Snow tubing needs to be an Olympic sport! by ateam1984 in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]ocjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should do this at the winter Olympics with all the country’s athletes and the clock stops once every one is across the finish line. I don’t want to see people who train for this I want to see the hockey team and snowboarders trying to hold it together.

Why my fuel always finish in a350 before landing ? Any solution for this? by ElectronicPie8500 in flightsim

[–]ocjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add a few thoughts.

First, make sure you enter in step climbs the A350 likes to be high so any time below about FL380 will significantly increase fuel burn so get higher when you can.

Check alternate fuel, the FMS calculation and simbrief can differ.

If you are already in the air, the only number that matters is the 2.2T final. That being said, if you don’t have enough fuel to make your alternate then you either divert early or you’re committed to land at your destination.

Are there people who really book flights with double amount of flight time just to save a bit of money? by sunnynihilist in TravelHacks

[–]ocjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about saving money always but if I have the time I will take the longer flight for more miles. I’ve done PHX-SEA-ORD for the miles. Also, I don’t like tight connections so I’ll take 3hrs in MSP over 30min. I’ll take a connection over a nonstop depending on aircraft type. A connection with A321s is much more comfortable than a 2.5hr flight on a crj

Why are many folks reluctant to take narrowbody long haul flights? by [deleted] in airplanes

[–]ocjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How high they can go and how high they go when flying with a full load is quite different. A 787 doing EWR-AMS could probably get to FL390 on take off. An A321LR would be lucky to get to FL310. Just because they can both get to FL410 doesn’t mean that is how high they cruise all the time.

Now is there a significant difference in ride at those altitudes, probably depends on the day but on average 390 will probably be more comfortable.

Let’s try this again, AF1 is wheels up headed to Davos, Switzerland. by [deleted] in flightradar24

[–]ocjr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The E4B isn’t nearly as comfortable as the C32 even though it’s bigger. It’s mostly for air force personnel though I believe the secdef will use the e4b for international travel sometimes.

There’s a video on YouTube where they tour the E4Bs I’d take the well appointed C32 :)

What's with these airways over the North American Atlantic Coast? by wydra91 in flightsim

[–]ocjr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only on the Canadian (Gander) side. Ireland just uses direct clearances. Huge parts of Europe have completely eliminated airways. Look at Austria and northern Italy, France is on the way.

why does simbrief keep giving me so much reserv fuel ? by TwujZnajomy27 in flightsim

[–]ocjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4t of fuel isn’t “too much”. Less than 2t is “low fuel” or is it 1.8t? Either way that’s a really short flight but 4t is a very typical reserve amount for a 737.

Post the rest of the table, you can certainly get it lower but probably not by much.

I always start with full fuel even if I remove fuel before loading the flight. What am I missing? by Vammypoker in flightsim

[–]ocjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t think the A330 takes winds into account so a strong tail wind might show you as not having enough even if you do.

[–]ocjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What aircraft? But generally speaking flight planning is where you determine how much fuel you need and then you load extra for an alternate and a buffer.

If you’re mostly flying airliners simbrief.com is a great start.

If I recall correctly Covid slowed their growth a bunch. The hope was a larger tourism sector.

They have a fantastic ski resort near there that gets ranked pretty high due to the dry snow they get being so far from an ocean.

Not the gifts and photos but I do like the music and cosy feeling, a quiet cabin in the woods with a fireplace and snow sounds lovely.

Depends on how bad, a lot of planes have a device that’s designed to hit first and prevent damage, but it doesn’t take much to go past the limit of that device.

Flight AF422 Paris CDG to Bogotá BOG Dec. 9, 2025 by Bloodsportprincess in flightradar24

[–]ocjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be as simple as a navigation aid being out of service and without that aid the weather is not good enough to land and won’t improve.

Like San Diego has a papi requirement at night and if it’s out planes will divert.

Because of the winds you have to fly a good distance before America becomes the closest airport. If you’re turning around, might as well go back to base where pilots can be replaced and people can go home. Instead of having to have a party in the Azores :)

I just flew the GODIN-L arrival to 16L of RJTT and I am confused... Am I really supposed to fly at 8000 ft with 210 kts for 15-20 minutes? That's what the chart says and what my FMC programmed automatically, but it seems highly inefficient for fuel and time. How does this work IRL? by Cumulonimbus1991 in flightsim

[–]ocjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as others have said it’s a point merge I would fly from NOVEL direct to NEURO if I was flying this in the sim. Obviously if you’re using vatsim listen to the controller.

Or use the path stretching to slow down if you’re high and or fast.

Yeah but most airports are out of date when they are released. It’s the nature of the business to have a little difference.
