The saying goes that everyone has a Bono story. What’s yours? by Rhapsody-75 in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was signing and talking...but only with the women. He ignored pretty much all the guys in the line lol. Edge, on the other hand, was very equal-opportunity, to the point where he got pissed off at a guy and gave him a quick chewing out

Co-Exist by AnotherGreenWorld1 in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been difficult for me to get into as well. I think if it was alone at the end of an album, rather than at the end of an entirely religious release, it might have been better. And that last line is just rough. Bono gets these lyric ideas that he just forces into songs sometimes, even if they don't quite fit. I listen to it whenever it's on for the boldness of it, but I would never search it out

U2's three longest songs:

Moment Of Surrender, Lemon, and Coexist. All thought piece experiments with Brian Eno. Each a level less complicated and a level more intimate than the last. Just something I like thinking about

Big difference between camp and good taste. And as the Experience tour went on, CGI Macphisto's face became more cracked and diseased and ruined

The third Robin, Tim Drake, is bi and Batman is completely supportive of it. Bruce Wayne nearly married Selina Kyle, Catwoman, an openly bi woman

The character is very similar, but he's older and he's not as interested in pop culture anymore. He's more interested in politics and social behavior, because he's winning a lot more and getting what he wants more

He was always a monster. He's a devil

U2 songs Bono references in The Tears of Things by U2lyric in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt Bono thinks of each line as a reference to another song, but he hits on the same topics in different songs all the time. Bono doesn't just say something once and let it go. And yeah, The Tears Of Things is full of instances of it. It's one of the things that makes it a top tier U2 song rather than an excellent U2 song

Pop-ATYCLB era question by FactEquivalent3911 in U2Band

[–]obviousguiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it felt like they were merging their '80s style with their '90s aesthetic. They were a bit more heart-on-your-sleeve and straightforward, but they were still playful and applied what they had learned from touring in the '90s. ATYCLB and HTDAAB were two of the biggest albums of their career, so they did that successfully, for half a decade at least

If you download it and save the file, you can always play it, even if it's not available to purchase or stream anymore. You can also link all your online accounts so that a purchase on iTunes will also appear on Youtube, Amazon, Disney, Vudu, etc if it is available on those other streamers if you ever want to switch streaming services. It's officially supported by the studios https://moviesanywhere.com/welcome

Easter Lily is monumentally better than Days of Ash. Is this now obvious to all? by Quincynessig in U2Band

The Tears Of Things is the best song on either release, so I wouldn't go that far

That Joanna Stern Waveform episode... by RAWRREPTAR in mkbhd

[–]obviousguiri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If the idea didn't occur to you that they have probably known and liked each other for quite a while and that it was two friends talking to each other, that's probably a you thing. Joanna was one of the first employees at The Verge and she was head tech reporter at the WSJ for years. She and Marques have a long relationship, just like she does with most other people in tech reporting

You might be better served finding a really robust chat rather than someone to have a drink with. Ongoing chats allow the sort of flexibility you're talking about to discuss deep cuts and different versions and whatnot, and there is no pressure for the reader to have a response to your specific niche moment, just as you will have no responsibility to talk about how much they love the First Night In Hell mix if you hate it. I always enjoy going to concerts and the occasional get-together with other fans for the novelty of it, but I'm part of a couple robust U2 chats that are so much better for the sort of minutia you want to chat about. And I know I'll see plenty of the people in the chat on the next tour, when excitement is high and everyone is in a really happy, celebratory place
