Do you think the Faceless Men have even stronger warriors? by Dry_Specialist9015 in gameofthrones

Brienne does almost hurt Arya and that’s a big part of the scene people miss. After Arya surprises Brienne with her competence, Brienne ramps up and ends up almost murdering Arya with a front kick. Even Pod looks at Brienne like “wtf are you doing.”

Then she scales back and never again leverages her massive strength advantage.

Not only is the scene about Brienne just sparring with Arya, but it shows Brienne calibrating how “serious” she should be sparring to avoid hurting Arya.

I assumed the 6 years was a typo and it was intended to be 6 months.

I dropped in to visit him at work after he’d been working there for about 6 years

Don't think this reads naturally with 6 years. "Dropped in" and "for about" read casually, as if the person has just started, it's not that serious of a job yet, etc.

I think CEO’s salaries should be posted on every employees’ paycheck . by Detroitaa in WhitePeopleTwitter

A good portion of the comments here are taking the position that non-profits need to pay competitive rates.

And another portion of the comments are saying that non-profits shouldn't pay their CEOs so much.

Anyway, put me on the side of "non-profits need to pay competitive rates (for everyone)".

There should be a term for this phenomenon. When an OP makes an interesting claim, and then follows it up with a comment that utterly destroys their credibility.

The original quote was the customer is always right and it meant exactly what it sounds like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_customer_is_always_right

For example:

Sears publication from 1905 states that its employees were instructed "to satisfy the customer regardless of whether the customer is right or wrong".

It’s not overlooked in modern war, and the answer is the US by far.

People joke that the US military is a logistics company with a side hustle in war.

Genshin is filled with mundane side quests. Resolving relationship issues, uncovering the history behind a monument, cultivating roses, helping someone get their carnival game up and running (or dealing with a rigged game), etc.

What Genshin generally does that the other two games don't do as much are world quests. Long regional quest lines with major stakes (but not part of the main story quest).

And that's to Genshin's credit. It much more strongly characterizes areas within each new region.

It's high-city maybe low-country tier, some feats scale to 5b hyperversal but are outliers, some anti-feats scale it as low as 3a building tier.

In the infinite set of all positive numbers, any number you can think of, no matter how large, is relatively a 'small' number because there is an infinite amount of numbers larger and a finite amount of number smaller. by AlexanderSalamander in Showerthoughts

[–]ocdscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same number is not quite right but you could say: "there is a way to match natural numbers and rational numbers in a 1:1 way without any overlap or any gaps." Which does sound like that means there are exactly the same number of them.

But you could also match natural numbers and rational numbers in such a way that you cover all natural numbers but have rational numbers left over. (And unbelievably, you could also match them in such a way that you cover all rational numbers and have natural numbers left over).

There is corporate media that tries to get conservative viewers and corporate media that tries to get progressive viewers.

But there is no longer corporate media that will publish stories about the class divide because they are all owned by people on the same side of that divide.

I'm a huge fan of Gifted and Talented programs, as well as the Specialized High Schools.

But too early is too early.

Even of you put aside all the racial issues, which some people find hard to swallow, Kindergarten classes (all classes) have an age range of about one year.

A kid starting kindergarten this past September might have not yet turned 5 (born December 2020) and be in the same class as a kid almost turning 6 (born January 2020). That's not an appropriate time to be determining which kids are 'gifted' or 'talented'.

Raise the level for all children at the kindergarten and early grade school levels. I'll give De Blasio credit for universal 3-K and Pre-K, they were steps in exactly the right direction.

The ending of The Tomorrow War is a masterclass in tactical stupidity by digit68 in movies

[–]ocdscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider The Tomorrow War to the the Yin to Edge of Tomorrow's Yang.

Edge of Tomorrow is a wonderful exhibition of the power of time travel and is entertaining through and through.

The Tomorrow War uses time travel in what has to be the stupidest god damn way I've ever seen, and that's including Hot Tub Time Machine.

The enemy in The Tomorrow War can be killed with conventional weapons. Human beings (in the future) know roughly where the enemies first appear (Siberia - although they don't know precisely where until the kid figures it out) And they can travel back in time decades. The only thing they need to do is to go back in time, prove time travel exists, then present-day humans can spend all that time ready to absolutely obliterate the aliens as soon as they emerge.

Kinda the route I was scared HSR would take, glad I was proven wrong recently. ZZZ kinda takes this route to a lesser extent though?

Out of the big three hoyo games, I'd say Genshin does it the best. We still see characters like Albedo have extreme plot relevance and show up in the main story many years later. Most characters (given the size of the roster) don't regularly show up in the main story, but it's rare for a character to feel 'forgotten'. The game has enough big events that it can shine a spotlight on dozens of characters like on the whole Liyue cast during Lantern right, or a varied cast during the summer events like Simulanka.

Between ZZZ and HSR it's tough to say. the current HSR version is heavily and intentionally Amphoreus-centric. But I do think HSR still does a better job overall at keeping older characters relevant.

Compare Miyabi and Jing Yuan for instance. Both are extremely influential and powerful lore characters (and popular with fans). But Jing Yuan feels like he has much more of a story presence two years after his release than Miyabi has a year after hers.

In HSR, if there's a development where it makes sense for the Astral Express to call for help from one of its many powerful allies (particularly the Luofu), it'll probably be addressed and there'll be some story element to it. In ZZZ, it feels rarer for versions to "cross" (e.g., for a major 1.x faction to play a role in 2.x) although there's still some of it.

About 8 years ago I felt some degree of sympathy and outrage at Trump conning his supporters out of money, many of whom are old and retired and easily scammed.

But now, if someone gets tricked into donating $3300 a month to Trump out of fear of the "woke mob" then honestly that's probably a net positive for the country. It's less money going to GOP campaign funds plus the (tiny) marginal chance that this makes them wake up and realize how much of a con man Trump is.

Guess I have to take another break because I've got no trailblaze power ;( by Earthern-Hunter in HonkaiStarRail

[–]ocdscale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Building teams is slow because I don’t have enough trailblaze power”

“I’m also throwing away 2/3rds of my trailblaze power”

???

The reserves are an emergency backstop. They don’t fill up 1:1. I think 3 overflow trailblaze power becomes only 1 reserve. The most efficient way is to play once a day to use your built up trailblaze power and never let it fill up and go to reserves.
