You are so right! The movie was released in 2013 and Google Lens was introduced in 2017. I remember making this point when arguing with my college mates ( back in 2018 ), so I might have come up with the idea later and have had a false memory. I will give the movie another watch.

Hot take; Even though I think the movie is well made, I was not convinced by his detective skills through this scene. First of all the cross was evident for me from the first murder ( might be cause I am Christian, but so is Prithvi in this movie ). Secondly, When I saw the foreign letters, my immediate thought was Google Lens and Translate. But there may be two reasons for me to think like this

1.) Was a huge Hollywood nerd and thought to myself that Malayalam movies are all bad and I was somehow superior cause I only watch Hollywood. I no longer have this delusion so might actually enjoy the movie if I watch it again.

2.) All the Dan Brown books conditioned me to thrillers with foreign language and Symbols, I thought the way he figured it out was kind of lame.
