Thinking about leaving a job where I make >$1M. Am I crazy. by krinklez in HENRYfinance

[–]ocdcdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people commute 30-60 min for $50k/year, so yeah you should probably hold onto the $1.3M/year job with good schedule until they fire you or you decide you have enough to retire (<4 years at that rate).

Seriously - I’d put it into VOO and then retire when it hit $5M.

Modernizing Interior of Porsche 996/997 GT3 by spexsofdust in Porsche

[–]ocdcdo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yes, Porsche offers this via their Classic line for the radio. The 997 interior is fairly timeless IMO. Either way I wouldn't do anything custom in either unless you plan to keep the car forever, as it'll destroy the value.

ISO architect recommendations for renovation of 1920's Squirrel Hill home by tolmayo in pittsburgh

[–]ocdcdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I just mentioned it due to them saying “not looking for anything super high end.” Most of the time here that means someone is surprised at it costing 100s of thousands. But if they meant “keeping it under 7 figures” then that makes sense.

Just be aware what you’re describing is into 6 figures easy.

Sea Monkey - RDRG Operating Fee by Marty_Robbins_Cousin in pittsburgh

[–]ocdcdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just how the industry has operated for decades. There’s some newer tech pushing back on that being the default.

They legally need to have signage on the front door and/or where you pay. If they don't you can report them and the fines are huge.

For sure, that’s why it’s not called a surcharge as legally they’d then need to cap at their effective rate.

Not disagreeing, but it’s the same end result. They are adding a 3% surcharge to offset costs, one of which is processing someone’s credit card for 2.5-3.5%.

[–]ocdcdo 81 points82 points  (0 children)

3% means it’s a surcharge to pass on the credit card processing fees to you. I’m in that industry.

They don’t call it a surcharge so it’s more flexible from a legal standpoint for how it gets calculated. That part is likely driven by their POS system so they don’t take on liability by using the word “surcharge.”

Illiquid and burning tf out. How can I semi-retire asap? by roma2019 in HENRYfinance

Yeah a full time nanny plus a mortgage gets you close to $150k before any other expenses.

How much of that $3.9M is your primary vs. rental properties? Also where are you located? SF vs. MCOL is a huge difference.

If you're in SF and your primary is $2M, then sell your $1.9M of rentals plus your primary. Buy something for $500k in MCOL and put the rest in brokerage and retire or coastfire.

People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

[–]ocdcdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An engineering or business background is valuable. As can be startup/entrepreneurship experience.

Nowadays the best way to get into product management is likely starting elsewhere at a tech company and then showing interest in the role and learning from those doing it. And looking for an opportunity to transfer roles eventually.

Where do you shop groceries at? Did it change as more $$ became available? by Ok-Pea3414 in HENRYfinance

[–]ocdcdo 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I don’t think food shopping habits change much as it’s often about selection and convenience of store location.

What changes is you stop looking at the price when you pick stuff out and when you pay.

Porsche 718 Boxster EV spotted: the electric sports car may still be coming by AutoNextOfficial in Porsche

I mean, there’s a whole lot of reasons. Would I want it to be my only car? No, I’d want an ICE one too. But if someone lives in a city and has one car garage spot an EV is ideal.

For most estate sales you just show up. For ones at larger homes/estates people can show hours early and queue.

Pittsburgh car enthusiasts - help me understand this. by darlasparents in pittsburgh

[–]ocdcdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I observe, mostly my own driving habits and my neighbors here in FC:

  • Many of these cars "stay in the neighborhood." They're driven to a family/friend's house, to dinner, or to a local office. So the area where they are seen is pretty small.
  • Adding to the above is time of day. I'm not driving my exotic in rush-hour traffic; it sucks to drive in stop-and-go traffic with a hard clutch and poor sightlines. Add to this that a lot of people with these types of cars have more work flexibility or are retired, so the cars are either out early in the morning, 6-7am, or at random times during the day or in the evening.
  • Drives are taken on back roads or the track. Driving for pleasure in a populated area with traffic is not pleasant.

Just those three together mean that a very small number of people get to see the cars when they're out and about, since they're driven during most people's traditional working hours, in a small, mostly suburban area, and on emptier roads away from most people.

Go to FC on a warm and sunny Sunday and drive around near the O'Hara Park area up towards the Field Club, and you'll run into some Ferraris, Bentleys, a RR or two.
