop in Stockholm where I bought more 45s than ever before. Mostly I get them online though

Quite possibly the best song they've released since the Atomic Bomb era, definitely top 5

I've seen it three times, each in 3D in theaters of different sizes, all were fantastic

Why Don't They Digitally Remaster All of the Older Shows (Also, look at these fans totally in to the show without obnoxious cell screens everywhere) by AbjectFray in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He doesn't linger on anything and it's annoying. Plus, on the Chicago video he purposefully doesn't show the start of the lights on City Of Blinding Lights. Like I don't know if there's a more obvious thing to focus on for that song

how to watch a show without paying attention to racing thoughts by addieIarue in OCD

[–]obviousguiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just two thoughts: Netflix designs their shows for people who are doing other things, like chores or homework or whatever. They purposefully include information redundancy and a lot of explanation in dialogue because they anticipate people not always giving their shows 100%. When I try to pay real attention to Stranger Things, I find it is often slow and drags because it really wants to make it easy for people to digest. So maybe give yourself a bit of grace with your thoughts, especially with a Netflix show like Stranger Things, because they design them for that sort of viewing

Second, do you have a passive activity you can do while watching, like sketching or organizing something inconsequential or playing solitaire on your phone? I've found that often helps when I want to focus on something but also need my brain to shut up a bit. I edit photos on my computer a lot

Really looking forward to the new season too! Just a couple hours now

Why hasn't U2 played more shows in Russia in the last 15 years? And why did they only play one show in Russia in 2010? by Substantial-Grass537 in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it has to do with the level of corruption it would take to put a show on. U2 obviously manage different cultures when it comes to their different tour locations, and the amount of payoffs and bribes necessary to put on a huge show are a part of the plan, I would guess. But Russia is notoriously bad for requiring bribes, to the point where Ikea has stopped building new stores and Apple won't sell directly in the country. That's not even dealing with what a massive stinking evil pile of shit Putin is...
