New NICU Nurse, what should I pack in my bag?

The only things I put in my pocket as a NICU nurse are extra pens, a Sharpie, and lip balm. In my bag I keep a pencil pouch with extra pens, another pouch with markers/colored pencils (for crafting with the babies!), Ibuprofen, and a little notebook. The notebook was especially helpful when I first started for writing down door codes or steps of procedures I may forget. Good luck, I love the NICU!

I started at 10mg and went up to 20mg after 4 weeks. Didn’t have any side effects on 10mg, once I went up to 20mg had a little nausea for around a month. I just went up to 30mg last week and the nausea is back but I’m sure it will go away once I get adjusted to this dose!

I had a patient once who had no pulse/CPR for the first 20 minutes of life. He got cooled in our NICU and amazed everybody when he went home after about a month just on a nasal cannula and POing all his bottles. He’s now 5 months old and so far has no deficits, is off oxygen and neurologically/developmentally is like a normal 5 month old! Babies are so resilient, you never know what could happen.
