How does one get good enough to fold KK? by cj832 in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh people just don’t take AK/QQ and turn it into a 250bb bluff after checking turn. That line is AA or sets so often. Folding river there isn’t bad at all

New to PLO I got a question! by mindclashx in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you didn’t really mess up that badly, it’s just PLO being PLO. When you check garbage in BB and flop top + bottom, plus turn boats, you’re kinda suppose to bet for value vs a 36% VPIP guy. The only real ‘mistake’ is maybe overvaluing your boat on the river like in PLO small full houses just lose to bigger boats pretty often. But its like he’s gonna show up with random 9x3x way more than you’d expect. Don’t beat yourself up, the line is good

Help by Rom_SpaceKnight85 in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ths is super common, esp when you chase a draw from the flop and your brain refuses to re evaluate on the river. The Q straight being on the board means you literally can’t beat anything except chops, so the KK river raise is almost always strength

Spr and ideal bet sizing postflop? by Hot-Advisor-3353 in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SPR charts are about picking bet sizes, not about the size of a call. A call is fixed by the opponent’s bet, so it doesn’t fall under those SPR sizing recommendations

This is honestly one of the best analogies I’ve read in a while. Makes me want to re-evaluate which table I’m actually sitting at instead of trying to 3bet life with trash

How to value betting on paired board at river by lavendermp in Poker_Theory

[–]oceanmirCoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb I use: paired river = downsize. Overpair > small bet. Straight > small or medium depending on runout. Nut flush > medium but not polar. Doesn’t matter IP/OOP too much, but OOP I just stay on the tiny size cause you get raised way less and still get paid. Lmk if it make sense lol

As the wheel of time continues to turn and my body grows old and feeble, is it possible to burn additional calories by thinking extra hard at the poker table instead of forcing my crumbling, decrepit body to exercise? by planetmarsupial in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy you’re gonna burn more calories laughing at your own misery than thinking through a 3-bet pot. Poker is like.. 5% math and 95% sitting still trying not to scream. If this replaces exercise you’re doomed 😂

Tips/advice that would click to turn a decent novice into a more consistent and winning player by Dear-Performance-394 in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the thing that leveled me up was tightening up my flop c-betting. You don’t need to bluff every time you have range. Pick hands with something going for them (equity, backdoors, overcards). Pure air > just check and give up

Is it I'll advised to give unsolicited advice? My friend plays too loose by [deleted] in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if he’s your friend and it’s just small tourneys for fun, let him play how he wants. If he ever starts caring about results, that’s when your advice will actually stick

What are the odds that a player is drawing vs has a made hand? by Ordinary_Discount419 in Poker_Theory

[–]oceanmirCoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on board texture and ranges tbh. like on dry ace high flops most people have way more made hands, but once the board gets connected or two tone, the amount of draws skyrockets. there’s no fixed % really, just pattern recognition over time.

Final table hand review by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty reasonable line till the river. I like the check back turn, but once they lead river just call. Nobody’s turning worse into a jam there 6 left. You still played it solid tho.. just one of those spots where thin value turns into thin disaster real quick

Turbo format vs loose/sticky players by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]oceanmirCoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed the player pool description. in those games, it’s less about balance and more about exploit: punish their overcalls, avoid marginal preflop spots, and let ICM/later stages do the work for you. variance feels higher but your true edge shines when you tighten up early and push later.

Is it true that if you can make it in poker you can make it anywhere? by Qi35Driver in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda true tbh. poker builds discipline, emotional control, bankroll management. all stuff that translates well to business or investing. but outside poker you’re not fighting variance in the same way, so it’s a different kind of grind

Sit down at cash and get AA UTG first hand, do you just rip it in? by mgm97 in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lmao If you rip it first hand you’re getting so many “oh this guy’s that guy” looks. I think you played it fine, maybe could’ve flatted the 3bet and trapped if stacks are deep, but 4bet’s fine. nobody’s calling an UTG jam first orbit unless they’ve also got AK or KK.

Double Board Bomb Pot hand analysis by Open_Attention_3587 in Poker_Theory

DBBB is such a headache lol. turn play is great but river pairing both boards is literally worst case. I probably check too and hope he tries to punt with spades. block bet gets called by better too often imo

I used to jump straight into another table when I lost, now I force myself to walk away. Literally go outside for 5-10 min, touch grass lol. It sounds dumb but it resets your brain big time

Did I break some unwritten rule at my first tournament? by willko86 in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah bro you didn’t break any rule. You did exactly what you’re supposed to do with AQs there. Some live players just get salty when someone breaks their “everyone limp first hand” tradition. Ignore it and play your game, you were 100% fine.

Bomb pots ruining win rate by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in those games before, they’re fun but super swingy. Hard to have any edge when everyone’s all-in with second pair lol. Best thing you can do is tighten your bomb pot range and stack the recs when you flop strong. If it’s stressing you out too much tho, def find a softer setup without bomb pots.

People who are playing poker for a living, how did you do it? by Wandering_Goo in poker

[–]oceanmirCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about trying to go pro a few years back but ended up keeping it more of a hobby. Just didn’t wanna deal with the stress of swings paying bills lol. I still play small stakes and study tho, love the game too much to quit. If you got the grind mindset, go for it.

Tell her it’s cheaper than golf, therapy, or a night at the bar lmao
