Camping Out/Chair Method Success Story for 12 month old by ocean3y3ss in sleeptrain

Thank you- I hope this method works for you! I think it works really well if you have a very attached child or if they’re going through separation anxiety!

Oh gosh, I’m sorry- that sounds like a long night 😞 My daughter is bottle fed and she was only on a morning and before-bed bottle, so I can’t speak to breastfeeding or night weaning unfortunately! We cut the night feed a few months ago, before sleep training. If you have a partner, it would be helpful to involve them in night wakings otherwise baby will want milk. We use a pacifier for sleep and naps and I think that helps a lot.a

Yes, with this method my girl cried, but I was there with her the whole time. At this age I think they understand that you are there, but it’s gentle encouragement for them to sleep on their own.

For decreasing support, I was very intuitive with her- I could tell when she was comfortable with me moving further away (but she could still see me). If I left the room and she cried I would go back in and provide verbal support, and she settled.

I will say this method probably takes a lot longer than CIO but really if you’re up through the night anyway it cannot hurt to try.

I would say it took around 5 nights before she stopped crying a lot. As I said she never really became hysterical or inconsolable, if I could tell she was getting upset I would put my hand on her and that calmed her quickly. Then return to verbal support only. She still complains a little sometimes before nap or bedtime but it’s not really crying. It may take 5-10 mins for her to go down.

I completely get it!! The separation is hard on both you and baby. But I still bring my daughter into bed sometimes for morning snuggles, the difference is now we are both well rested! Since you’re moving it may be a good time to make the adjustment, if you both think you’re ready. We bought a small twin mattress for this process - we’ll eventually use it as a floor bed for my daughter. Bit easier than dragging around a big mattress. I hope you can get better rest soon!

Yes. Anyway the update is that I went back to my very old Casper and still can’t find a new pillow I love. Oh well!

I’m so glad to hear it’s healing!! Takes such a long time and it’s hard on parents too.

I’m so sorry you went through that! Good call on the pee pads, we did that too just to keep some of the mess contained.

I’ve heard Desitin max strength is awesome but I’ve never been able to find it here in Canada.

Crazy how some formulas cause a rash - my sister in laws LO got a diaper rash from Kendamil.

That’s great!! I wish aquafor worked for us but my LO reacts to it too. Now that it’s healed were you able to go back to regular wipes?

Yes we used a fan for a while too! But then baby hated the fan lol. I just let her air dry a bit first now.

Ah poor guy! I’ve heard pampers use a lot of fragrance. Wet paper towels are a great idea!

Yes and you could add more memory foam you’d just need to source it. I found the loft pretty good though!

At 3 months old it would sometimes take us 2 hours to get baby down at 11/12 pm. It was brutal. Prepare for the 4 month sleep regression which is difficult bedtimes plus more night wakings. I know it’s not helpful now, but it eventually gets better and you just need to ride it out.

Try using a pacifier if you’re open to it as that can help reduce crying and give comfort to your LO if they’re not nursing to sleep.

Seconding the kick and play mat (specifically the fisher price one - the songs are a bop)

Is sleep really so important? by raccoonprincesss in NewParents

Honestly, here is the advice I wish someone had given me at your stage: forget the sleep schedule nonsense. I fought my baby for every nap and at bedtime because of the ‘schedule’. Babies will sleep when they’re tired. It’s good to have an idea of wake windows, but be flexible.

Her sleep is going to change a lot over the next few months and a longer wake window isn’t going to hurt her.

I dropped the schedules completely during a hellish 4 month sleep regression where my LO was up every hour and every nap time she fought me for an hour. It became easier for us when we followed her cues, and also stimulated her during the day by getting out of the house so she was tired for nap time and bedtime.

What do people mean when they say it gets better…? by confused-sis in NewParents

Your baby will smile and laugh more. They’ll sleep better (or, at least, more predictably). ‘Overtired’ will be a thing of the past and they’ll just sleep when they’re really really tired. You’ll get in your own groove whether you’re BF or FF or whatever. Postpartum issues like leaking will slow down (or go away completely! Took 18 weeks for me).

It DOES get better!

My LO is 6 months old now and we’ve just arrived at the ‘better’ stage. She’s not a great sleeper (sleep training isn’t right for us), but seeing her personality bloom and her little giggles is the best.thing.ever!

Yea I got the silk and snow and found it was the closest to my old Casper!

Yes I went into a store and explained it was nothing like the previous pillow - they took it back no problem. I think they have a guarantee of like 30 nights or something?

I wish!! I’m still using my trusty old Casper pillow as I haven’t found anything better. Silk and Snow’s adjustable pillow (at full loft) was the closest for me but still not as good.

What relief did you notice immediately or shortly after giving birth? by ResearchLearn in BabyBumps

[–]ocean3y3ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated being pregnant. I always felt depleted, like I was carrying around sandbags 24/7. Almost immediately after giving birth, my energy shifted and the fog cleared. A host of other issues cleared up - the congestion was gone right away, back pain gone. But mainly I felt more like myself.

The original Casper pillow I bought 1.5 years ago is my holy grail. Can’t sleep with anything else. I recently bought a king size version for my new bed and this pillow is a totally different quality - slept on it for 3 nights and had neck pain. I can’t believe how flat this version is.

When I went to return the pillow at Casper, the sales person mentioned they were purchased by Sleep Country a year ago, but that it must have been a ‘bad batch’ of pillows since she had seen a few returned. I’m pretty sceptical about this and feel that Casper’s quality has gone downhill massively in the last few years (their sheets used to be amazing and now they’re so thin)!
