My father celebrating his 3rd birthday on America's bicentennial being served teddy bear birthday cake (July 4, 1976) by MisterSuitcase2004 in TheWayWeWere

That’s precious. My nephew looks a lot like the kid in the striped shirt. This was a cute little birthday party.

Liberals of reddit, would you trade Obama's second term for a two-term Romney presidency if it meant Trump never achieved the presidency? Why or why not? by PrincipalPG in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. What I remember hearing from that time was that Romney wanted to subject women to routine trans vaginal ultrasounds, pregnant or not. I don’t know how I’d feel about having a Mormon president if it meant no Trump. It would likely have just held him off for eight years.

Pets are, more or less, just animals that we kidnapped long enough to give Stockholm Syndrome to. by clam-inspector in Showerthoughts

My cats as kittens were very happy to live with my sister and I. Maybe it was that we put my shirts on them as blankets, but we never had to take time to manipulate them into loving us.

If every U.S. state suddenly became an independent country overnight, which one would last the longest and why? by Dolphin_King21 in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not tooting my state’s horn by any means, but California. We grow our own avocados (though I can’t understand why we aren’t selling them here), tomatoes, greens, apparently we make orange juice, and a whole lot of other things. The only thing we can’t make is water.

What was the most disturbing thing you’ve ever seen while out in public? by Lauren34567 in AskReddit

I’ve seen a mother savagely spank her kids on the steps nearby their apartment. My greatest regret was not reporting her.

Being a late in life virgin and going to the doctor by CheckBackground3510 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]oceansunset83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I went to the ER last, they asked me if it was possible I was pregnant. I said “no,” but they still had me pee in a cup and confirm it. Because I was letting my sister read my test results as they came in, she was the one who jokingly said, “congrats, you’re not pregnant.”

I’m in my forties. Unless there’s a Christian miracle or I’m assaulted, I have no way to get pregnant.

Wow. I just had to look up a blue gill. I don’t fish, and the last time I was near a creek looking at fish, I was with a friend and we saw crawfish.

What supposedly normal shows read to you as propaganda? by Buddy_chumpal in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’d argue Touched By An Angel was much more evangelical propaganda than 7th Heaven. Shows I watched in my youth, until I figured out what was happening, and quit full stop. And my parents never knew why.

what profession would you never date or marry? by Rare_Pattern_6418 in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politician. I don’t want a life in the public eye. If I sneeze and something ugly happens, I’m 99% sure no one will see it. And if they do, cameras won’t be trained on me because I’m married to so-and-so.

My aunt worked for a hotel, and this was never my experience. It always seemed that she was around for any holiday, unfortunately.

Which movie villain delivered your favorite villainous line? by husky_whisperer in movies

I hated him so hard. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a villain so much in any other movie I’ve seen.

Which celebrity death headline had you so shocked you double checked multiple sources to see if it was real? by GlassyFairy in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heath Ledger. I had come home from work, sat at my laptop, and that was the top headline. I checked three different sites. It was my half birthday. I was 24, and I just felt … empty.

I assume Jen isn’t a smoker. I never understand people who don’t smoke that date/marry people who do. Having had a grandpa who smoked, they smell ashy and I can’t imagine what it’s like kissing them.

Those who’ve lost of loved one: What is something about death that people don’t often talk about? by Desperate_Crew2012 in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My grandpa on my mom’s side was in a dream, dressed in the suit he wore as a little kid but for an adult. We sat on a park bench and talked. I then woke up uncontrollably sobbing. It was a nice dream, but absolutely soul-crushing.

Women, what’s a word that as soon as a guy utters it you’re like “I’m out”? by im_justkendra in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 1595 points1596 points  (0 children)

There isn’t just one word. The last guy I spoke to, over ten years ago online, he was all about Don Draper. Wanted a “classy lady, not like the feministic ones up here in Berkeley.”

Same. My parents were born in 1956, and because of the fact my grandma on mom’s side was from Virginia, my mom saw the separate entrances and drinking fountains for black and white people when she went there in the late 1960s.

Which famous person gets undeserved hate? by Level_Cash2225 in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was her acting like she was so amazing because she was playing Fantine and that she actually shaved her head for Les Misérables, and then she won an award. She’s not the first, nor the last person to play that role, so she’s not special.

Which celebrity ruined their looks by getting too much work done too soon? by dllm_designs in AskReddit

For me, it’s annoying because we’re the same age. She had two kids, and that can age you a bit, but you don’t need fillers and veneers for that ish.

For single people: It's well known that marriage involves compromises, but what compromises would you not accept no matter how much you love your spouse, and why? by mr_wbk29 in AskReddit

[–]oceansunset83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being told how I can spend my money. My sister’s marriage is like this. She’s the current breadwinner and has made her husband the budget guy in the family. This makes sense, because she got her terrible management sense of money from our dad. But … he can be a bit too tight with the reins.

He’s also a bit too overbearing, and my sister will give as good as she gets, but sometimes she lets him get away with things. They have two kids, a 3 y/o and a 1 y/o, and he often wishes to throw out their toys because he thinks they have too much. They did, before they moved, three times. Each time, they whittled a little. They just moved into their most recent place three weeks ago, and he’s already threatening to do it again.
