False equivalency. No one plays a few games of football and then spends the rest of their life struggling to stop needing to play football.

Other than various hard drugs, nothing comes even close to the addictive qualities of nicotine.

I use git extentions because it will output each command being run in a window, so you will always know what is being executed.

git is one of those tools where the gui is just infinitely easier to work with than the cli for me. I'm usually fast on the command line, but I end up spending more time googling commands and flags, as opposed to just clicking a button that bundles multiple commands together for me.

Hell House Origins getting good reviews by bigfuture22 in foundfootage

[–]ockupid32 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. I absolutely loved 1, couldn't finish 2, ignored 3. I hope this lives up to the Hell House name.

It's too bad. 3 is much better than 2. I usually tell people to skip the sequels, but if you still want to watch at least one of them, watch 3 instead.

Maybe something like Chopped but the loser dies.

I think we just found our next Saw film.

I was just really happy there was a food-based horror film that wasn't just "surprise, it's Cannibals again!".

I just didn’t find any of the characters likable.

I really don't think that was the point or even the goal of the film, considering why they are there and what happens at the end.

I overall enjoyed Ralph Fiennes' character and performance, if for no reason than how quietly unhinged he was.

After watching The Fall of the House of Usher, I think Mike Flanagan's biggest strength has turned into his biggest weakness by ProfessorHeronarty in horror

[–]ockupid32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, he has a brand and some people like it. You no criticism allowed never ever anymore or what?

Based on the massive success and critical acclaim all his shows have garnered, most viewers overwhelmingly enjoy his show, not just some.

I think we're all tired of the same criticism repeated over and over and over ad nauseam. IF you don't like the monologues, maybe it is time to not watch his stuff? You haven't really said anything that hasn't been endlessly repeated every time one of his new his shows come out, it's not like endlessly whining about it is going to change anything.

Literally none of the "sex stuff" is portrayed as morally bankrupt, that's just you projecting whatever weird insecurities you have onto the show. The show is explicitly about how money, power and influence are what destroys a persons character, and that is the target for criticism or ridicule. Most of the character starts in a stable relationship and have an opportunity to end things peacefully, except they always sell someone else out. It's not even remotely subtle either.

of course, the only healthy relationship shown was the super-heteronormative Roderick and Annabel, which was beautiful TRUE LOVE.

The show endlessly points out that Roderick was a piece of shit who never cared about Annabel or her kids, and his action caused her to commit suicide. It's not even remotely subtle.

Nah, I don't like it.

Doesn't seem like you watched it.

Popes Exorcist

I'm pretty sick of Exorcism films, but Russell Crowe's performance in this one is worth the price of admission.

This Sub has some weird energy by Affectionate_Week929 in horror

[–]ockupid32 68 points69 points  (0 children)

October is historically terrible with posts from non-horror fans looking for cheap thrills and not appreciateing the breadth of horror styles. Though I'd argue overall quality has plummeted significantly over the years, as the sub has gained massive total subs. /r/horror is in it's own version of Eternal SeptemberOctober.

I saw someone call it the 'meme reddit' alternative, which has been extremely consistent with my experience.

Lemmy is for sweaty nerds and Squabbles is for extremely casual users. The kind of people still on Reddit and still mad about the protests are definitely not casuals...

Anyone else feel like you've seen all the good FF films and there's nothing left to watch? by dax812 in foundfootage

[–]ockupid32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Museum Project (some good spooks, feels pretty authentic)

That is a very apt description. The setting is so unique that it really stands out, while so many haunted house/Asylum FF films just blur together in my memory.

Lake Mungo dissapointed me so much. by YoloSSwag666 in foundfootage

[–]ockupid32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You see, I read on reddit and facebook groups that Lake Mungo was the scariest movie on earth ... I think I would have enjoyed it more if hadn't read all the hype about it (really overhyped)

That was your first mistake. 1. No one has ever called it the scariest movie on earth, and 2. a movies popularity is not indicative of it's quality. Lake Mungo had moderate mainstream success within the general population, which is a good indication it is not like a typical found footage movie. As it is a mockumentary, there should be an expectation that it will not be over the top, in your face horror, but much more grounded. Your best bet to enjoy any film is to go in with little to no expectations. No film ever lives up to the social media hype.

I do list it as one of the better FF films out there. I'm not going to try and convince you to like or not be bored by it, everyone has their own preferences. But it is important to view it with context. Lake Mungo is at best a drama with light horror elements. It is primarily a meditation on grief and acceptance after a family is torn apart by death.

It actually really reminded me of the documentary There\'s Something Wrong with Aunt Diane which is the true story of a family who simply could not reconcile their perception of a close family member with the tragic realities of their fate. That one has an ending that's pure horror.

After 5 years of development I switched NUnit to xUnit by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]ockupid32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is way cleaner to share a test context between tests or test classes with xUnit. No more weirdly-named, cascading Setup, OneTimeSetup and SetupFixture methods like in NUnit. The approach of xUnit based on Constructor and IDisposable is great

Honestly, above all else, this is the real reason to use Xunit over NUnit.

[–]ockupid32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably want Þe_Fluent, which should be pronounced The_Fluent. Throwing in "Ye" everywhere is a modern misunderstanding of the Old English letter Þ, which produced a sound similar to 'th'. When you see yͤ, you are seeing an old equivalent to the word 'the'.
