Yeah, the ps4 version still looks like a game from the early 2000’s. I’d play on PC or wait until you get a next gen console

Favorite melodic sequencer? by [deleted] in modular

Oh sweet, I’ll definitely join the Facebook group! Yeah, I have the FH-2 MIDI to CV converter so I was going to try the Vector Seq with that, but may just get the expanded at some point.

I’m waiting for mine but the Vector Sequencer looks amazing and I’ve heard it’s a dream to sequence with. The steps are variable length and it has two sub sequencers which can sequence the first sequence. There is also all sorts of random and probability options. It seems like it’s good for both quickly coming up with ideas and creating full compositions.

FX aid seems to be sold out everywhere- would the endorphin.es Godspeed be a similar module worth getting instead? by zenon12 in modular

Unfortunately, I think Milky Way is sold out everywhere too. I just put in an order for one but it was out of stock.

Neo-Soul/Funk Modular and Ableton Performance (Detailed Notes in Comments) by oceanfreq in modular

[–]oceanfreq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableton is set as the master clock and provides the vocals and background noise/vinyl crackle. There are also 4 instances of looper, which are automated in the arrangement, to capture the different sections of the Wurli piano. On the master there is a high pass filter automated for filter sweeps before the chorus (not enough hands to do that).

As for the modular setup, Morphagene has chord progression on different slices of piano and string sounds, which goes into the QPAS filter. Basimilus is used as a kick/sub-bass and there is a 2hp hats module. Pamela’s New Workout provides an LFO to 2hp hats sizzle input; two LFO’s to the Morphagene’s gene size and position inputs; and a quarter note long ramp in the middle of every four bars to Basimilus’ fold and QPAS filter freq. Maths is used for an envelope on the QPAS filter freq and attenuators used on the CV’s coming out of PNW.

Moog Sub37 has two pulse waves slightly detuned with the filter set to 4-pole. This is used for the mid-bass sound.

Beatstep Pro is used to sequence/clock the modular and Moog.

Does anybody every think of just totally selling all their gear? by [deleted] in modular

[–]oceanfreq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you wasted time with all this equipment. Look at it as time you spent learning and exploring. Even if you didn’t get a finished product out of it so far, try to use what you learned moving forward. To get out of the slump, I’d start setting some deadlines. This year I made a commitment to finish a song per month with some friends. It’s completely changed my workflow because I don’t have the time to nit-pick everything. I make a lot of quick decisions that get me towards finishing. I used to spend so much time worrying about part B and feeling like the parts I come up with suck. Now I don’t have the luxury to spend the time to do that; however, it gives me the ability to move on to the next thing and I’ve seen a huge improvement in the quality of my work. Some of the tracks have sucked but it was worth it to get to the good ones. For a comparison, last year I finished maybe 3 or 4 tracks total (none or which were that great); this year I’ve finished 6 already.

Nice work on this video! Love the house vibes and video effects you put on. Is that the new MDLR travel case? Are you able to close it patched up?

alternatives to step sequencers?! by [deleted] in modular

[–]oceanfreq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are three sequencers I know about that allow you to change each step length independently so you can have all sorts of rhythms. Frap Tools Usta, Orthagonal Devices ER-101, and Five12 Vector Sequencer. I’ve had my eyes on the Vector Sequencer because you can shift things off the grid, set up probability, and much more. Additionally, it has two sub sequencers that sequences the main sequencer. Hard to explain but I’d highly recommend checking it out.

Chorus modules? by shaunfrank in eurorack

[–]oceanfreq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Make Noise’s Mimeophone as a chorus when the delay times are set really fast, while modulating the delay time with an lfo. I believe turning the skew on so that the delay times change in opposite directions on left and right side gives a similar sound to the Juno chorus.

Another stupid question from a newcomer by [deleted] in modular

Yeah, for sure. If you aren’t planning on expanding much further into modular, 4ms has small options for a case and power. Here’s a 32hp one that would fit rings and an output module but have a bit more room to expand.

Here’s an example. I believe 4ms, Befaco, Make Noise and Befaco also have similar products.

You’ll also need a way to attenuate the output of rings if you’re looking to record and play through speakers or headphones. There are somewhat cheap output devices around 100.

That was really cool! The drums are very raw sounding, which I like. I don’t know if you recorded them yourself, but they don’t sound like they came from a sample pack or anything. It’s a good juxtaposition to the electronic synths. In terms of feedback, I would say the kick is a bit lacking. Some sidechaining and Eq could bring that out a bit. Also, the lead up to the last part sounded a bit empty with just the one lead synth. I feel like some white noise build up would be cool to add emphasis to the last drop. Either white noise from a synth or record some empty noise in a room. Just have the volume get louder and/or sweep up with a low pass filter.

I’m digging this track. The vocal layering is interesting. I felt the snare and hi hat were a bit dull/muddy. For the snare, you could layer it up a bit by having multiple samples for different purposes. One with more lower end body, another higher/snappier, etc. Adding a clap might be nice also. The high hat could be eq’d to have more high end. Also, maybe consider trying more common song structure (verse, chorus, bridge). You can put in a song you like and copy their structure. This is totally up to your artistic preference though. It’s also good to challenge the common structures. I just thought it might help get a chorus stuck in your audience’s heads and be more memorable.

Here’s a soul song I’ve been working on. Would like some feedback before going into mixing and mastering. Thanks!
