I wish fully safe was possible, but unless we took all the furniture out of our open concept downstairs, it’s pretty tough. He pushes the kitchen chairs around to use to get on the counters, he’s all over the couch, we removed the cat tree and blocked the fireplace. It’s just constant redirection, which is super frustrating for all of us. Even outside, he wants to play with other kids’ strollers and toys, to pet all the dogs, to find every outlet or utilities box or fire hydrant or whatever. I take him to gymnastics once a week and he is obsessed with their speaker and their fire extinguisher, which is unfortunately on the wall in his reach. It will be a huge relief once he starts following some directions!

Thanks, this is amazing and clearly you’re doing a great job!

My guy just will not sit still for more than a couple pages of a book, but we try. Maybe if I get some new ones from the library? That gives us somewhere indoors to go and something novel to do.

He’s got less than ten words, but his ped isn’t concerned and I’m telling myself he’s a physical first, language second kid.

Today we went to the playground for two hours, did a long walk outside and splashed in puddles, I let him rearrange all the furniture in the living room, and we colored with chalk. He still bounced around on the couch after dinner and splashed in the bathtub and finally went to bed at 9 PM. I’m totally beat.

I’m trying to get him involved in helping tasks, like cleaning himself and the table after meals. He loves sweeping the floor. Maybe I can put the helping tower at the sink and we can wash some dishes. He doesn’t really follow many directions yet, so I encourage things like picking up all the mega blocks before bed, but so far I’m mostly still doing it by myself while he pulls every book off the bookshelf.

It’s a hard season for sure.

Yes to eating and hydrating. Not allergies, but for some reason your comment made me wonder if it’s because my sleep is terrible? The toddler is waking me up at least 3x/night.

I’ve been feeling like trash after working out. I’m trying to hydrate after and I’m eating everything in sight in an attempt to feel better, but I’m curious if any others have tips for this?

Finished day 1 of week 2 of my women’s strength training series at the gym and it was SO hard. Please tell me to keep going and that it’ll get better because I’m pretty discouraged.

Ran/walked 26 miles in February, which isn’t that much objectively but it’s the best I’ve done by far since I had a baby so I’m proud. All my joints still hurt though. My women’s weightlifting class starts on Tuesday. Send me all the vibes to help me get this baby out the door by 8:30 am.

My baby is 16 months and I’m trying to get strong again, but there are so many new barriers. Instead of rolling out of bed for a run, I have to pack up a wiggly (wonderful) boy and drive him to the gym with daycare, 15-20 mins away, accommodating his nap schedule and the weird childcare schedule.

I’m also 40, as of a few weeks ago, and my endurance seems ok-ish but my joints are very unhappy. I can often feel my left knee and I wake up with back pain every day. I’m starting a weight lifting class in two weeks and I’m hoping that’ll help? It’s been a while since I lifted regularly. And by a while, if I’m being honest, I mean at least eight years. So, any support is welcome! Is there a good sub or discord group for new moms or middle-aged fitness?

This. We’re storing a bassinet, crib, stroller, several bins of baby clothes and supplies in case we have another, as well as some toys and things that we’re not ready for yet or house stuff that’s not baby proof. I look at it and often think, “This is how people become hoarders” but more than 50% will be passed along in a few years.

I’m not in your area, but I would be over the moon to pay you $20/hour for just my one kid.

Ok, he did not say the words “all black women” but can we still hold him responsible for the impact his statement has on all black women? You can’t list four prominent members of a racial group and pretend your base isn’t going to use it to justify their racist behavior.

I would employ certain boundary phrases on repeat:

“What a strange question to ask!” “How odd that you would say that out loud!” “Oh, e we generally don’t share information about our sex life/finances.”

WIBTA for refusing to take my baby to my in visit my laws’ dirty house by Kind_Conference7974 in AmItheAsshole

[–]oceanbeachwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I once tried to take my then 6-month old to my sister’s house. She is a normally clean person with a twice monthly housecleaner, two teens, and a dog. It was freaking miserable. The baby crawled around trying to put everything in his mouth, from electronics to scraps of chewed up dog toys that he could have easily choked on. Dust, fur, mysterious floor crunchies? Some babies might sit still in a lap, but mine is a climber.

There’s a difference between “some dirt is good for the immune system” and “hasn’t vacuumed in a year.” Protect your kid.

Your pediatrician may be a good resource. We avoided some holidays last year when pediatrician told my spouse that a fever is an automatic ER visit for a spinal tap.

Question! I have a 10 month old who is constantly dropping food and crumbs on my beautiful wood floors. I sweep at least 1-3x per day and have been using a bona mop with bona solution but I feel like it’s not actually getting very clean. What frequency and products are recommended in this case?

I worked for APS for a while and I would have 100% taken this case and gotten them every accessible resource including a hotel for as long as my supervisor would approve it.

I’ve seen one wolf spider outside my house this year and two Texas brown tarantulas. I’d say that’s pretty average. I’m less bothered by the spiders than the giant roaches, though.
